There’s a “Blueball, PA” and an “Intercourse, PA.”…I think they are in the Amish parts of the state.

A Texas Road-Naming Tale

A few years back, somebody with some pull in the state capitol in Austin whose brother-in-law apparently owned a sign company attempted to have the Texas Highway Department rename all the 2,000 miles of old Farm Roads in the 8,778 square mile Houston metro area — (that is, they tried to rename the road designations by which the better part of over 5 million people – women, children, workers, lawyers – and over 6 million people if you count the illegals – know where they are at each day!) — and give these roads new names in accordance with the principles of the “New Urbanism”.

So, they hired some new urbanism-planning government liberals who had immigrated to Texas illegally from Massatussettes, and were intent upon renaming the old Houston-area Farm Roads as “Urbans,” even though most of these roads are in the “Suburbans” and a lot of them are even in the “Stix”, which, depending on where you are, could be 50 miles away from downtown Houston or 10 miles away from downtown Houston, or could be in downtown Houston if you know the bayous and backstreets.

Now, this would have caused much more confusion here than in Brewster county in west Texas, square miles 6,191 with a population of about 10,000 people, 20,000 white-tail deer, 50,000 prairie dogs and half a million rattle snakes, and not all that many roads to rename, though they are truly long and often winding roads.

So, we told them to go out to west Texas to Brewster county, and rename the roads there, as it would take less time and fewer signs.

These urban liberal Massatussettes Innovators of Texas were never heard from again, as they had a flat tire along the 800 miles of I-10 from here to west Texas, wandered off the Federal highway and into the sands of the west Texas desert looking for an “Urban” gas station, and got lost somewhere in the 40,000 square miles of “Stix” between Brewster county and the “Suburbans” of El Paso, Texas.

I say never heard from again, but we have received rumours they did survive the ordeal, and are now in charge of Urban Planning in Portland, Oregon, where they are renaming the city streets as “Sidewalks”.

There is a street called “Casebeer” in Newman, IL

There is an intersection of Routes “T” and “A” in NW Missouri…we took Route T and down the road a bit there were two dome-shaped buildings right next to each other(I think they hold sand for the HWY Dept). Coincidence?

AP’s San Francisco office made the error of placing Farfrompoopen Road in Tennessee rather than in Arkansas in reporting the story. Now if you Google Farfrompoopen Road, there about about 80,000 entries. I did not look at all of them, but a lot of them that I saw perpetuated the error.

If you look at Mitsubishi’s Web site, you will see that Farfrompoopen Road, which came in third, is in Story, Ark. On second thought, it’s too bad it did not come in No. 2.
