Obama: #HarryReidsShutdown “encouraged our enemies”, you unpatriotic GOP jerks

Days after he urged Republicans and Democrats to come together in the spirit of bipartisanship to end the partial shutdown, and a hours after they reluctantly did so, here’s how the President of the United States –Β our celebrity President – promoted unity: by insinuating those in DC who drew a line in the sand on Obamacare and our debt ceiling were being unpatriotic (bolded emphasis added by me):

President Barack Obama launched a ferocious political attack on hardline Tea Party Republicans yesterday, accusing them of betraying the ideals ofΒ AmericaΒ by forcing a 16-day government shutdown that cost the economy at least $24 billion (Β£15 billion).

Hours after signing the legislation that ended Washington’s latest budget stand-off, Mr Obama said Republicans who had β€œpushed for the shutdown” had succeeded only in creating a spectacle of poor governance that had tarnished America’s credibility in the world.

β€œIt’s encouraged our enemies, it’s emboldened our competitors, and it’s depressed our friends, who look to us for steady leadership,” he said.

Mr Obama said the crisis had caused β€œcompletely unnecessary” damage to the economy, claiming it had slowed growth, seen households cut back on their spending and worsened the deficit.

β€œLet’s be clear. There are no winners here,” he said. β€œThe American people are completely fed up with Washington.”

Speaking a day after Democrat leaders in the senate had called for an end to β€œpointing fingers and blame”, Mr Obama pointed the finger squarely at Tea Party Republicans who had refused to raise the debt ceiling if he did not roll back parts of his signature health care reforms. β€œYou don’t like a particular policy or a particular president? Then argue for your position. Go out there and win an election,” he scolded. β€œPush to change it. But don’t break it.

β€œDon’t break what our predecessors spent over two centuries building. That’s not being faithful to what this country’s about.”

Has this “constitutional scholar” ever actually read the Constitution, opened a law or Β history book – especially when it comes to the role of Β the political opposition and the options they have to oppose legislation with which they disagree? Remember: then-Senator-Obama in 2006 called raising the debt ceiling a “failure of leadership” – AND he voted against raising it. Β Had he and his colleagues like Senator Harry Reid been successful at the time, would that have been “encouraging our enemies”?

Years later, both of them are still playing politics while pretending to be above it all. Β What petulant jerks, with self-serving attitudes unbefitting of the respective offices they hold. Β Neither of them are interested in “moving on” from “shutdown politics.” This isn’t simply about winning a legislative battle. this is about destroying the political opposition, the goal of ObamaCo. from day one of his first term. Β Reasonable people on “our side” could and can disagree as to whether the strategy the GOP took this time around to oppose Obamacare and raising the debt ceiling was the right one or not, but moving forward the time for the GOP to unify in a big way to SMARTLY hold the line against this President for the next three years couldn’t be more urgent. Β He’s a lame duck. He’s going to try and do whatever we wants. And the politicos in DC who oppose him need to figure out a way to fight back in a way that satisfies Average Joe supporters and doesn’t critically damage us in the polls – especially come 2016.

President Obama and Senator Reid
National disgrace.
