GAO to begin investigation into how Planned Parenthood spends taxpayer money

WASHINGTON – The non-partisan Government Accountability Office confirmed Thursday it is launching an investigation into how the country’s largest abortion provider spent millions of taxpayer dollars.

Planned Parenthood received more than a half billion dollars in federal funding last year. The GAO’s investigation is in response to a request made by more than 50 members of Congress in February who asked for a detailed report on how money is being used by Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers across the country.

Specifically, lawmakers want to know what procedures and services they provided and the number of people who were served and how much it cost.

The GAO’s investigation comes on the heels of a settlement involving a Texas affiliate of the organization, which paid $4.3 million in July to settle allegations of fraud in billing to a health program for the poor. The settlement was $3 million more than what had been announced earlier by the Texas Attorney General.

However, when finalizing the settlement, which included state and federal recovery money, Planned Parenthood strongly refuted claims it has frequently over-billed the system.

Of course they did. They wouldn’t want anyone to find out what a bunch of deceitful, hypocritical fraudsters Planned Parenthood are, right?

Actually it would be good news if PP is over-billing. That would mean they’re murdering fewer babies than they could be doing.

I agree, ST, this investigation is a very good thing. About time, really.

Hats off to the intrepid Lila Rose, whose investigative work has helped lead us to this point.

Sefton is right that the Dems will do everything they can to stonewall the investigation. They will pull out their IRS handbook which says

1) Stonewall and stop any investigation
2) Claim there is not enough evidence for an investigation
3) Repeat 1 and 2 as long as necessary

As long as we don’t give up though the truth will come out. We have to play this smart and hard.

Long overdue! The idea that the American taxpayers should fund some 4 million abortions a year which is obviously being used as birth control. Fraud and abuse runs rampant. The whole agency is a misnomer–and should not be getting tax dollars at all! There is nothing planned about this place; you don’t go there if you had planned anything! And there is no counseling on parenthood. It’s an abortion clinic and should be called one–but Liberals like to alter the names of things.. to make them sound better. Like Lawyers, Inc. and Tides.

The biggest problem with Planned Parenthood is that there are too many hoods and not enough parents.
