@Kate: To those not touched and aided by the Spirit, the Bible is simply a bunch of nonsensical words that have little-to-no meaning in our “modern” society (which just happens to have the same hubris as such societies as Sodom and ancient Egypt). The words will mean nothing to them.

That’s not to say they shouldn’t read it, it’s just that most hearts are hardened, like Pharoah’s heart, against God.

That sharp instrument is probably the Sword of Truth..which is the Word of God. That said, it will be welded by no other than Jesus, when he comes for that final battle to deal with the elements of evil in the world (which in today’s culture we can’t even mention….the devil himself).

We should not fear this at all if we believe, this is the turning away. This is the darkening of hearts that is to come. God himself will give them a powerful illusion and they who do not believe will be under it’s seal. It’s a scary vision for those lost and who do not believe.

Read Revelation. Read your Bible…those who do not believe and scoff at this are warned.

Saul Alinsky has codified and popularized tactics which change political debate into a leveraging of power. Noam Chomsky’s original claim to fame is as a superstar linguist and his rhetoric shapes many arguments.

All of the above and more have woven a Gordian Knot which will kill America as we know it unless we can find the sword sharp enough to cut it in a single blow. We cannot unravel or untie it, we must find a way to destroy it wholesale. And quickly, because it may already be too late.

I stumbled over an article quite a while ago (and I’ll be dogged if I can remember where I read it) that said (I’m paraphrasing here, of course) that we’ve ‘softened’ our language to the point where it’s halfway to meaningless.

The writer included words like ‘abortion’, ‘fornication’, ‘bastard’, and others (most of them were taken from the Bible, believe it or not), and if memory serves, his point was that ‘harsh’ words like that had more of an effect against the actions they labeled than the ‘soft’ language we use now. Your point about ‘choice’ follows along with that concept.

Turn language into clay and you can make anything you want of it.
