#Obamacare Dems: If you won’t listen to us, listen to your mom

Obamacare
Obamacare – bad for your health, your wallet, your …

The Politico reports on another approach [1] by the Obama administration to try and get young people to sign up for Obamacare:

Listen to Mom.

That’s the message in the latest Obamacare outreach ad announced by the White House Wednesday. It targets mothers of “young invincibles” and urges them to get their young adult children to sign up before the 2014 open enrollment season ends at the end of March.

The ad will air nationally on Lifetime, ABC Family, Hallmark, Country Music, Channel, TV Land and Oxygen through March 31, the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services said.

Advocates have been pushing the mom link for several months. Mothers make health care decisions in many families, and it’s part of the mom’s job to worry about all the things that might befall young people who think they are more or less immortal — or at least unlikely to need an emergency appendectomy.

The health exchanges need far more healthy young people enrolled to spread the risk in the new health insurance markets and prevent premiums from skyrocketing. According to the sign-up data released so far, only about 1 in 4 people getting covered is in the valued 18-34 age bracket.

President Barack Obama himself pitched America’s mothers on his health law during his State of the Union last week.

“Moms, get on your kids to sign up. Kids, call your mom and walk her through the application. It will give her some peace of mind — plus, she’ll appreciate hearing from you,” he said.

Dunno about y’all, but if I got a call from my mom trying to get me to enroll in Obamacare, I’d have to gently but firmly explain the particulars about why I would not – and about why she shouldn’t trust one thing this administration says about anything, let alone health insurance decisions.

This is another sign of desperation for Team Obama. They aren’t seeing the surge in enrollment from young people that they thought they would, so now they’re playing the mom card. It will likely be a failure, like so many other aspects of this disastrous law.

Stay tuned.
