Former Gov. Sanford to face runoff for #SC1 GOP nomination

Posted by: ST on March 19, 2013 at 10:23 pm

He had multiple opponents in the primary, but because he didn’t make it to 50%, Sanford will face a runoff next month:

RT @Politics1com: SC CD-1: Ex-Gov Mark Sanford finished first in 16-way GOP primary with 37%; to face ex-Charleston Co Councilman Curtis Bostic in 4/2 runoff.

The one who wins the GOP runoff will go on to face Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, sister of Stephen Colbert. She won the Democrat primary with 96% (virtually no opposition). That said, Senator Tim Scott’s former district is heavily GOP, so whoever wins the runoff is likely to win that seat in the fall.

As to why Sanford got so many votes after the affair scandal which nearly cost him the Governor’s chair, your guess is as good as mine. Maybe his “redemption” campaign, ran in a state that is deeply religious, won people over.

Ultimately, we’ll find out next month if it worked or not. Stay tuned…

I haven’t been following this race closely, but this is disappointing to me. I would have thought South Carolinians were smarter than to let Sanford get a second chance to betray their trust.

The schizophrenic Lindsey Graham notwithstanding, South Carolina Republicans have of late elected some intelligent, articulate, well-qualified conservative candidates (Tim Scott, Nikki Haley, the AWESOME Trey Gowdy) while Dems keep returning the bombastic race-baiting James Clyburn and nominated the legendary dullard Alvin Greene.

Remember how Clyburn refused to accept that Dems had really nominated Greene, and intimated that somehow Republican dirty tricks were responsible (“elephant dung”)?

  2. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) is also doing his “Comeback Kid” routine, living proof that every jackass thinks they are fit to stand with the king’s horses.

Let’s look at the entire situation:
    1) Sanford is a conniving, lying adulterer.
    2) Sanford has done a “repentant sinner” routine.
    3) South Carolina is a “deeply religious” state.
    4) Sanford is a politician.

My vote goes for #1 & #4. Even if he went the “sackcloth and ashes” routine, I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him with a broken arm. He’s already proven he’s not trustworthy, now he wants to spit in the eye of every Carolinian and call them fools, too.

It’s because of lying sacks of cow crap like him and Grahamnesty that it’s going to take somewhere in the neighborhood of forever for the Republicans to regain Congress and the WH because they just can’t be trusted.

I’d ask rhetorically why people would ever vote for him, but they voted for Obhammed, didn’t they? Not much difference since a liar is a liar is a liar…

Other than #1 and #4 he’s ok, isn’t he? LOL.
