A Christmas lump of coal for the gun-grabbers

“Crime stopper”

It seems concealed-carry cuts down on gun crime:

The purpose of the present study is to determine the effects of state-level assault weapons bans and concealed weapons laws on state-level murder rates. Using data for the period 1980 to 2009 and controlling for state and year fixed effects, the results of the present study suggest that states with restrictions on the carrying of concealed weapons had higher gun-related murder rates than other states. It was also found that assault weapons bans did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level. These results suggest that restrictive concealed weapons laws may cause an increase in gun-related murders at the state level. The results of this study are consistent with some prior research in this area, most notably Lott and Mustard (1997).

It’s logical: not only would potential victims be able to defend themselves, but the uncertainty of whether said potential victim (or anyone in the area) is carrying a weapon would tend to make a criminal less likely to strike. This woman might have been able to save herself. There’s a reason why the Founders protected the right to self-defense in the Bill of Rights.

Of course, logic, reasonableness, and constitutionalism will continue to be ignored by the Feinsteins, Bloombergs, Schumers, Morgans, and other gun-grabbers in the world.

  1. It is better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it.

Just a nit-picky point, but every study on this subject says the same thing: “…may cause …”

Such laws don’t cause anything. They may or may not allow certain results, but the laws don’t do anything in and of themselves.

And just to clarify, I believe that anyone who thinks restrictive gun laws protect people (yeah, Chucky and Nazi and Barry, I’m talking about you) are either willful idiots or (more likely) willful liars trying to impose a police state on what used to be a free people.

In case anyone is unclear on the concept, the Second Amendment was not written about deer hunting or the various shooting sports. It is addressing tyranny. (See Carlos’ post above.)

If it wasn’t for the Second Amendment there would not be any others.

Gun control works. Just ask the experts; Nazi Germany, North Korea, China, etc.
