I hope this isn’t true

Please, someone tell me this is just a nightmare and that I’ll wake up in the morning to find that this story doesn’t exist:

ANTI-WAR PROTESTERS TARGET WOUNDED AT ARMY HOSPITAL
Wed Aug 2005 24 21:20:05 ET

Anti-war protestors besieged wounded and disabled soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C, a new web report will claim!

CNSNews.com is planning to run an expose on Thursday featuring interviews with both protestors and veterans, as well as shots of protest signs with slogans like “Maimed for a Lie.”

The conservative outlet will post video evidence of the wounded veterans being taunted by protesters, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Developing late…

*Shudders.*

I’m going to take a wait-and-see approach with this and wait for the link to be posted at CNSNEWS so I can see it for myself.  I don’t want to think crap like this happens in our country …. yes, I know that’s idealistic but hey, a gal can dream, can’t she?

Thursday morning update: Here’s the link to the story.  The link to the video is also on that page.  I’ve not had a chance to look at it because my time on the computer is limited at the moment.  I’ll check it out a little later this morning when I have some more time.

Update II: I can’t seem to pull up the video this morning – probably for the best that I can’t :(

Related:  Please help Seattle police find three men who severely beat up two Iraq war veterans.  (Before anyone asks, I should note that the crime doesn’t appear to have anything to do with disagreements about the war.) KOMO reports:

SEATTLE – Two soldiers who just returned from a year in Iraq were badly beaten in an attack outside Pioneer Square. But believe it or not, someone caught the beating on videotape. Now, police are asking for your help identifying the suspects.

The brutality of it all was captured on tape outside of Larry’s Nightclub on First and Yesler on July 31.

Police say the victims were with two women who’d been groped by the suspects. One of the women threw a hot dog at the suspects and walked away.

Police say the victims were with two women who’d been groped by the suspects. One of the women threw a hot dog at the suspects and walked away.

They didn’t get very far. The three suspects ran after them and began attacking the two men — two soldiers who’d come home from the war.

The graphic videotape shows both victims getting beaten over and over again, and then after one of the victims loses consciousness, a suspect starts stomping on his head.

Hat tip to Captain Ed, who has screen caps of the suspects posted and the contact info for the Seattle PD.

Thurs. afternoon update: A reader has informed me that a members of the DC Chapter of the Free Republic have been counter-protesting the shameless anti-war protestors at Walter Reed hospital and says these protests (and counter protests) have actually been going on for several months.  (Hat tip: Jay)

    1. ‘It’ can happen; ‘it’ does happen.

      Fred Phelps.

    2. Looks like the story is true.

      Blech.

    3. Mr Lace says:

When you meet the typical lefty who says ” I support the troops but not the war” ask him or her if they think this protest outside the hospital is dispicable.

    4. Shooter says:

The attack on two vets in Seattle may or may not be war related but the taunting and jeering of war-wounded in DC certainly is!!!
Liberals are obviously trying a repeat of Vietnam where the war was lost at home, not on the battlefield!
Liberals are, without exception, treasonous, anti-American, low-life scum and always have been since FDR!!! They spat on returning soldiers in the 60′s and haven’t changed one bit.
(Sorry for holding back my real feelings, I must be getting sensitive in my old age)

    5. I think the “typical lefty” would be and IS outraged about this, Lace.

    6. ArizonaTeach says:

…as long as the typical lefty doesn’t post on DU or Kos.

…and as time goes by I’m more and more convinced those ARE representative.

BTW, did you get my report on the Move America Forward rally in Phoenix?

    7. Hi AT – was hoping you’d check in soon as I was wanting to read a recap of the rally … no, I didn’t get the report from you. Did you email it? If so, I just checked my e and there’s nothing in there from you. If you attempted to post it in the comments, I didn’t see anything in the moderation cue so would you email it to me as well and I can repost it?

Edited to add: I just sent you an email using the email addy you supplied for posting … just lettin’ ya know.

    8. ArizonaTeach says:

Eep! Yeah, sounds like the comment gremlin took hold of my report! I’ll send another one out this evening. It was a real eye-opener, let me tell you! Easily 300 people crammed into this parking lot and restaurant…and maybe a dozen protestors who were in over their heads…You can read the local paper’s take here.

    9. ArizonaTeach says:

Actually, you can’t read it there, because I don’t know how to post it right…!

    10. Sorry about that, AT! I’ve modified things so that shouldn’t happen again (wishing, hoping, praying …). Thanks for the AZ Central link. I especially loved this part:

The largely pro-war crowd of about 300 cheered when Deborah Johns, the California woman organizing the caravan against Sheehan, pulled into Arriba Mexican Grill just before 6 p.m.

“Continue to step to the plate with me and let our voice roar like thunder,” Johns told the crowd. “We need to let the liberals know that we’re not going away.”

      Yeah!

    11. sam says:

      “Maimed for a Lie.”

And somehow this will get spun as being unsupportive of the soldiers.

    12. Protesting against the war, telling the soldiers in the hospital who are recovering from war injuries that they have those injuries because of a “lie” IS unsupportive.

This is so inappropriate that I can’t believe anyone would support it. Do you?

    13. sam says:

” telling the soldiers in the hospital who are recovering from war injuries that they have those injuries because of a “lie” IS unsupportive.”

It’s unsupportive of the guy who sent them there to get hurt, and for how it was done. But to be concerned that people are getting hurt for a lie is to support them. Pretty simple really. Why else would you care that they got hurt for a lie? If you didn’t care about them in the first place, it wouldn’t matter what they got hurt for, lie or truth.

    14. That makes absolutely no sense.

Sam, you are flat out wrong here. It shouldn’t even have to be explained. It’s just one of those things you just expect people to “get.” Our troops are trying to RECOVER in the hospital from war injuries sustained in Afghanistan and OIF. You don’t “support” our trooops by screaming outside their windows that they were injured for a “lie.” I’ll tell you right now, if I were a family member and I walked out of WR Hospital and some nut screamed at me that my dad/brother/sister/cousin, etc died for a “lie” and also threw out some other anti-war nonsense, they’d hear from me with a verbal smackdown the likes they’d never seen before. You DO NOT do this. Protest somewhere else.

    15. sam says:

      “That makes absolutely no sense.”

Only someone who cares for the troops cares that they got hurt for a lie.

“You don’t “support” our trooops by screaming outside their windows that they were injured for a “lie.” ”

I didn’t read about anyone screaming this. Just signs.

    16. “Only someone who cares for the troops cares that they got hurt for a lie.”

That’s not so. This is not about “caring for the troops” to the more radical elements of the left. It’s about despising the President and doing whatever possible to undermine the mission we’re trying to accomplish in the WOT.

“I didn’t read about anyone screaming this. Just signs. ”

Are you seriously implying these were silent protests?

    17. sam says:

“It’s about despising the President and doing whatever possible to undermine the mission we’re trying to accomplish in the WOT.”

I agree that having people get maimed for a lie is a bad way to accomplish a mission in the WOT.

“Are you seriously implying these were silent protests? ”

I’m going by — rather explicitly, and not implicitly — what you quoted. It talked about a sign. It didn’t talk about screaming.

It did say “besieged” but I think its probably more like a gathering of people at 1 of the many entrances to walter reed: a huge facility in Northwest DC. Now slated for closure actually.

    18. Phil Jungbluth says:

These protesters are pawns, mindless slug pawns to be sure, but pawns nevertheless. There are those that are better organized, and well financed who manipulate these low-life PINK demonstrators to harass our soldiers, our president and others in our government with one goal in mind and that is to get a wet noodle back in the White House. Since before the last election they have worked to confuse the issues, disregarding the truths, and twisting the proofs until they dupe the gullible amongst us. And unfortunately the MSM is a willing participant in misleading the american public. So daily you have these anti-war protesters in places like Walter Reed Hospital, mindless dupes like Cindy Sheehan demonstrating in Crawford, Texas, and the media that rolls out the body count and highlight the funerals of our military day in and day out. It’s amazing the press Sheehan has received. Daily they report on this ORGANIZED demonstration. As far as I’m concerned this woman has lost her right to be heard. Her son no doubt would be embarrassed and ashamed at her disgusting language and protests. He died for what he believed in, he even re-enlisted knowing that he would return to Iraq. And what does she do, she spits on his memory. Nice mom.

    19. WalMartialLaw says:

      Phil,

I am sure that no one here cares what nasty and stupid remarks you make about Mrs. Sheehan. But you have absolutely no right to speak about her slain son. There is no honor in assuming the political position of a dead soldier. Leave her son Casey out of your diatribe. If you don’t like her politics then get in line.

But don’t think for a second that you have the right to speak for someone who gave their life for your freedom. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. Edited for insult. Keep cool, Wal. –ST

    20. Phil Jungbluth says:

Wal, You’re right. I can’t speak for the dead. That was not my intention. I’m just fed up with all the hate and lying. Mostly I’m fed up with all the extremist protest groups. And both liberal’s and conservatives have their dingbat extremists. I for one would dearly like the media to pay a whole lot less attention to them. That said, I realize that ain’t gonna happen. I wonder what the “crowd size” would look like if they just zoomed the camera’s out. The reason our soldiers die is the politicians influenced by the press tie one hand behind their collective backs. You want to protest, protest the press. We have a war. Let’s execute it the best we know how, than get our people home.

    21. Sam: “I agree that having people get maimed for a lie is a bad way to accomplish a mission in the WOT.”

That’s not happening here. How many times do we have to go over this?

“I’m going by — rather explicitly, and not implicitly — what you quoted. It talked about a sign. It didn’t talk about screaming.

I’m going by — rather explicitly, and not implicitly — what you quoted. It talked about a sign. It didn’t talk about screaming.”

I don’t give a fig whether it was silent or not. It is WRONG! My God, can you not see this for what it is??

    22. sam says:

‘I don’t give a fig whether it was silent or not. It is WRONG! My God, can you not see this for what it is??’

certainly. I see people expressing their concern that soldiers are getting hurt and maimed for an incompently run lie.

For some, this hurts so much they have to shut it out.

    23. I don’t think so. It amazes me how off the sense of right and wrong is with some people. I can’t even comprehend why you’d approve of this but I’m happy to say that most of my liberal friends see this for what it is: WRONG on the most basic of levels, no qualifiers needed. Do you hate the President so much that you can’t see when something people who feel the same as you do do is wrong?

    24. sam says:

” Do you hate the President so much that you can’t see when something people who feel the same as you do do is wrong?”

I don’t think its wrong for people who believe that soldiers are maimed for a lie to express that view in a manner that is effective. And some people just cant’ handle that.

    25. “I don’t think its wrong for people who believe that soldiers are maimed for a lie to express that view in a manner that is effective. And some people just cant’ handle that.”

What people *can’t handle* is rudeness and disrespect. Obviously some people’s standards for decency are lower than others, though.

    26. sam says:

“What people *can’t handle* is rudeness and disrespect. Obviously some people’s standards for decency are lower than others, though. ”

I think its quite decent for those who are troubled that soldiers are being maimed for a lie speak their concerns to that effect.

    27. And I think I’ve had enough of your trolling, Sam.
