Liberal college “feminists” develop the vapors over nearly-nude male statue

Sleepwalker statue

The ”sleepwalker” statue.

And they say conservative women are fainting couch prudes? Via the Boston Globe (bolded emphasis added by me):

A realistic-looking statue of a man sleepwalking in his underwear near the center of Wellesley College has created a stir among the women on campus, especially as more than 100 students at the all-women’s college signed a petition asking administrators to remove it.

The statue, called Sleepwalker, is part of an art exhibit featuring sculptor Tony Matelli at the college’s Davis Museum. The exhibit, New Gravity, features sculptures that are often reversed, upended or atomized.

However, the statue of the sleepwalker — which is hard to miss in a high-traffic area by both pedestrians and drivers near the campus center — has caused outrage among some students in just one day after its Feb. 3 installation. Zoe Magid, a Wellesley College junior majoring in political science, started a petition on Change.org with other students asking college president H. Kim Bottomly to have the statue removed.

“[T]his highly lifelike sculpture has, within just a few hours of its outdoor installation, become a source of apprehension, fear, and triggering thoughts regarding sexual assault for many members of our campus community,” says the petition. “While it may appear humorous, or thought-provoking to some, it has already become a source of undue stress for many Wellesley College students, the majority of whom live, study, and work in this space.”

Davis Museum director Lisa Fischman wrote on Wellesley College’s official website that the sculpture was meant to evoke response.

[…]

However, Magid said over the phone Tuesday that Fischman’s response failed to address students’ concerns.

“We were really disappointed that she seemed to articulate that she was glad it was starting discussion, but didn’t respond to the fact that it’s making students on campus feel unsafe, which is not appropriate,” Magid said. “We really feel that if a piece of art makes students feel unsafe, that steps over a line.

Really. The pearl-clutching over this at Hillary Rodham Clinton’s all-girls  alma mater  is hysterical.  I thought feminists were supposed to have thicker skin than this?  It’s a statue. A tacky one, but a “piece of art” all the same.   What is it that makes them feel “unsafe”? The fact that the statue is nearly naked or … gasp … that it’s a reminder of  the dreaded “patriarchy”? Either way, grow a pair, ladies.  There are actually much more important, pressing things going on in the world that you might wanna tackle before waxing indignant over a harmless male sculpture.

Just sayin’.

U. of Minn. students urge school officials to drop racial descriptions in crime alerts

Political correctness

Another one from the ”you have got to be kidding me” files.

Just unbelievable. Via WCCO (hat tip):

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – School officials at the University of Minnesota are working with black student and facility organizations after they wrote a letter to the school’s president about the racial descriptions given in crime alerts.

The letter, sent on Dec. 6, 2013, was issued by members of the African American and African Studies, Black Faculty and Staff Association, Black Graduate and Professional Student Association, Black Men’s Forum, Black Student Union and Huntley House for African American Males.

It was directed to University President Eric Kaler and Pamela Wheelock, the vice president of University Services.

Students and staff mailed the letter more than a month after the campus went on lockdown because of an attempted robbery at Anderson Hall on Nov. 11, 2013. University of Minnesota Police wrongfully identified a student as the suspect.

On Tuesday, school officials reported there have been 25 robberies in and around the University, an increase of 27 percent over the last few years.

The organizations wrote that while campus safety is crucial, the profiling can be devastating for black male students.

“[We] unanimously agree that campus safety should be of the UMPD’s utmost importance; however, efforts to reduce crime should never be at the expense of our Black men, or any specific group of people likely to be targeted. In addition to causing Black men to feel unsafe and distrusted, racial profiling is proven to inflict negative psychological effects on its victims.”

At Wednesday’s forum, Ian Taylor Jr., president of the Black Men’s Forum, said members of his organization feel threatened when the use of a racial description is given in the crime alerts.

“The repeated black, black, black suspect,” Taylor said. “And what that does it really discomforts the mental and physical comfort for students on campus because they feel like suspicions begin to increase.”

Welcome to what the absurdity of political correctness hath wrought, and how the “culture of victimhood” – as perpetuated by opportunistic liberals – plays out in real time.  We must provide LESS information about a suspected criminal to students and the police because we don’t want to cause anyone “discomfort”!  Sure, let’s put lives at risk so we don’t offend anyone. Can you believe this garbage?  This level of PC “sensitivity” can and probably has gotten people hurt and/or killed.  You give EVERY BIT OF DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION YOU CAN when a suspect is on the loose so he or she can be reported, caught, and hauled in for questioning. Eliminating crucial information about his or her physical description can prove to be a devastating hindrance to law enforcement – and compromise the safety of students, faculty, and others.

Fortunately, the university agrees and has pushed back – for now:

On Jan. 27, 2014, a formal letter was issued by Wheelock.

[…]

“I firmly believe that a well-informed community is an asset to public safety…I believe that sharing more information in our Crime Alerts, not less, is most beneficial in terms of public safety, especially when that information is available.

The information we share can include a complete description of suspects, unique identifying characteristics such as an accent or a distinctive piece of clothing, or the description of vehicles involved.

We have reviewed what other Big Ten Universities and local colleges and universities include, and our practice of including the race of a suspect when it is available from a victim’s description is consistent with their practices.”

The Daily Caller provides an interesting side note to all of this:

If the university did put an end to its practice of considering race in crime alerts, it would be an ironic exception to campus policy. UM practices affirmative action, and considers an applicant’s race when deciding whether to admit.

The Daily Caller reached out to the Black Men’s Forum at UM to ask whether the group supports an end to racial considerations in admission as well as in crime alerts. The group did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Why am I not surprised?

Racism! Bowie State (MD) cancels student health insurance plans due to #Obamacare

Obama teleprompter

One empty promise after another, and another, and …

Katherine Timpf  at Campus Reform reports:

Officials at one one of the nation’s oldest and most elite historically black colleges are citing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as the reason they have cancelled a school-wide affordable health care plan they had offered students.

The official website for Bowie State, a Maryland public school less than an hour’s drive from Washington D.C., explains that Obamacare’s new regulations would force the cost of the the insurance to rise from $50 to $900 a semester.

“Bowie State University has suspended offering health insurance for domestic students for the 2013-2014 academic year,” states the school’s official website. “Due to new requirements of the Affordable Care Act which will go into effect on January 1, 2014, the cost of insurance for domestic students will increase to approximately $1800 per year.”

That works out to approximately $900 per semester. The student health insurance plan had cost students $50 per semester for the 2012-13 school year, according to a cached page of the university’s description of the plan. The original link to the description has been deleted.

According to an article in The Bulldog Collegian, Bowie State’s official student newspaper, the Director of the Bowie State University Wellness Center said that the university decided it would not be worth it to provide student health insurance at all given how expensive it would be to do so under the new regulations.

The student’s article, published Nov. 10, had slightly different numbers than the school website’s. It states that the student health plan used to cost $54/semester, not $50, and that the new insurance costs would amount to $1,900 per year, not $1,800.

In August of this year, White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest suggested that President Obama’s would lend special support to the country’s historically black colleges and universities.

Yet another promise by the Obama administration on Obamacare that hasn’t panned out – and probably deliberately so. Imagine that?!

Shock: College hook-up culture brings far more “benefits” for men than women

FacebookTwitterPrintFriendly
Hook-up culture

Just say no … to the hook-up culture.

College Fix associate editor Jennifer Kabbany writes about a New York Times report on the “inequality” of the, um, “quality” of the hook-up culture for college women:

The infamous college campus hook-up culture celebrated by feminists suggests female students love casual, no-strings-attached sex, and enjoy one-night stands without guilt, shame or regret.

Oh yeah – then why aren’t they having orgasms when they do?

Research involving 600 college students … found that women were twice as likely to reach orgasm from intercourse or oral sex in serious relationships as in hookups,” the New York Times reported Monday. The factoid was couched in a longer article titled “In Hook-Ups, Inequality Still Reigns.”

“Many young women … are finding that casual sex does not bring the physical pleasure that men more often experience,” the Times reports. “New research suggests why: Women are less likely to have orgasms during uncommitted sexual encounters than in serious relationships. At the same time, researchers say that young women are becoming equal partners in the hookup culture, often just as willing as young men to venture into sexual relationships without emotional ties.”

The article goes on to cite another study which looked at 24,000 students at 21 colleges over five years that found “about 40 percent of women had an orgasm during their last hookup involving intercourse, while 80 percent of men did.”

The Times’ report interviewed several people who had all sorts of ideas as to what’s going wrong in the bedroom, such as that young men don’t care about pleasing a women they see casually, and the twosome doesn’t know each other well enough to know how to get each other off. Predictably, it goes on to quote sources who say sex without orgasms is fine for women seeking to scratch that carnal itch – that “mediocre sex” is the price women pay for freedom.

But the truth is women engaged in casual sex don’t reach orgasm because – on some level – they know they’re selling themselves short. They’re giving away their ace in the hole, pardon the pun, to some guy who barely knows their name and is likely too drunk to remember it in the morning. They’re offering themselves to a man who has committed nothing to them, cares nothing for them.

This is “sexual freedom”? No thank you. Give me emotional commitment over a “hook-up” any day.  It’s a lot more fulfilling and rewarding – and not merely in terms of just the physical aspects.    Young women constantly sell themselves – and their ability to have a nurturing, loving, sustaining, more equal relationship – short in this regard (frankly, men do, too).  And it hurts their ability to trust in the long run. But it’s what rules in pop culture, it’s the “in” thing to do.  It’s “rebellious”, it’s a “rite of passage”  – and for women, it’s the ultimate sign of “non-conformity” against the values their parents tried to instill in them when they were growing up.

Isn’t it far more grown up and, dare I say “rebellious”,  to resist the temptation to be like everyone else and to NOT do what everyone else is doing? Just askin.’

Unhinged #NCpol Dems: What liberal NC professors think of opposing viewpoints

FacebookTwitterPrintFriendly
Liberal academic bias

Very real. Extremely disturbing.
(Image via the Washington Times)

College Fix’s Ben Smith files this report on the recent “Scholars’ for North Carolina’s Future” gathering held at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prepare for much New Tone:

CHAPEL HILL – Abortion safety laws make it “more dangerous for the black woman’s body.” Republican lawmakers “want kids to die.” Conservatives “are trying to take the U.S. hostage” and hope to “destroy our public school system.”

That’s just a sample of some of the vitriol spewed Thursday night at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, which played host to a meeting of Scholars’ for North Carolina’s Future, a group of secular-progressive college professors who have helped lead, along with the NAACP and AFL-CIO, weekly “Moral Monday” protests at the state capitol over the last several months.

The Moral Monday movement is a massive and disruptive weekly civil disobedience demonstration, and it has become somewhat of a spectacle in North Carolina, with liberal activists using it as a platform to rally against the Republican-held majority in the General Assembly and its approval of issues such as voter-ID laws and fiscal responsibility on public education.

The panel was billed around campus as a chance to learn what Moral Mondays are really all about, and see how they “fit in with past social movements.” Before the panel at the Global Education Center at UNC Chapel Hill began, many in the audience of about 165 people discussed their experiences during protests at the Raleigh statehouse.

Several openly bragged about their arrests, fights with cops, and the help with legal entanglements they’ve received from the NAACP. More than 900 arrests have occurred since the protests launched in April. As the audience – a mostly white, elderly group – waited for the meeting to begin, they also talked with impassioned contempt about conservatives. About a dozen students attended the event, which was heavily publicized in the Gender Studies and Journalism departments.

The lack of minorities in the audience, less than 10, was astonishing for a group so entwined with the Rev. Dr. William Barber, president of the North Carolina State Conference of the NAACP. Jesse White, former director of UNC’s Office of Economic and Business Development and an adjunct government professor, began the meeting by asking those who had attended a Moral Monday to stand. Almost 75 percent of the crowd stood.

He then asked all to be seated except those who have been arrested at a Moral Monday. About a dozen remained standing, none of them students. As he continued, he called the movement “inspiring” and Republican state legislators regressive.

Remember when going to college was supposed to expose you to all kinds of differing viewpoints?  It’s been so long …

Anyway, make sure to read the whole thing, and if you’re a parent who is paying or who will be paying for your daughter and/or son to attend UNC-CH, Duke, or any of the other universities mentioned in the piece, question what you’re money will be paying for.  The intolerance level is set to “HIGH” for many of the professors at these “institutions of higher learning”, and while I know many conservatives who have gotten a great education at UNC-CH, Duke, and other colleges in this state, I know of far more with the mindset of the “professors.”

Related to all this, Michelle Malkin’s Twitter aggregation site Twitchy.com documented a rant I posted earlier this week about prominent NC left wing activists based in the Raleigh area who have been after me and other loudmouthed NC conservative women for months in attempts to “out” our identities. Why? Because we dared to invade their social media frat party.  You can read the back story on this here and here.   Also,  please make sure to read Robert Stacy McCain’s post on this, titled “When ‘Shutuppery’ Fails“.

BTW, this is a group of mostly liberal women who have been engaged at this. Talk about War On Women … by women! ;)

#NewTone: Tolerant, peaceful college leftists heckle, harass, chase David Petraeus

FacebookTwitterPrintFriendly

Via Mediaite (hat tip):

Recent video shows former CIA director David Petraeus being chased down a New York City street by student activists at the City University of New York.

As BusinessInsider reported, Petraeus was on the way to teaching his first class at CUNY’s honors college, entitled “Are We on the Threshold of the North American Decade?” He took on the teaching gig as part of rehabilitating his image following an extramarital affair scandal that led to his resignation from the CIA.

The students can be heard yelling “War criminal!” at the retired military officer who played a key role in the “counterinsurgency” strategy of the Iraq War. “Every class, David!” the students shout, suggesting they plan to protest him on a weekly basis, before every lecture.

“Petraeus out of CUNY” and “Fascist” were some of the other chants.

The video, about a minute and a half, is below:

Wait a minute – you thought far leftists, especially at institutions of higher learning, were all about peace, tolerance, understanding, and open-mindedness? Oh, let me dissuade you of that notion right now. In reality, far leftists at universities and colleges across the country are some of the most intolerant, bigoted, hateful, closed-minded people you will ever come across in your life. And once they graduate and head out into the real world, most of them carry on with the same type of disgusting behavior, because they were lovingly coddled – and in many cases blatantly encouraged – by their professors and other higher ups in academia to keep “speaking truth to power” or whatever.

America is raising a nation full of ungrateful, disrespectful, self-centered imbeciles. We can only hope that most of them won’t go into politics.

Tolerance

Truth.

Caught: Progressive activists exposed in Oberlin College “racism hate crimes” hoax

FacebookTwitterPrintFriendly
Hoax

Time to hit the hoax button on a liberal ”hate crime.” Again.

If you don’t read anything else at all this weekend, PLEASE read this in full.  The below is an excerpt (hat tip):

A massive racism hoax took place at Oberlin College in February 2013 in which two students made seemingly racist, anti-Semitic and other such posters, graffiti and emails for the purpose of getting a reaction on campus, not because they believed the hostile messages.  At least one of the two was an Obama supporter with strong progressive, anti-racist politics.

School officials and local police knew the identity of the culprits, who were responsible for most if not all of such incidents on campus, yet remained silent as the campus reacted as if the incidents were real.  National media attention focused on campus racism at Oberlin for weeks without knowing it was a hoax.

The hoax was confirmed when Chuck Ross of The Daily Caller recently obtained police records.  Now it’s out in the open.  Here is the history of how the hoax developed, played out in the media, and was covered up by the Oberlin administration.

The “hate” incidents cause campus and the media to erupt in protest

During February 2013 into early March, there were racist, homophobic and anti-Semitic postings on an Oberlin message board and in graffiti and signs around campus.

The issues burst onto the national media scene when a student claimed to see someone walking in a Klan robe late at night.

Professor Bill Jacobson, who wrote the above, notes that Michelle Malkin – an Oberlin College alum herself – was also on top this issue from the get go.  She wrote a follow-up yesterday. More here.  To make matters worse on this story is the discovery that Oberlin College officials KNEW this was a hoax … but said nothing.  Of this, Darleen Click writes:

The college’s administration knew early on this was a hoax and chose to remain silent. They deliberately fed into the Leftist narrative that America is more racist than ever.

Will there be any consequences for Oberlin’s despicable behavior?

Probably not, as “fake but accurate” is a guiding Leftist principle.

Sad, but true.

As I’ve said many times before, if “hate crimes” are so widespread in this country, why do liberals CONSTANTLY have to fabricate them in order to “prove” what a “racist/sexist/homophobic” nation the US supposedly is??  Maddening.

QOTD: Tennessee state senator on University of TN’s “Sex Week”

FacebookTwitterPrintFriendly

Heh:

“They say it’s all about diversity,” he told Fox News. “Well, perversity does not make diversity just because it’s at the university.”

That’s Tennessee state senator state senator Stacey Campfield (R), discussing the University’s upcoming “Sex Week” in light of university officials pulling taxpayer funding for it after TN politicos got wind of what was (about to) go on. Fox Radio’s Todd Starnes has more:

Organizers of the University of Tennessee’s first-ever “Sex Week” will have to find a new source of funding after embattled university officials reversed course and announced they will not fund the controversial program with state tax dollars.

“We support the process and the students involved, but we should not use state funds in this manner,” Chancellor Jimmy Cheek said in a statement.

Cheek made the announcement after reviewing “Sex Week’s” final agenda. As a result, the student-led event will be forced to find $11,145 in additional funding. The university will continue to let the group use $6,700 in student fees.

UT System President Joe DiPietro said he supports the decision.

“The University is accountable to the General Assembly, the governor and the people of Tennessee for the use of state tax dollars,” DiPietro said. “The University’s three-part mission is to provide education, research and public service, and the state allocates this funding to help us fulfill the mission. Some activities planned as part of Sex Week are not an appropriate use of state tax dollars.”

The university’s turn-about came as Tennessee’s governor and a host of lawmakers voiced their public opposition. Several lawmakers had already announced plans to defund the university unless they defunded “Sex Week.”

A spokesman for Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam told Fox News that based on the information they had, “we believe this is an inappropriate use of university funds.”

Sex Week is scheduled for April 7-12 and includes 30 events including “Getting Laid,” “Sex Positivity; Queer as a Verb,” “Bow Chicka Bow Woah,” “How to talk to Your Parents About Sex,” “Loud and Queer,” and “How Many Licks Does it Take…” – a workshop about oral sex.

“We should be teaching these children what is important to learn so they can get jobs,” state Sen. Stacey Campfield told Fox News. “I don’t know what jobs they plan on getting if they’re having seminars on oral sex and bondage. I don’t see how that will help someone in their professional career – unless they plan on becoming a porn star.”

The university had allocated nearly $20,000 to fund the week-long salute to sex that also included a poetry-reading lesbian bondage expert and a campus-wide scavenger hunt for a golden condom.

Now there’s something you wanna put on your resume once you’re done with college … l-)

We are witnessing the rise of a generation of narcissistic fools.  I weep.

FL college recommends termination of professor in Obama vote pledge scandal

FacebookTwitterPrintFriendly

Florida Today reports on a college’s recommendation to terminate an algebra professor who forced students to sign pledges to vote for President Obama last year (hat tip: Daily Caller by way of Memeorandum):

An algebra instructor at Brevard Community College faces termination after an investigation by college officials found that she urged — and forced in some cases — students to sign pledge cards promising to vote for President Barack Obama in November.

College officials made the recommendation Friday following a three-month-long investigation into complaints Associate Professor Sharon Sweet, a registered Democrat, distributed partisan campaign materials in her five math classes and promoted presidential politics. BCC officials did not comment on the case beyond a prepared statement listing the investigation’s findings.

Sweet violated BCC’s code of conduct prohibiting employees from soliciting political support for candidates and creating a hostile academic environment, according to the college’s statement.

“Sweet’s actions caused students to feel considerable discomfort, to believe their privacy was being invaded, to fear their grade could be negatively impacted if they refused to sign the pledge cards, and to feel intimidated,” the statement issued Friday read.

[…]

The investigation began with a parent’s complaint. Sweet also continues to be listed as a senator with the United Faculty of Florida-Brevard Chapter, a collective bargaining group representing instructors at the school. Judi Schatte, president of the chapter and who has an office at the college’s Cocoa campus, could not be reached for comment. The college is closed on Fridays.

Sweet has 10 working days to respond to the investigation’s findings. The recommendation will then be forwarded to the college’s Board of Trustees, who will review the information before making a final decision at a hearing. No hearing date has been set.

Here’s the official report of the investigation’s findings.

I know this goes without saying, but if we could just stop liberal college professors who use much more subtle tactics than this gal did to indoctrinate students, the country would be a much better place – pretty much guaranteed. Lots more free thinkers, less victim mentality types, more proponents of individual liberty, etc.

As a sidenote, why do I get the feeling if this had been a registered Republican professor, this story would have made national headlines and been endlessly discussed on all the news nets for several days? #RhetoricalQuestion

(Video) A walk through a liberal time capsule

FacebookTwitterPrintFriendly

**Posted by Phineas

Bill Whittle recently spoke at Oberlin College, one of the most liberal of liberal arts schools, where he says he had a great time. His hosts couldn’t been any nicer.

But he was struck by something else, too: he was in a progressive time capsule. At various moments in his visit to Oberlin, he saw shocking examples of the intolerance of the supposedly tolerant campus Left, especially for anything that disagreed with their false dogmas, which haven’t changed in 60 years.

Gotta love that open-mindedness that lets you say and think whatever you want, just so long as you say and think the right things.
