Much anxiety fueled by misinformation surrounds the idea of armed civilians guarding schools but the fact of the matter is that eventually we will be forced to adopt some version of the "Israeli method", like it or not. It is not a simple matter of handing a weapon to just anybody to assume guard duty but a tightly regulated process. In TX, it is called Level III law enforcement certification. I have taken and passed it twice; once in correctional officers' academy and as a job requirement for armored car driver. Not everyone gets certified.

When you have only seconds to react first responders are just minutes away.
