"Iranian Navy in action"

“Iranian Navy in action”

Oh, how cute! The Iranian Navy is trying to show the Great Satan (1) that it’s all grown up, now!

A senior Iranian naval commander says his country has sent several warships to the Atlantic Ocean, close to U.S. maritime borders for the first time.

The commander of Iran’s Northern Navy Fleet, Admiral Afshin Rezayee Haddad, is quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying Saturday that the vessels have already begun the journey to the Atlantic Ocean via waters near South Africa.

The “task force” sending us this message consists of a destroyer and a helicopter carrier.

I’m sure U.S. Fleet Forces Command will be sure to be duly impressed, once they’re done laughing and pointing.

Seriously, Iran says this is in response to us for stationing the 5th Fleet in and near the Persian Gulf. Hey, Afshin! Buddy! It’s called “freedom of the seas,” and we take it very seriously. If you weren’t periodically threatening to close a lifeline for much of the world’s oil, we wouldn’t have to stand ready to knock some much-needed sense into you.

Schmucks.

  1. This is reminiscent of how the ancient Greeks, under the leadership of Themistocles, sailed against the Persians at Salamis. Many of the Persians who perished had fallen into the sea and were unable to swim.

One of the first orders of business in US Navy boot camp is learning basic survival swimming, called “earning your water wings”. Those who have difficulty are sent back for remedial sessions.

  2. Tango says:

Well, lessee. Barry has unfrozen billions of dollars and sent them off to Tehran. This deployment of Iranian warships towards US shores is just Khameini’s way of doin’ the Snoopy Dance. He’s sending a message. To some, this might even seem like “piling on.”

No worries. If the Iranian warships happen to cross our red line, Barry will quickly deploy Kerry to warn them.

  3. Sefton says:

I’d laugh if some Somali pirates raided them.

  4. Carlos says:

Heck, Sefton, they probably fund the pirates during hard times! I know they’re behind most of the unrest that takes place in the region.

And, as Tango noted, if they do happen to be gutsy enough to fire a shot or two at our vessels, Zero would undoubtedly dispatch Frenchy poste-haste to give them the sternest of warnings. With a “pretty please with sugar” on it to boot.

  5. Sefton says:

Carlos – I wouldn’t put it past Zero to have invited them.
    Valerie Jarrett probably insisted.

  6. denis says:

    looks like target practice time!

  7. Xavier says:

Can’t wait to hear how this is the Tea Party’s fault. Or Fox. Or Rush. Or Christie.

  8. Drew the Infidel says:

@Xavier–Or Bush. Of that Obhammud never tires.

  9. Carlos says:

Yeah, if he’s forced to fire back, he’ll probably try to convince the goobers who would still vote for him (a.k.a., “true believers”) that he was only shooting at the same ship GW stood on with the sign “Mission Accomplished” on it.

‘Course, convincing those goobers might be somewhat difficult even for him, since the Iranians don’t have much more than what we left coast folk consider oversized dingies.

  10. Dave Dooling says:

The vessels are the Sabalan, a frigate comparable to one of our older destroyer escorts, and the Kharq, a supply ship needed to give the frigate legs and carrying three ASW helicopters. This “fleet” likely has a shadow already, a Los Angeles-class attack sub that may already have periscope pictures of the captain having coffee on the bridge. They are free to sail up and down the U.S. coast so long as they stay outside the 12-mile limit and do not molest shipping. Then things get interesting.

  11. Dave Dooling says:

    The Washington Beacon quotes

“The Americans can sense by all means how their warships will be sunk with 5,000 crews and forces in combat against Iran and how they should find its hulk in the depths of the sea,” Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi, the commander of the elite Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy, was quoted as saying Sunday in the regional press.

That is a direct threat on aircraft carriers, the only warships with a crew that size.

Never mind the fact that the ship they are deploying, the Sabalan, was spared being sunk after being crippled by U.S. naval aircraft at the end of Operation Praying Mantis in 1988.

  12. BBHunter says:

    - The NAVSEC should make an offer to Koemeni-dork to give their pitiful “navy” a tow home when they break down and are left stranded.

  13. mhaney says:

You guys all sound like a bunch of fools who said nothing will ever happen to this country again like Pearl Harbor, well guess again 9/11 happened.

3 years ago the iranians said they would ‘test’ the american 12 mile limit and now they have. To make jokes about this is nuts!
Dont you think they could launch an EMP mega missile from one of those ships? I sure as hell do.

    wake up America!
