Jerry Brown is either a fool or a swine

I’m old enough to remember when Jerry Brown was last governor of California. I can’t say much about his term of office, though, because I was in college and not paying much attention to state politics at the time. My impression, though, was that, his personal eccentricities aside, he was mostly a standard issue California liberal: support for government solutions in preference to the private sector, a strong alliance with labor unions, and a willingness to hike taxes. On the plus side, though he opposed Proposition 13, which limited property taxes, once it passed, he worked within its limits and actually cut state spending. So, a generally center-left record, albeit pragmatic.

As Mayor of Oakland he continued to chart a pragmatic course, seeking to lure businesses to the city and trying to revitalize the downtown area. He even invited the Marines to hold wargames at the closed US Army base in Oakland. You can imagine how that was greeted by the local Lefties.

Leaving Oakland, he ran for and won election as Attorney General, though everyone knew this was just a stepping stone back to the governor’s office. And, indeed, his policies drifted more and more back toward those that would please the Left. For example, he tried desperately to ignore the scandals surrounding ACORN. When that was impossible, his investigation found they had broken no laws. On the other hand, he was eager to investigate Sarah Palin’s appearance at Cal State Stanislaus. That, too, turned up no law-breaking. Overall, the Competitive Enterprise Institute rated Brown as one of the worst state attorney generals in the nation (PDF)

Now it appears that transformation from the pragmatic Center-Left to full-blown tool is complete. Fearful that he hasn’t the money to compete with Republican nominee Meg Whitman, Brown has sunk to prostituting and prostrating himself before the most vile hard-Left, anti-American groups in the state. Tonight, just a couple of miles from Public Secrets Global HQ, Jerry is the guest of honor at a fundraiser at the home of Jodie Evans, one of the heads of Code Pink:

Brown fan Jodie Evans between Cindy Sheehan and Hugo Chavez

Many of the Los Angeles glitterati will be there, too, at the home of a Hamas supporter. Evans and her crew even once told a mother whose Navy son was killed in Iraq that her boy deserved to die “for being stupid enough to go there.”

A serious candidate for Governor of the State of California is taking money from these pigs? Bear in mind that the “once and future” Governor Brown would be commander in chief of California’s National Guard and that, to date, 599 Californians, Guardsmen and regulars, have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.

And you’re letting a group that admires dictators and terrorists and spits on grieving mothers host a party for you, Mr. Attorney General?

So, which is it, Jerry? Fool or swine? Or is it that we know what you are and, after tonight, we’ll know the price?

UPDATE: Code Pink got a taste of its own medicine last night. Hah!

I go with “foolish swine” with regards to the left extreme pandering Brown. He caught the Obama Flu… ^:)^

  2. dunce says:

Only two choices and it must be one or the other. Please do not deny him all the perjoratives he has earned.

  3. Meg Whitman is scary too.

  4. Rorschach says:

why must it be either/or? my vote? both, and so very much more.

  5. PE says:

Right now, Jerry Brown is an ardent suitor of the voters of California. As such he is demonstrating his very best public personna in order to convince voters to vote for him. One can only imagine what he will do if elected to run wild and free. Like a feral hog.

  6. Steve Hussein Skubinna says:

I vote both, just as I eventually did regarding Jimmy Carter. For years I considered Carter a well meaning fool, an incompetent with good intentions. His behavior the past decade has made it clear to me that he is both a fool and a knave. He embodies Hannah Arendt’s phrase “the banality of evil.”

Brown, like nearly all pols, is a whore and will go where the money is. Most pols however are aware of lines they should not cross, and if we find one who is either oblivious to the lines or sees them and crosses them anyway, we are justified in drawing conclusions to his character.

  7. Zippy says:

The thought ‘desperate swine’ comes to me.

  8. david foster says:

Paul Gardner…why do you think Meg Whitman is scary?

  9. Pasadena Phil says:

That he hasn’t been able to raise funds from the various unions may be a sign that they are not concerned about Meg Whitman being serious about her campaign promises to bring discipline to the California budget process.

You can’t fix California without going after the public employee and health care unions and the prospect of a governor Whitman doesn’t seem to be worrying the unions.

  10. Pasadena Phil says:

That Brown hasn’t been able to raise funds from the various unions may be a sign that they are not concerned about Meg Whitman being a serious threat to their budget-busting empire. You can’t fix California’s budget problems without busting the government employee unions that have a strangle hold on everything. Whitman has probably made a deal with the unions in private.

This would be totally consistent with her campaign strategy of promising amnesty and open-borders in her Spanish-language ads while promising to end sanctuary cities and hiring of illegal immigrants in her English-language ads.

Not much to pick from between Brown and Whitman. Two ultra-liberal Democrats. I will not be voting for either one of them. There is no “lesser of two evils” in this case and Whitman may even be worse.

  11. Tango says:

….there’s a very old saying that, “as California goes, so goes the nation.” That has often been proven true. I do not know how things in CA might go with Meg Whitman at the helm. One presumes that the Dem-controlled state houses would simply opt to wait her out, just like they have Ahnold. She might be able to circumvent and overcome; we’d have to wait and see.

On the other hand, we know with near certainty what another term with Jerry Brown would bring…. b-)

  12. Glenn Cassel AMH1(AW) USN Retired says:

    I vote Swine.
Then remember 1976 when he came in third behind jimmy and gary. The only thing moonbeam had going for him then was a serious trophy girlfriend, Linda Ronstadt. Yeah. I remember.

  13. Forgot to mention that meg is the lesser of two evils. But there is no way in hell that I could ever support a candidate like moonbeam after a stunt like this. Shows his true colors.

  14. Illegal immigration is killing California. Meg Whitman will do nothing about it. She opposes 1070. She supports “comprehensive immigration reform.” She has billboards in Spanish saying so.

  15. Steve Young says:

Jerry Brown is the consummate political hack.

He has sucked at the tit of the California public for far too long.

His philosophy and political positions have ALL been disproved many times over.

I left California because of the damage caused by him and his ilk.

May he rot in hell (and I’m an atheist).

California – if you elect this pr*ck again – then you deserve what you get.

  16. mike191 says:

The epitome of pathogenic groups is code pink.If Mr.Brown wants to hob nob with this disease the voters have a clear choice this fall.

  17. Carlos says:

Meg W may be a jenny, but Brown is, was and always will be a jackass of the highest order, taking California over the brink socially, economically, fiscally and mentally.

  18. Valerie says:

I’m a member of a ‘health care union’ in California – against my will, but I have to in order to be paid to care for my disabled son.

At a recent meeting, the union rep indicated to us that, despite being a registered Republican, he was voting for Jerry Brown, and urged us to. I absolutely laughed out loud!! I wouldn’t vote for him for dog catcher!! Meg Whitman wants to purge California’s government of pork and fraud. Even the program I’m employed through has pork and fraud, and needs to be cleaned up!

Jerry Brown needs to retire from politics and begin to collect the numerous pensions he’ll get from the numerous government jobs he’s held. He’s a major joke.

  19. Jo says:

    Unfreakin’-believeable–Hugo Chavez?????? Really?????

  20. nina says:

Pasadena Phil your state is bankrupt. Meg Whitman is a pretty successful business person. I would suggest she might have some liberal tendencies but she might be the only one to save you. Don’t stay home that’s how we got Obama because Reps couldn’t stand the thought of voting for McPain.
