This is jaw-dropping. They can’t convict George Zimmerman in open court, their own FBI finds no evidence of racial animosity on Zimmerman’s part, so now they’re reduced to begging people to send them tips on bad things Zimmerman may have done?

The U.S. Department of Justice on Monday afternoon appealed to civil rights groups and community leaders, nationally and in Sanford, for help investigating whether a federal criminal case might be brought against George Zimmerman for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, one advocate said.

The DOJ has also set up a public email address to take in tips on its civil rights investigation.

Barbara Arnwine, president and executive director the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law – who earlier in the day joined calls for federal civil rights charges against Zimmerman, said that later in the afternoon, she joined a U.S. Department of Justice conference call to discuss the prospects.

“They were calling on us to actively refer anyone who had any information,” that might build a case against Zimmerman for either a civil rights violation or a hate crime, Arnwine said. “They said they would very aggressively investigate this case.”

Arnwine said the call was convened at about 3:30 p.m. by Tom Perez, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice, and included representatives from the FBI, and several federal prosecutors, she said. DOJ officials also said they would open a public email address so people could send in tips on the case.

That email address, which is now in operation, is Sanford.florida@usdoj.gov.

These guys cannot be serious. In all likelihood, this is merely an attempt by DOJ to try to mollify the outraged masses stirred up by the race baiters in order to restore calm. If that is the case, they are certainly being a little too elaborate with their ruse.

Essentially, the administration–0bama & Holder–have already declared open season on Zimmerman. By giving the New Black Panthers a pass on voter intimidation… Holder is giving his okay for them to proceed to wield their own justice, as they see fit. Tragedies, such as this… provide an opportunity for people to display their own racism. Where was the outrage and justice for Nicole Brown Simpson? But now.. even when there is not a shred of evidence to prove Zimmerman a racist, they are going to label him Racist anyway? What about double jeopardy? You are acquitted so the DOJ goes after you? This administration has been selecting the laws they wish to enforce and the ones they wish to ignore, from the onset. We don’t have a Dept. of Justice; we have a Dept. of PayBack.

Yet in this same state, Florida, a black woman was just convicted of unlawfully discharging a firearm, shooting to warn her estranged husband (who was under a court restraint) to stay away from her. She got something like a gazillion years for defending herself.

Where’s Zero’s and Mr. My People’s outrage for this? Where are Al and Jesse?

I guess that doesn’t stir the racial pot, and there’s no money in defending her.

Carlos, the case you cite is NOT a self defense case. The woman had gone to the home of her ex husband to retrieve clothes, as she no longer lived there. There was an argument about her being there(she had a restraining order against the ex, but then voluntarily entered their home AGAINST court orders). She went out of the house into the garage where she had parked her car and retrieved a gun, then voluntarily went back into the house and fired a shot at her ex while his two children were sitting nearby. She struck a wall instead of the husband.
She was offered a different plea(max.sentence three years) turned it down, went to trial and was convicted of multiple accounts of aggravated assault with a weapon. Florida has mandatory sentencing laws, hence the 20 year sentence.

Well apparently American citizens no longer have the right to a Constitutional court trial with binding results everyone should respect. Instead, under the Obama administration, breaches of law are to be tried and sentenced by mob rule.

Be careful what you wish for “Revenge for Trayvon” proponents, you may end up on the receiving end of one of these “mob rule judgments” yourselves one day!

Why does the DOJ pursue this angle when its own FBI has interviewed 40 witnesses in search of bias on Zimmerman’s part and found nothing while, at the same time, 41 different groups have active civil suits filed over the IRS’s misconduct and not a single one has been contacted?
