OBL and the spiked cocaine plot

Posted by: Sister Toldjah on July 26, 2005 at 7:14 am

The NY Post is reporting this morning that a year after 9-11, OBL attempted to buy massive amounts of cocaine, spike it with poison, and sell it in hopes of killing a massive amount of Americans:

The evil plot failed when the Colombian drug lords bin Laden approached decided it would be bad for their business – and, possibly, for their own health, according to law-enforcement sources familiar with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s probe of the aborted transaction. The feds were told of the scheme earlier this year, but its existence had never been made public. The Post has reviewed a document detailing the DEA’s findings in the matter, in addition to interviewing sources familiar with the case.

More:

Although the drug lords would have reaped millions of dollars in profits by selling the cocaine to bin Laden, they knew that if his plan succeeded it might effectively destroy the market for their coke in America for years, sources said.

But that was only one reason they declined bin Laden’s offer.

The other was their fear of retaliation from the U.S. government once its citizens started to die from the drugs, according to sources.

Hmmm. This may seem a little too obvious to ask but aren’t people *already* dying from cocaine abuse? I guess the drug lords are ok with several thousand deaths a year rather than hundreds of thousands. Let’s be thankful that for one time in their miserable pathetic lives, the drug lords made the right decision.

    1. Reminds me of the time that somebody at a bar wanted to bum a smoke from me. I had a pack of generic cigarettes and he declinded to accept the smoke. Since it was a generic smoke, he did not know what was really in it. Implying a health concern. What kind of smoker objects to a brand of cigarettes for health reasons?

At the risk of sounding callous, wouldn’t this be Osama helping us to aome extent? It is hard for me to have much sympathy for the plight of a cocain user given that they knowingly risk death with every use. They often cause misery for people around them, both known and unknown to them. They know it is illegal and they know it carries a risk, from what I understand that is part of the thrill of it.

      ST: Good question! ;)
