“We’re not really people to them.”

Jim Geraghty on what the Left’s reaction to the death of Andrew Breitbart reveals about them:

I had observed, yesterday, that there were not merely a handful of folks on the left sneering about how happy they were that Breitbart had suddenly died. There were gobs and gobs of them, all over Twitter and the web at large. If you need examples, Charlie Spiering collected plenty here, though I’d urge most of sound mind to avoid putting themselves through reading that.

You can call this whatever you like — the Daily-Kos-ification of the Left, perhaps — but it confirms what many of us suspected and/or feared. I didn’t want to believe it, really. I personally know too many people I’d identify as Democrats, if not liberals, who are too decent to ever express such raw hate and cruelty. But a large chunk of the rank and file of the Left — way more than a small percentage — really don’t believe that their opponents deserve anything resembling basic human dignity or respect.

We’re not really people to them. It’s not an accident that [a] New York Times columnist referred to his critics on Twitter as “right-wing lice.” They’re not good, decent Americans who just have some different ideas about how to make the world a better place. They run on hate. It appears their entire sense of self-worth is driven by demonizing those who disagree with them and celebrating their political viewpoints as the cardinal measurements of virtue and good character. They are positively energized by the thought of lashing out at those of us who have the audacity to think differently than they. They really do project and accuse the opposition of all their worst traits: rage, closed-mindedness, cruelty, intolerance, bigotry, and an inability to empathize with others. And they completely lack self-awareness. They are blind to the irony of their actions. As someone said on Twitter today (I can’t find the comment now), “How many of the people celebrating Andrew’s death have a ‘NO H8? icon on their avatar?”

Time and again we see this violent emotional reaction whenever someone challenges left-liberals’ own (self-assumed) wisdom and moral superiority. Call it a “fascist mentality,” “immaturity,” or even a simple lack of decency, but an inability of so many in their camp to deal reasonably with those who disagree is a sign of something very wrong deep-down, something innate in the progressive philosophy that affects thought and behavior.

It’s disturbing.

  1. Have you ever visited litte-green-footballs? Don’t you think you see the exact same thing there?

  2. Phineas says:

Used to go there all the time, before Charles went off the deep left end of the pier. I do have the honor of being banned there, though. :)

  3. Matt says:

    Methinks they project much!

  4. Carlos says:

This is simply the result of decades of indoctrination in guvmint day-care camps that tells the darling little mushminds that anyone who disagrees with them is not only evil but to be obsessed over, hated and driven away.

Nothing about converting them to the progressive way of thinking because progressive thought cannot be made logical enough to sway any but the weakest minds.

Nothing about civil discourse because screaming “Raaaciiiist!” is as civil as liberal debate gets after initial ad hominems are directed at anyone daring to debate outside the fences libs place their ideologies into.

Their ideologies are nearly eschatological in nature. Discouraging that in a country founded on biblical principle man has become so enamored of himself that he now believes himself capable of controlling all nature, including human nature and the meteorological nature of the ball of dirt we live on.

  5. Drew the Infidel says:

It is the mark of a dangerous personality when someone finds the only way to build themselves up is by tearing others down. “He who guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.” Proverbs 13:3

  6. Ken66 says:

The quote of the NYT columnist was interesting. Never saw so much hate. I wonder if he/she/it is capable of seeing the irony.

  7. david foster says:

It’s *very* disturbing, and points out just how high the stakes are in this election. The core members of the “progressive” movement are totalitarian by nature, and given another 4 years of Obama they would transform America into such a dysfunctional and tightly-controlled society that they would be very likely impossible to ever dislodge. Republicans/conservatives who think it would be better for us to lose this election so that we can get “a really good candidate” next time are living in a dream world that would quickly turn into a nightmare.

“Villain”, “duplicitous bastard”, “prick”, “a special pile of human excrement” — Andrew Breitbart

  9. Liz says:

I call it transporting their worst traits onto those who disagree….that is why I will never be able to call myself a Democrat, those on the hard left are the epitome of hypocritcal thinking. Sorry to say, even friends of mine. They are blind to it, even when you point it out. If we even breathed the same contempt of one of their own dying, the lash by media and the world would be catastrophy. I refuse to be their little martyr, and that’s why Andrew spoke to me!

  10. James says:

“My prayers go out to Mr. Breitbart’s family as they cope during this very difficult time. I do not intend to make any further comments.” Shirley Sherrod

Compare with Mr. Breibart’s comments on the death of Senator Kennedy (see Zachriel above).

  11. charles says:

And here are some of the terms Breitbart used towards Senator Ten Kennedy following his death: “a special pile of human excrement”, “a villain”, “a prick”, “a big ass motherfucker”. Call it a simple lack of decency on Breitbart’s behalf, but an inability of so many in his camp to deal reasonably with those who disagree is a sign of something very wrong deep-down, something innate in the conservative philosophy that affects thought and behavior. Breitbart was an odious and despicable human being.

  12. Carlos says:

To charles, James and Zach: yes, he was, sometimes.

But on the other hand, he never killed some early-twenties hanger-on bimbo, either, claimed to the contrary, and expected to remain (as he did) in his privileged station for the remainder of his life, rumors of sexual scandals notwithstanding.

I consider the voters of MA as ignorant as the voters of the Bay area that keep foisting the likes of Nancy Pelosy upon the rest of the nation. It’s one thing to disagree ideologically with “the other side” (known to Pelosy and our beloved leader as “the enemy”), but quite another to continually put people into office whose primary function is to destroy everything and everyone that made our nation great.

  13. Brontefan says:

The simple truth is that those who would install a Marxist government to rule over our every move, thought, and desire, are really only interested in establishing a pyramid for them to be at the very top. Hitler was not interested in the common man; our POTUS is not interested in the poor or the middle class. Bill Ayres and his cronies have been working a long time to destroy all that was sacred to us. The truth has to be eliminated for them to succeed. I will miss Andrew terribly.

  14. Bill says:

The least tolerant people on God’s creation are always preaching tolerance. Makes me sick. Just like Muslims, Obama has this insatiable desire to apologize because of a few burnt books but can’t bring himself to demand an apology for dead Americans! So it is without fear that I wish each and ever one of them to go to hell! And to Carlos, who wishes to scold Charles, James and Zach…f you. Breitbart was right to use the left’s rhetoric against themselves! Wake up, grow up and understand who and what the enemy are and does! RIP Breitbart and F YOU progressives, may you all rot in HELL (where you belong). Ask me how I really feel!

  15. Bill says:

Uppps Carlos, seem like I had that one backwards…sorry.

  16. Zachriel says:

    Bill: James and Zach{riel}…f you.

All we did was quote the man.

Carlos: It’s one thing to disagree ideologically with “the other side” (known to Pelosy and our beloved leader as “the enemy”), but quite another to continually put people into office whose primary function is to destroy everything and everyone that made our nation great.

Thank you for making it clear that the standard you apply is a one-way standard.

  17. EBL says:

Breitbart speaks still: Just another guy from the neighborhood… Let the vetting begin!

  18. jussayin' says:

In reading that comment about knowing some decent democrats that would never say such things. That had been my thought, at least up until facebook messages cleared that all up.

There are a number of men and women who are liberals that I count as friends, some are family. The commentary they post on facebook reveal them to be every bit as ugly and intolerant as the Daily Kos or DU type of liberal poster. It is like their political views make them unhinged from reality.

It really is a mental disorder to be a liberal. They spout off rhetoric that doesn’t come close to matching what they say and do when you bring up facts.

The politics has become like a fan like devotion, where reality takes a back seat to “their guy” can do no wrong.

  19. Carlos says:

@Zachriel: “Thank you for making it clear that the standard you apply is a one-way standard.”

Just making a comment about the political extremists running the country, and one that wants to become relevant again by reassuming the House leadership. Can’t say as what I included you, but if the shoe fits…

The people of who continually vote for people like Pelosy (in spite of what she says or does in relation to the country’s best interests), or who vote for Obama simply because they’re afraid they’ll consider themselves raaaaciiiiists for not doing so in spite of his anti-western ideology, cannot be anything except ignorant.

  20. RickS says:

Democrats hate. It’s just what they do. That’s why they founded the KKK twice. It’s why every single villain of the Civil Rights era–Lester Maddox, Orval Faubus, Bull Connor, etc.–were Democrats, just like Zachriel, James, and Charles.

  21. Rob Crawford says:

@Zachriel: “Thank you for making it clear that the standard you apply is a one-way standard.”

Kennedy “reached out” to the Soviets to see how he could help them defeat the US. He was a traitor. What Breitbart said about him was being kind.

  22. Kate says:

Andrew Breitbart pushed back at the liberal left who assumes that conservatives are milquetoasts and will not respond in kind. He Tweeted back at the hate using reason.

RE Ted Kennedy…he brought shame onto himself and his family. Something that the progressives hold their noses about and still promote the myth. Andrew gave him a fitting send off is all.

    Sometimes the truth does hurt.

Simple civiity is all that is required when people pass out of respect for the family….Kennedy got all of that while he lived which was something he didn’t deserve. Andrew was spot on.

  23. Zachriel says:

Rob Crawford: Kennedy “reached out” to the Soviets to see how he could help them defeat the US. He was a traitor. What Breitbart said about him was being kind.

Yes, we understand. It’s a one-way standard. Just checking.
