The Hill’s Briefing Room blog reports this morning that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will be holding a press conference today to tout the ‘greatness’ of the so-called “Affordable Care Act” on its fourth anniversary:

House Democratic leaders are doubling down on their bet that President Obama’s healthcare reform law will benefit them politically at the polls in November.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has scheduled a Thursday press conference β€” rare for a congressional recess week β€” to highlight the fourth anniversary of the enactment of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which Obama signed into law on March 23, 2010.

The move is just the latest signal that Pelosi and her caucus, who have hardly shied away from the ACA in the face of political attacks from the right, instead intend to embrace the law and highlight its benefits in hopes that voters will respond amiably.

“I think the Republicans are wasting their time using that as their electoral issue, and they will find that out,” Pelosi told reporters last week.

Republican leaders are more than willing to go along. They’ve been attacking ObamaCare as an example of big-government overreach that will limit healthcare access and increase costs β€” a message they’ve amplified since their special-election victory last week in Florida, where Democratic candidate Alex Sink’s support for the ACA became a central campaign issue.

Joining Pelosi at Thursday’s press conference will be Rep. Chris Van Hollen (Md.), senior Democrat on the House Budget Committee.

Much in the spirit of “we’ll have to pass it to find out what’s in it”, I guess Pelosi and other Congressional Democrats believe people must Β continue to elect Democrats so they can keep pointing out Β the “benefits” to Obamacare when it’s obvious to all but the seriously deluded that there aren’t any, not when millions have lost their plans, Β had their hours cut – and/or in some cases lost their jobs over Obamacare. Β Not to mention the Β business owners who now refuse to – or can’t – invest and expand because they can’t afford to or don’t want to take the risk, again, thanks to Obamacare.

The doubling down may be continuing, but that doesn’t change the reality of what’s happened and continues to happen as a result of the passage and gradual implementation of the ACA, nor does it change how an increasing number of people feel about it. Β The left can run from the facts on this, but they most certainly cannot hide.
