The Boston Bombers’ finances and their bombs

Via Money Jihad, here’s what’s publicly known of their resources:

  • U.S. News reports that “The larger Tsarnaev family ended up living on public assistance in Cambridge, Mass,” which in context of the article was probably around 2010.
  • Dzhokhar Tsarnaev received a $2,500 scholarship from the city of Cambridge in May 2011 to pursue higher education.
  • Tamerlan Tsarnaev was unemployed, but his wife, Katherine Russell, was working long hours as a home health care aide.  During their last conversation, Tamerlan told his uncle that he fixes cars, but he did not say whether he was earning wages.
  • Patimat Suleimanova, the Tsarnaev brothers’ aunt, said that “the brothers had stumbled upon money problems” in 2012, and that their father Anzor Tsarnaev “would send money from here when he could.”
  • Dzhokhar Tsarnaev withdrew $800 from Bank of America an ATM card stolen from the Tsarnaev’s carjacking victim on the night of April 18.

This isn’t unbelievable to me: none of their bomb components were all that expensive (that I know of). It’s possible they were living off occasional work, the wife’s income, public assistance, and handouts from relatives, even for Tamerlan’s flight to Russia.

But one thing nagging at me are the bombs themselves. Here’s an explanation of how they work. They’re by no means expensive, so I’m willing to accept that the Tsarnaevs obtained the parts with their own resources, but… First-time bomb-builders making electronic triggers and doing everything right, including safely transporting them? Seems a stretch. It’s almost a given that they practiced making these and tested the devices somewhere.

But where? Was it on private land, concealed from prying eyes? If so, who gave them access? If not, how did no one notice?

It seems to me that, although the surviving brother has asserted they worked alone, they almost had to have help building and testing the devices, themselves.

I have heard rumors that the Saudi kid was financing these acts. That’s why he was there he apparently wanted to see 1st hand the chaos his money paid for. – Lorica

Nothing fits. Tamerlan lived way beyond his means what with a Mercedes, flashy clothes, and the rest. Like “Deep Throat” (R. Mark Felt) of Watergate fame said, “Follow the money”.

Compare two current cases. Similar to Tsarnaev, Evan Ebel, the ex-con who murdered the CO prison cheif, was driving a Cadillac shortly after going on parole. How is that possible? Both had weapons they were prohibited by law from possessing; Tsarnaev because of a domestic violence incident and Ebel as a convicted felon. And the media is not the least bit curious. WTF?

And to top it all off, even out in the middle of a desert (which, as I understand it and can see looking at a topography map of the MA area of the United States, are few and far between there) the “boom” of a bomb is still heard quite some distance away from the blast. Combine that with the fact dozens of people have hearing injuries because of the bombs we know about and ya gotta come to the conclusion someone, somewhere heard explosions of the test bombs.

I thought for the last few years coverups and lies from D.C. couldn’t get any worse. I’m re-evaluating that thought.

  4. Neo says:

I think the world has had enough of people who have no belief system, no policy for jobs, no policy for education, no policy for rule of law, but who just want to kill people because they don’t like what they see.”

Did John Kerry just say that Muslims have “no belief system” ?

  5. Carlos says:

He wasn’t referring to religious beliefs, Neo, he was referring to those neanderthal extremists who don’t believe in an all-knowing, all-controlling government.

And don’t believe elitists and academics have all the answers.

The problem is, the body count in Boston wasn’t high enough. Look at it this way – Barry got away clean with 13 dead at Fort Hood. And he paid no price for the Benghazi cover up. The White House minions were pushing the ‘lone wolf’ story from the get-go, and with media help, it appears they’ll get away with it. The conclusion is that it will take an event involving substantially more deaths before this administration is forced to abandon its “nothing to see here; move on!” jive. And even then I am not so sure….

Some people really don’t want to know the full extent of this planned mission of carnage. They want to go back to their nice little false reality…that Islam is the religion of peace and these guys were just unhappy bad guys acting out because they felt bullied by Americans. It’s all so easy to live in DENIAL!

…and FYI I can hear a rifle shot a mile away at the gun range. I can’t imagine hearing a bomb go off where there is no chance of that happening under normal circumstances and not asking questions!
