#Benghazi Consulate Massacre: Petraeus throws Obama under the bus

I’ve said before the intelligence community will not play the sap for Obama. And now The Weekly Standard reports (via JWF) that CIA Director Petraeus has thrown his boss under the bus:

Breaking news on Benghazi: the CIA spokesman, presumably at the direction of CIA director David Petraeus, has put out this statement: “No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate. ”

As Bill Kristol writes, the decision to do nothing in Benghazi had to have been a presidential decision. (If not, that has its own scary implications.)

This is unraveling fast. You can bet more will come out before the election.

The spooks won’t play the sap.

  1. ST says:

    Thank you, director Petraeus.

  2. SiGraybeard says:

I had a hard time believing it was Petraeus because he has always come across as an honorable man. Matt Bracken, who was a SEAL, says in these instances of cross-border “attacks”, only the Commander in Chief can authorize the full up raid. And Obama went to bed.

The inescapable conclusion was that Obama wanted Stevens killed (or didn’t care if he was – same thing from Stevens’ standpoint). We don’t quite know why, but can guess it had to do with the admin running guns to Al Qaeda. “Fast and Furious – Syrian Edition”

I am SO tired of the lies from this administration. I can’t wait till someone breaks and tells the truth…not worrying about what will happen to them. FOUR American’s were murdered and the American people deserve the truth and an honest president.

  4. Sefton says:

SiGraybeard, I’d heard another theory was that Obama was conspiring with the Muslim Brotherhood (he talks with them enough) in a planned attack on the consulate that would end with the kidnap of Stevens and allow for “negotiations” to take place that would result in the release of the Blind Sheik as a trade for Stevens.

Whether it was this or Libyan gun running, Obama played with the devil and got burned.

  5. Petraeus’ credibility, or lack thereof, is the one thing about him I severely question due to the fact days after the Benghazi attack he was still clinging to the narrative about the video being the root cause of the violence.

  6. Steel Turman says:

Zippy was in bed and sound asleep when most of it went down.

That leaves two people who could have made the call …

    … PIAPS or Valerie Jarrett.

    My money’s on VJ.

But maybe PIAPS was really taking the blame the other day.

Maybe she was the one who told them to ‘stand down’.

It doesn’t matter one whit …

… the Commander-in-Chief was in bed fast asleep.

That is the crime in all of this …

… POTUS voted ‘Present’ once again.

  7. Carlos says:

Considering how much of a politician one must be to become head of the Joint Chiefs (and head of the CIA), I’m amazed Petraeus had the gumption to make the denial, leaving his emperor without clothes one more time.

BTW, when will all the congressional “investigations” into this whole mess take place? After the elections, obviously, but before the new POTUS is sworn in? Seems that would let Zero off scot-free if he loses, and able to dance away scot-free if he wins because, Lord knows, Slo Joe will issue an executive pardon faster than Gerry Ford did for the other provable thief/liar that disgraced the office so badly.

Also, has Slo Joe been connected to any of this coverup in a meaningful way, or was he (literally) left in the dark for plausible deniability reasons (as if he could understand what was going on to begin with!)?

  9. “Around 8 a.m., I received the Presidential Daily Briefing. The PDB, which combined highly classified intelligence with in-dpth analysis of geopolitics, was one of the most fascinating parts of my day.”–George W. Bush, “Decision Points” (2010), p. 126

  10. TexasMom2012 says:

So, Obama’s latest “Gutsy Call!” was, sorry I need to hit the sack because I have to fly to Vegas, baby, in the morning. Let me know via a copy of the Daily Briefing tomorrow on Air Force One how all this turns out. Oh, if it goes ill for the Americans, find me a good excuse to cover this up because dude election in less than two months! G’nite all!

    There are no words.

  11. Zachriel says:

No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate.

Sigh. Here’s a more complete quote from CIA spokeswoman Jennifer Youngblood:

We can say with confidence that the Agency reacted quickly to aid our colleagues during that terrible evening in Benghazi. Moreover, no one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate. In fact, it is important to remember how many lives were saved by courageous Americans who put their own safety at risk that night-and that some of those selfless Americans gave their lives in the effort to rescue their comrades.

When they have to quote-mine to support their point of view, it means you should be skeptical of what information you are being provided.

  12. @Zachariel–You’re groping.

  13. Steph says:

@Sefton – I read something similar myself. The story was that the ambassador was to be kidnapped and O would be a hero to exchange Stevens for the “blind sheik”. If this is so, it obviously went very wrong and, like cats covering their (you know), they are all busy trying to cover it up. I too am very tired of the lies and I cannot stomach O. He is no more presidential than I am – wait, I think I am more presidential than he is! :) Just kidding but the wimp is not a leader but a narcissistic pathological liar and a spoiled brat.

  14. Zachriel says:

    Drew the Infidel

Providing the context for the quote is not “groping”, and the context contradicts the original contention.

  15. Carlos says:

“…and that some of those selfless Americans gave their lives in the effort to rescue their comrades.”

It’s probably important to remember, contrary to the implication here that the CIA help that did respond under orders to do so, that the responding CIA personnel did so contrary to orders to “stand down,” something that has apparently been established now.

Obfuscation is all this administration has to play with now. About this, about the economy, about ObamaCare, about taxes and taxing the middle class and poor, about everything, because they and the Democrats, especially those Democrats in the Senate, have been such abject failures.
