Glenn Reynolds discusses an Alito case regarding abortion and spousal notification that is already garnering a lot of attention . Jason Smith takes us back in time to a paper he wrote on this very topic back in 1998: In the Name of the Father: Recognition of Men’s Reproductive Rights – a major must-read.

I’d Say more needs to be said of his decision on the Family and Medical Leave Act — he was overturned by Rehnquist there. It puts him in the mold of the pro-business, anti-family conservatives.
Men have rights?
Maybe I’ll realize that later. I’ve spent over $130,000 of money that I don’t have (borrowing against my house) trying to be a SHARED parent (with joint custody) of my two daughters 6 and 9. This divorce battle has lasted longer than the marriage of 4 years that my ex-wife was the one who decided to terminate.
1) When analyzed I as the father scored markedly better on the parenting skills test given by the 730 evaluator.
2) The kids when analyzed reported no abuse by either parent to the 730 evaluator
3) On the tests the kids showed no signs of negative incoming or outgoing feelings towards either parent
4) The kids did report that the mother spanks them.
5) Ex-wife has had an over decade history of depression and has been taking prescription drugs for the problem.
I could go on. But I’m not looking for a pity party. Just want to emphasize here that the OUTCOME was that she was given sole custody and I only see the children every OTHER Saturday and Sunday.
Money was not the guarantor of rights. Neither was facts. I would welcome a person like Alito with open arms and tears. For all that I’ve gone through in the last 4 years.
I don’t have regrets though. For the last 4 years I’ve lived in peace, and have a home that doesn’t look like a tornado hit anymore. My kids and I spend quality time together going to festivals, children’s plays, (Disney on Ice this weekend), decorating making arts and crafts, going to the park, cooking, etc.
Life is good but I’d like to see the courts be responsive to the facts.
Just like any profession (like journalists) there are lazy judges and lawyers who don’t do due diligence and are negligent.
Journalists will repeat things without fact checking. As in the 5 month long lying about Republicans cutting Medicare by 270 billion in 1995. As in journalists repeating Joe Wilson’s lie for over a year.
And what does all of this lying reap? Defensiveness and/or ignoring the attacker? It also reaps a bunch of people feeling hate for the person(s) who is attacked because people believe the attacks without doing the due diligence themselves.
