Howard Dean is not getting the job done

He couldn’t get the presidential nomination last year from Democrats, and he’s time so far as the head of the DNC hasn’t been very fruitful either. Via the Washington Post:

The Democratic National Committee under Howard Dean is losing the fundraising race against Republicans by nearly 2 to 1, a slow start that is stirring concern among strategists who worry that a cash shortage could hinder the party’s competitiveness in next year’s midterm elections.

The former Vermont governor and presidential candidate took the chairmanship of the national party eight months ago, riding the enthusiasm of grass-roots activists who relished his firebrand rhetorical style. But he faced widespread misgivings from establishment Democrats, including elected officials and Washington operatives, who questioned whether Dean was the right fit in a job that traditionally has centered on fundraising and the courting of major donors.

Now, the latest financial numbers are prompting new doubts. From January through September, the Republican National Committee raised $81.5 million, with $34 million remaining in the bank. The Democratic National Committee, by contrast, showed $42 million raised and $6.8 million in the bank.

“The degree to which the fundraising has not been competitive is obviously troublesome,” said former congressman Vic Fazio (D-Calif.), who is now a lobbyist here. He expressed confidence in Tom McMahon, Dean’s executive director at the DNC.

One House Democratic leadership aide, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to preserve relations with Dean’s operation, put it more bluntly: “There is plenty of time, but the red flashing sirens should be going off there.”

Uh, they should have been going off long before now.

It makes sense that the corrupt, greedy and crony filled Republican Party would believe that the measure of success is the picking of the most pockets for cash. All the money in the world will not get you Christian warmongers off the hook. Can you see the crowd with their torches and pitchforks gathering? Peace

Ultimately, it won’t matter. The 527s will fund the DNC as they did last time around, thanks to people like George Sorros. Democrats will likely outspend Republicans this time around once again (not that it will do much good–it didn’t last time).

At least I can defend the war, due to the FACT tha Sadamn murdered Hundreds of Thousands of his one people, and we know where many of those Mass Graves are. But you with 1 comment prove you are a hipocrite. I worry not about what liberals think of me. You are the ones that refuse to take into account all the evidence. And trust me if there are any parties filled with corruption or greed and Cronies it is the one that is lead by a man named Clinton. – Lorica

    Ha, ha!

  8. steve says:

The solution to the mess in which Americans find themselves, is to vote out All incumbents 12 months from now. Is that bipartisan enough? Peace

  9. Baklava says:

 I agree whole-heartedly with Steve. We should vote out all incumbents with BRAND NEW representatives and Senators (all conservatives). This country has oved to the left every year for over 60 years straight. It’s about time we actually got some non-leftists in office. Maybe we should actually vote someone in that is to the right such as libertarians (they want an 80% cut in government). I can just see liberals screaming now!

  10. Steve, it’s not all about money, but money helps pay for the advertising that helps win elections. If you don’t have a motivating party leader who inspires people to give money to the cause, the party will lag behind in fundraising.

    Understand now?

steve, we will not surrender to your fearmongering. You wouldn’t be so bold if we shot rioters starting in 92 in Los Angeles.
