I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of Obama … huh??

Jeez, and I thought the Creepy Kids’ Choirs were carrying the cult of personality too far:

A Florida Democratic Party outpost has taken down an American flag depicting an image of President Obama after a group of veterans complained that the flag had been desecrated.

The flag was flying underneath an American flag outside the Lake County Democratic Party headquarters. Instead of stars, the blue field featured an image of President Obama’s face.

That infuriated local veterans like Jim Bradford, the office manager at the Veterans Memorial at Fountain Park in nearby Leesburg.

“I couldn’t believe that anybody in their right mind would desecrate the American flag that way,” he told Fox News. “It was disrespectful.”

“It’s a cult of personality to show his face, like Stalin or Mao,” said former Marine John Masterjohn in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel. “It’s despicable. They don’t realize how sick they are.”

Nancy Hurlbert, the chairwoman of the local Democratic Party, removed the flag after a group of veterans staged a protest outside her office.

“We’re proud of our president and we didn’t realize it was in violation,” she told the Orlando Sentinel. “I am the chair and I will take responsibility for this.”

You know what? I believe Ms. Hurlbert when she says she didn’t know this likely constituted desecration.

What bothers me though, is that she didn’t see anything wrong with, in essence, promoting veneration of The Leader. In America, we hold dear the ideas and ideals of our Founding; we respect the offices and the people who hold them, but the officeholders are subordinate to the ideas. We pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States, to what it symbolizes — individual liberty, constitutional government, the rule of law — not to the man or woman who holds the office. When someone joins the military, they swear this oath:

I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

They don’t swear to defend George Washington, FDR, George W. Bush, nor even Barack Obama.

That an official of a major American political party can’t see the real problem is kind of scary.

Well, John, I’m sure you agree that this explains a lot about the Left in our country today.

It is not surprising to me in the least that some democrats are ignorant of proper flag etiquette, either willfully or otherwise.

    Incredible …

  4. gravelagitator says:

The image of DEAR LEADER must be visible to all his subjects in all places. Think Il Duce, Mao, Che ad nauseum.

  5. mike191 says:

Take the ruined flag, fly it upside down, and resign Miss Hurlbert.

  6. rssg says:

Exactly. That this Democrat woman, a grown, adult woman doesn’t understand “cult of peronality” is sad……and scary.

  7. TexasDoc says:

He has officially moved the Democrat Party to the Neo-Stalinist Cult of Personality Party. It’s worse than North Korea. Next thing you know, everybody will be required to carry a little book of O-Stalin’s teleprompter favorites, like the crass, no-class gift of Obama’s speeches on an iPod they gave to Queen Elizabeth II. Trailer park manners with champagne and wagyu beef extravagance…absolutely zero class.

  8. Carlos says:

So they desecrated a flag over him. Heck, he desecrated the office the first day he was there! Seems to me that’s more important, but I’m just a country boy so what could I possibly know?

What bothers me is that we have already become a communist nation for all intents and purposes and most people simply don’t realize it. Look at all Obama has done and is still doing, with absolutely no objection from either side of the aisle. The violations of our Constitution by this President scream for Impeachment. He writes Executive Orders while he’s eating breakfast. Ten new ones every day. He doesn’t need Congress and has stated his contempt for Congress many times since taking office. His picture on a flag doesn’t bother me actually. His picture is a joke wherever it appears. I can do that myself in Photoshop. No, what bothers me is what he is doing to this country and our Constitution. That’s not PhotoShop. That’s real. And it’s no joke.

    It actually makes perfect sense.

Francis Bellamy, the author of the Pledge, was a former Baptist minister who preached that Jesus was a socialist and advocated income taxation, central banking, nationalized education, nationalization of industry, and other tenets of socialism. His challenge was how to replace the federalist view of the country (where states and individual rights were sovereign) with a nationalist one that would pave the foundation for a central socialist government.

The “one nation, indivisible” wording was especially important to Bellamy for achieving his vision of socialism through a consolidated, monopoly government. He even considered adding the the socialist bywords, “fraternity and equality”, but knew that state superintendents of education on his committee were against equality for women and African Americans.

Re-education of the public would prove difficult. But if American youth could to be taught “loyalty to the state”, it would pave the way for the socialist utopia that was described in his famous socialist cousin Edward Bellamy’s ‘Looking Backward”. The place to start would need to be primary education. The public schools could be used teach blind obedience to the central state. They planned a “National Public School Celebration” in 1892, which was the first national propaganda campaign on behalf of the Pledge of Allegiance. It was a massive campaign that involved government schools and politicians throughout the country. The government schools were promoted, along with the Pledge, while private schools, especially parochial ones, were criticized.

Students were taught to recite the Pledge with their arms outstretched, palms up. This was the custom in American public schools from the turn of the twentieth century until around 1950, when it was apparently decided by public school officials that the Nazi-like salute was in bad taste.

If you want to see what the original vision of indoctrination looked like go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellamy_salute. If that doesn’t give you pause…

Add the face of the leader and your socialist state is ready to go. Too bad “under God” in the Pledge is the last foothold of Christians in the public schools so otherwise patriotic conservatives are compelled to support the kind of government imposed indoctrination, they would ordinarily be railing against.

    There’s a flag I’d cheerfully burn.

  13. Tom TB says:

I wouldn’t burn it, but I’d fly it upside down as a sign of distress!

  14. Tex says:

The level of cult of personality practiced by Obama-ites is absolutely frightening.

Obama’s silence about this affair speaks volumes, doesn’t it?
