Pelosi hails Democrats’ ‘diverse’ Iraq stances

Posted by: Sister Toldjah on December 16, 2005 at 12:34 pm

IOW, an endorsement of an official ‘non-position’ on Iraq going into the 2006 elections:

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said yesterday that Democrats should not seek a unified position on an exit strategy in Iraq, calling the war a matter of individual conscience and saying differing positions within the caucus are a source of strength for the party.

Pelosi said Democrats will produce an issue agenda for the 2006 elections but it will not include a position on Iraq. There is consensus within the party that President Bush has mismanaged the war and that a new course is needed, but House Democrats should be free to take individual positions, she sad.

“There is no one Democratic voice . . . and there is no one Democratic position,” Pelosi said in an interview with Washington Post reporters and editors.

Now that’s a position of strength in the war on terror if I’ve ever seen one.

Not.

Well, at least they have finally said what we have known all along – they have no plan and do not want one. Gotta give them a point for finally being honest.8-|

If Pelosi was honest, she’d have waived a white flag during her entire newsconference.

Your right. I take back the point.

Somehow I doubt that Ms. Pelosi has owned anything white (that she could turn into a flag) for many, many years:-"

And that, my friends, is why we don’t need to worry too much about the Democrats winning elections for the foreseeable future.

Well this leftie thinks Rep Pelosi should’ve kept her trap shut. Commenting that it’s ok for us to bitch and moan won’t go down well with the american public when the troops are in harm’s way. Blast holes in the 43 admin’s screw up’s ……. not that well if they have a bad day in Iraq we’ll blast the whole campign. Not real smart.

In a democracy the common folk get to discuss what we want to do as a group. When we reach a consensus we act. If we discover that the decision we made was wrong we debate again, reach a new consensus and act. And so on and so on and so on. Good Americans can have honest differences of opinion especially when war is the topic. Peace

Nice post Steve, except the United States isn’t a democracy, or is that news to you?

This is NOT a democracy. This is a representative republic. Our representatives took up the issue and only 1% voted the way you want (for troop withdrawal)

Good Americans can have honest differences as you say – unfortunately you call us neo cons and warmongerers (even though we want peace not defeat – as giving up our arms woulddo)

So their position is that they have no position. Sure, why not, it isn’t like we’re talking about anything significant here.

Why stop there, though? Why is Iraq the only item on the national agenda that the Dems refuse to have a position on? Their slogan ought to be “We have no idea what we stand for, and we feel very strongly about that!”

After all, that’s what America is all about, right? Okay, so I don’t believe it is, but if one of the two major political parties adopts that stance, then a goodly proportion of the population must be ready to fight to the death for the right to not make a decision.

What I am curious about most is where does this new Democratic guidance leave people like Lieberman.

      Memo to Nancy Pelosi:

Sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut, but more often it just stumbles aimlessly arround until it’s hit by a car.

Not a winning strategy for 2006 and 2008.

Have fun rearranging the Titanic’s deck chairs.

      Jack.

    13. - Hmmmmm….. sounds more and more that what we’ve all suspected for some time has happened. The “Big Tent” has completely collapsed on its wingnut denizens.

      - I suspect that somewhere in a dessert bunker Bin Laden is wondering to himself why he ever bothered to start a shooting war at all. Just lobby and finance the Democratic party and let them take it from there.

    14. Kevin says:

      This just …

Pelosi says, “We will wait until a few weeks before the Nov 2006 elections, and see what the polls say. Our position will be whatever the majority is saying at that time.”

      Developing…

I can’t find the link right now, but I’m pretty sure that’s what she said. :)
