My grandfather marched with King in Selma, Alabama in the 1960s and was member of the Deacons for Defense there. He’s 84 years old. Of course he’s a full-fledged Obama supporter. But he has this big fear and that some of us in the black community are going to look at an Obama victory as “sticking it to whitey” instead of an American triumph and realization of King’s dream. His words:

I’ve seen too much hatred and pain to use an Obama victory against other proud Americans.

But I know there are going to be some brickheaded wackaroons that are going to act ignorant and foolish. Hopefully it’s isolated.

I’m sorry you went through that, ST, and I’m glad the incidents weren’t worse. I think you’re right, though: whether Obama is elected or not, Black-White relations in this country are going to get worse, not better.

Beyond Obama himself, I blame the Democratic Party, which has spent decades treating people like victim groups rather than individuals, pandering to them instead of helping them rise in society. To put it bluntly, the Democratic Party and race-hustlers like Jackson and Sharpton have infantilized African-American culture in the US, encouraging a culture of grievance, victimhood, and dependence on government. We’re going to pay a price for that. Obama’s great shame is that he has done nothing to counter any of that.

If Obama is elected, wait till someone opposes his first edict. Democrats and the sycophantic MSM will immediately brand him/her a racist. 50% of the white U.S. population and 99.9% of white Congress are scared silly of being labeled a racist. The race hustlers know it and have made good livings for decades shaking down corporations, with assistance from their Democrat accomplices (and spineless Republican cheese eaters) for decades. It’ll be worse under Obama, because he is a socialist (perhaps a Marxist) at heart, and will have free reign unchecked by Congress or the U.S. Supreme Court.

I’m sorry you had these very unsettling experiences. I do believe that Obama shares some responsibility. It was he who told his followers to “get in their faces”, so these punks are only following his directions. If this isn’t what he had in mind, then he should clarify those remarks.

Now you know why I don’t put bumper stickers of any kind on a car (Never have, can’t stand them on a pricey piece of machinery like a car, my Father was the same way) and why I carry a gun. There are too many nutcases running around loose out there.

I sympathize though, and am sorry you had these experiences. But, Liberals are the peaceful, diversity oriented types!

The only advertising I have on my vehicle is a Magnum cling-on the back window which is tinted.

I am afraid to post conservative or religious bumper-stickers because I know I am asking for vehicle damage. Although I do have a McCain-Palin sign in my front yard. I guess I’m not as scared of my neighbors.

I am also worried about a conservative bumper-sticker because of my work. I am surrounded by democrats and worry that if they knew who I am, it might harm my job or working relationships.

It’s very difficult to hear them “discuss” politics and not correct their MSM-views.

I was phone banking here at the local Republican headquarters and there was a call that a slew of McCain/Palin signs were stolen. And, this was near my home. And, like you ST, I live in a liberal area. No threat to The One winning here. But, it is the left wanting to shut down any dissenting views. I really worry that a Sen. Messiah Barack victory will only open the floodgates of the grievance community. And, that is not just minorities but ALL kinds of fringe groups. Either way, we will be screwed for about two years. My thought is that by then things will calm down. Especially when Sen. McCain, then president McCain, makes real change. I think should he win, he should at the very least offer some kind of post to The One. That would send a strong message that I do not think The One could do.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if McCain did that. McCain’s an honorable man no matter what other bloggers and MSM pundits say.

As a black man, I don’t think there will be widespread rioting by black folks. BUT in the more crime-addled areas, sadly I have to admit that there is a 51% chance that some ruckus may start. It would really disappoint me because I know how that ugly symbol would play. I have heard some black urban radio hosts like Tom Joyner say to his audience that Obama losing is not a loss for black folks because millions of Americans of all colors have shown their support. Mr. Joyner bluntly said “we (black folks) should just chill if McCain wins”. But I can say this, down here in Georgia, the early voting lines have been BEYOND civil. Downright chummy between McCain and Obama supporters. I just loved how many people are showing up to vote.

I know what you mean, I fear the attitude will be one of “time to get our share of power, money, and revenge.” I’ve noticed that all too often when a minority candidate makes it into office (mayor, governor, etc.) the attitude isn’t one of let me run my administration and office in a way that’s beyond reproach to prove the bigots wrong about my people, it’s time for me to get mine and results in astounding levels of dishonesty, corruption, and outright theft/fraud, beyond even what’s normal for politicians. This does a disservice to those who are honest, but it seems to happen far more often than it should, and reflects the kind of attitude, frankly, that the Rev. Wright espouses. The kind of attitude that the majority has held us back and crapped on us so now we are justified in doing whatever we can get away with. Not a pretty picture.

Oh, and T-Steel, a word of thanks for being about the most level headed, rational, and apparently honorable liberal I’ve encountered online in years. You’re a ray of hope to us conservatives that not all liberals are barking mad.

I lived in NC for many years and have 3 adult children who still live around Raleigh. At one time a conserative state, the influx of jobs from the northeast combined with the college system there has dramatically raised the number of liberals in the state. UNC continues to indoctrinate not educate. They failed with my three, but have been quite successful with much of the student population. I continue to find it ironic that the party of tolerance and diversity is the source of an inordinate number of these incidents and agree with the earlier commentor that the Democrat party is at least partly to blame for pushing the “victim” ideology. If I have been victimized than I my anger is in some way rationalized.

I got an email from a reader earlier tonight in response to what I wrote who told me essentially the same thing about how I encouraged and invited the harassment by putting the sticker on my car. Keep in mind that the sticker isn’t nasty, doesn’t say “Obama’s a COMMUNIST!!” or anything of the sort. It simply reads, “NOBAMA.”

The even funnier part was that he told me that I should work to not “offend” people by broadcasting my political beliefs on my car, and not just with a NOBAMA sticker but any sticker, including a McCain-Palin sticker (which I also have). I guess in his view I should just restrict my “offending” political views to online posting – I mean, God help if you want to express yourself in other ways.

I find it somewhat amusing that some of the reactions I’m getting in my email – and at a political forum I post at – have taken the “she asked for the sexual harassment she got at work, because her skirt was too short” attitude. I’m reading that people have a “right to respond” to my bumper stickers. Of course they do. But they don’t have the right be rude jerks by fliping me off and trying to run me off the road.

I’ve been lucky so far. My bumper sticker with a picture of Palin and the words “more experienced than Obama” hasn’t drawn much ire. I had purchased a hero/zero one, but have not put it on for the obvious reasons.

I disagree with T-Steele. Rioters just look for excuses. Win or lose there will be riots. If he wins, expect the flipping cars and burning that you’d see if your team won the world series. If he loses, expect riots like we haven’t seen since the 60’s. The anger a McCain win will cause will be overwhelming.

If Obama wins, expect race relations to worsen dramatically.

Anthony, Bachbone, Severian and T-Steele, all I can say is take a look at Detroit. It’s a fine example of what happens when someone who’s got their dig on runs government. This is simply on a bigger scale.

I grew up in Detroit during the Coleman Young years. I hated the mixed message, the left-handed complement, that we heard day after day after day there. The message Young gave to the very people he was supposed to be looking out for was that they were unprepared, incompetent and should be wards of the public simply because of the color of their skin. Nonsense. Leg-up-not-hand-out was never a tactic in Coleman Young’s repertoire.

While I admit it’s been almost 20 years since Young’s been out of office, the political machine he started in the Motor City has been perpetuated. Detroit is one of the dirtiest, dangerous cities in this country and most of it is due to the same kinds of policies embraced by the Obama camp.

It makes me angry that even to this day we have ignoramuses, both white and black, that simply can’t shake that crap and get along with each other. And like most people here, my objections to Obama’s platform have less than nothing to do with his skin color. I don’t like the idea of having to break my back at work to pay for someone who doesn’t want to get with the program and support himself or herself. Furthermore, I don’t want to see what happened in my hometown to happen nationwide. That alone is scary as hell.

Wow, what has this country come to? It seems that there hasn’t been too much progress with race relations. As a young Black woman, I find it deplorable that black people are still holding on to this mentality that white folks owe them something. My in-laws are notorious for this and don’t hesitate to give me Civil Rights lectures when I attempt to state my viewpoints. I am not an Obama supporter, and believe me, I don’t get asked why not. I get remonstrated for not supporting a black man and called a “race traitor”. Since when did race have anything to do with the presidency? I just don’t find him the better candidate based on his Socialistic stance to running the government. It’s gotten to the point where I refuse to discuss politics with anyone, lest I be “outed”. I wish for peace after the elections, no matter what the outcome. I empathize with you tremendously.
