Californians discover that -gasp!- Obama lied about their insurance costs

The San Jose Mercury News ran an article a couple of days ago about “winners and losers” under Obamacare in the Bay Area, including individual buyers of health insurance who were shocked when faced with economic reality: when the government mandates higher costs on businesses, they will then pass those costs along to consumers.

And as some Obamacare supporters found, reality bites — their wallets:

But people with no pre-existing conditions like [Cindy] Vinson, a 60-year-old retired teacher, and [Tom] Waschura, a 52-year-old self-employed engineer, are making up the difference.

“I was laughing at Boehner — until the mail came today,”

Waschura said, referring to House Speaker John Boehner, who is leading the Republican charge to defund Obamacare.
“I really don’t like the Republican tactics, but at least now I can understand why they are so pissed about this. When you take $10,000 out of my family’s pocket each year, that’s otherwise disposable income or retirement savings that will not be going into our local economy.”

Both Vinson and Waschura have adjusted gross incomes greater than four times the federal poverty level — the cutoff for a tax credit. And while both said they anticipated their rates would go up, they didn’t realize they would rise so much.

“Of course, I want people to have health care,” Vinson said. “I just didn’t realize I would be the one who was going to pay for it personally.”

It must be nice to live in their imaginary world, where government can wave its magic wand and and create wonderful new entitlements that are always paid for by The Other Guy. But, in the world we all live in, when Waschura whines about what amounts to a seizure of ten grand of his disposable income to pay for other people’s insurance, I want to scream “THAT’S WHAT WE’VE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT, YOU MORON!” Obamacare is not about health care; it is a gigantic wealth transfer program, and the “transfer from” part includes the middle class. Everything Obama and his comrades on the Left do is about wealth redistribution.

Do read the rest of the article. In fairness, it points out “winners” under the ACA, too. What it doesn’t do is mention how those winners, such as those with previously existing conditions, “win” by relying on the government to force those younger and healthier to buy more (and more expensive) insurance than they really need. And you need several of those losers for each beneficiary.

Again, wealth transfer is the key.

Meanwhile, to those ACA-supporters now finding out just how badly shafted they are by this bill, give me some time. It will take me a while to generate any sympathy.

  1. As is the case with automobile insurance, people like those above are going to be “carrying” uninsured/underinsured coverage to make up the difference involved in providing an additional 30 million people coverage at a lower cost to themselves.

And those with pre-existing conditions will make up the high risk “pool” (think multiple violations and/or at-fault accidents). Some of that hidden premium will be a cost surreptitiously tacked on as “Mexico coverage”, if you get my drift.

LOL – love the “suckers” picture!

    Progressives, meet reality. Reality, progressives.

Because like all liberals, she expected FREE ICE CREAM with someone else footing the bill.

Liberals are always shocked when reality smacks them between the eyes.

  5. Joy says:

Obamacare is not just redistributing wealth. It is also redistributing healthcare to the 30 previously uninsured Americans while simultaneously creating 30 million newly uninsured Americans. The sad thing is that middle-class people will be the hardest hit.

  6. Sum Gai says:

Well, since the Liberals and Democrats are so childish, I am going to talk to them in their language:

“Nana nana boo boo, we Conservatives told you…”
Next, if you don’t take our word for it, get off of your lazy bums and do the research yourself… “I TRIPLE dog dare you.”

    Take your blinders off… PLEASE!!!!

These are the same folks who not only voted for our Thug-in-Chief, but also voted for Guvner Moonbeam. And, except for tactics used, aim for exactly the same end: punish the producers, reward the societal leeches, and make sure your cronies are well-taken care of.

  8. Steve Skubinna says:

You appear bitter, Carlos. You obviously don’t understand democracy, which is where if 51% of the electorate chooses to dispossess the other 49% then it’s fully legitimate and in accordance with The Will Of The People.

Which is why the Founders organized a representational democracy, or republic, to protect minority rights. Which is also why progressives over the past century have strained mightily to dilute and dismantle that republic and turn us over to mob rule.

Because, democracy! Under, of course, the enlightened guidance of a specially self selected elite. So shut up and fork over the money, citizen! It’s for your own good.

I’d be safe and warm if I was in L.A. California dreamin'”

Wonder how many are now California dreamin’?

My work (driving a big rig) takes me to CA weekly, and I can guarantee you it’s not just the libs who are a few bubbles off plumb.

I see the disingenuous signs of the farmers decrying the lack of water (already paid for) and screaming through signs that that RAISES THE COST OF FOOD FOR EVERYONE!!!!!

Now, if they were simply complaining that the government stole their money and they want it back, fine, but what screams we would hear if the guvmint suddenly dropped the ag price supports that’ve been happily paid to farmers for the better part of a century now (compliments of Comrade Roosevelt) for the farmers’ support in each next election? If they don’t know those “price supports” haven’t cost we, the consumers, trillions of dollars over the span of their existence, then the farmers need to go back and take some basic econ classes.

Of course, Californicators will never connect the dots between the state of their economy and the fact that they keep electing Democraps to “redistribute” the peoples’ wealth (keeping, of course, just a tiny portion for themselves – all “legally,” of course, because they just happen to make those rules, too).

And “bitter,” Steve? No, just saddened by how incredibly stupid the average human animal in this country has become under the tutelage of the guvmint indoctrination system. The average voter (part of the “51%” you mentioned), if aware of anything at all outside his/her own little bubble world, is only aware of what the LSM feeds them compliments of the guvmint or, if the guvmint is at the time being run by (gasp!!) Republicans, by intellectuals feeding the LSM the reasons why the world is on the verge of collapse.

It took decades of patience for the statists to take over virtually every social institution in this country, and I don’t personally believe the right has the same patience, nor can they see the benefits of having that patience over the decades it would take to retake this country.

But I still love this country. It’s always been my home. Just saddened by those who would give it away, unearned, to those who don’t deserve it.

The end of what was is here, and we feel it in California every day. I stopped donating because I give all my donation dollars to the government. I believe redistribution IS key to the democrats mentality (although some don’t realize it yet), which, may I remind you, also sets us up for an all powerful ruler. I’m ready to die for my democracy…..just saying.

  12. @Sum Gai–My sentiments exactly regarding those big stinky poo-poo heads.

  13. Steph says:

Both hubby and I moved to the Golden State in the mid-60’s from the mid-West. What sickens us both is how the statists have just made the state worse and worse. It was bad enough then we got Gov. Moonbeam (twice!), Arnie (who is no Republican), Gray Davis, etc. At one time, the educational system in CA was the best in the nation but it is horrible now. If it happens in CA schools, you can bet it will eventually happen everywhere. (For example, co-ed bathrooms, locker rooms for those students who “feel” they are not the gender they were both with – I kid you not) We conservatives have absolutely no voice in the state. What good does it do to write to our senators? None. Those two do not listen to us. Same thing with our Representative (Jerry McNerney) who is another democrap. Very frustrating. What I don’t get is that our insurance premium for 2014 didn’t skyrocket and I gotta wonder why. Our insurance is through hubby’s employment (retirement). Don’t get me wrong here – we do PAY for it but I don’t understand why the premium didn’t go up very much. Perhaps to lull us into a false sense of security? God, I hope not. My son and his wife (son is self-employed) found a plan that is less than what they are paying now plus lower deductible and lower co-pay. Strange.
