Minimum Wage: West Virginia Democrats exempt themselves

Weird, isn’t it? If having the state mandate higher and higher wages for everyone is such a good idea, why on Earth would WV House Democrats vote to exempt themselves from a law being imposed on everyone else?

Last week, the Democrat controlled House in West Virginia passed legislation raising the state’s minimum wage to $8.75 an hour, $1.50 higher than the federal minimum wage. The action is part of a nation-wide effort by Democrats to make a minimum wage increase central to their platform for the midterm elections. The increase didn’t effect all workers, though. Democrats exempted many of their own staff from the wage hike. Businesses may have to pay the higher wages, but the legislature will avoid many of the consequences.

Why, it’s almost as if West Virginia Democrats didn’t believe in private what they were preaching in public.

But we all know that can’t be.

Just following the United States Congress’ lead, that’s all.

And it doesn’t make two hoots and a holler’s difference whether it was a jackass donkey-controlled legislature or a jackass elephant-controlled legislature. At the federal level, neither party could scramble fast enough to exempt themselves from the onerous burdens they jackboot on us goobers.

If they didn’t exempt themselves, then the wages they paid to staffers would go up. Since they’re government workers, that means money out of your pocket to cover the added cost. And then you would complain about that.

You don’t see the disconnect there Erik? Yes fiscal conservatives are happy that this close to a fiscal collapse, some Dems can see that they cannot raise taxes to give their staffers a raise. However, that they will subject private business (because they have none) proves that they still don’t get it. All they perceive is that they will not get re-elected if they raise taxes right now. That is not the least disturbing to you?
