This should have been a cakewalk for Tedisco, with a 75-000 GOP advantage in party registration.

But Tedisco waffled on the Porkulus bill for weeks and watched his 12-point lead evaporate. Tedisco then tried to run to the left of Democrats on the AIG bonuses, which turned off even more Republicans and independents without attracting Democrats (somewhere I ran across a poll that showed Tedisco only getting 67% of the GOP vote, with Murphy at nearly 90% of the Democrat vote). It will be interesting to see what turnout was like in GOP-friendly counties versus ACORN territory.

The unofficial returns have Murphy winning with about 200 votes. To win at all Tedisco would have had to get 15,000-25,000 more votes than Murphy to overcome Democrat cheating.
