Unhappy Dems
Be sure to check out my latest post at Blogs For Bush where I discuss the recent poll done by Quinnipiac University where 45% of Democrats surveyed said 2005 was a worse year for them than 2004 (and only 41% said the year was better).
Not that it’s a surprise that there are a lot of unhappy Dems out there, ya know ….

Let’s speculate on what would make them happy
For the first guess, I’ll say:
1) Confiscation of wealth from the wealthy. No more will there be wealthy in this country.
OK Bak, I’ll play along. But this is too easy.
2) Impeach Bush.
No matter how many times I see and hear this, do they fail to realize Cheney would step up to run the show? He makes them just as unhappy. (see where I am going with this?)
NOTHING will make the Democrats happy. Even when they get what they mouth off for, they are unhappy and have to blame others for their unhappiness. Sounds like a textbook case of mental illness to me.
tommy, I can’t fathom how you are so misinformed. Katrina exposed not only the corruption of the Louisana Democrat party, the incompetance of Mayor Nagin and Gov. Blanco, but the laziness and incompetance of the press.
Why do you blame the GOP for the Lousiana state government’s screwups? It wasn’t the GOP that stopped Red Cross relief supplies going to the shelters, it was Blanco’s flunkies, and there were several articles poste here for you to reference if you weren’t so biaed and too rigid to read them.

1) Please let all of us know if the Louisiana governor or New Orleans Mayor had any responsibility in your mind.
2) You actually believe that the Republican party is incompetent and the Democrat party is competent?
3) Do you see that government dependency IS the problem at all? New Orleans residents were supposed to receive their checks and stayed in the city for that reason. They were asked. They answered. You ignored. Your obsession isn’t letting you see straight. After a disaster you are coming here and ACTUALLY faulting the G.O.P. when there is plenty of blame to go around INCLUDING to the people of New Orleans who didn’t listen to the LATE evacuation order. Again. Big government was the problem.
4) Want to know how else big government was the problem? It was stepping on each other’s toes. Louisiana governor and Bush was in Air Force One and as reported by Mayor Nagin Governor Blanco couldn’t decide on who would be in charge and wouldn’t decide for more than 24 hours. Nagin was beside himself. Bush couldn’t take over the effort going on.
5) American Red Cross managed by FEMA tried to deliver supplies to Convention Center people multiple times but were denied by the Louisiana Department of Health Services.
6) Nobody on the conservative side is saying that the DISASTER relief was perfect. We are saying that you are obsessed and make INACCURATE accusations. THAT is YOUR pattern.
What would make you happy?
Speculation # 3) If the Republican party dissappeared as they were non-existant essentially from 1940-1994. Why didn’t all problems get solved then? Did they just crop up after 1994? No.
Also, Did Mike Brown have the authority to order the evacuation of New Orleans??? Noooooo That was Ray Nagin’s job, which He didn’t do. Instead of using the equipment and people on hand he just let these people stay where they were. The evacuation of NO should of started 48 hours before Katrina made landfall. You could of had a majority of those people out. I remember the Saturday night before Katrina hit, Fox News was doing Man on the Street interviews with people drinking daquiris, not at all concerned that a Cat 5 hurricane was coming toward them. It is the job of Nagin to get those people out, period. Things would of been alot better had an evacuation been called sooner. Just look at Mississippi. Did Buloxi have the problems that New Orleans had??? No. Why?? They started to actually evacuate people. Hats off to Haley Barbour. – Lorica

Katrina showed the corruption of the entire system. Which is why the Democrats are morphing into the Peace party and shedding their neo-con warmongers like Lieberman. When bush is impeached Cheney goes as well, thats the law. So we get Hastert who can preside over a care-taker government for a few years. Peace

They want us to tell them they are right even though they keep saying incorrect things.
While I won’t go so far as calling for 43’s impeachment steve is right when he says the whole system is corrupt. Katrins proved exactly what’s wrong with how all branches of government operate. You simply have too many politicans in both parties who could care less about their constituents. Making money,pandering to special interests, a clueless immigration policy,etc,etc,etc is the way this gov’t has been operating. At least Clinton had a clue in getting a balanced budget and looking about john q taxpayer with the FMLA act and ADA act and trying at least on enviromental issues. This current president seems to me like he’s in over his head as he wastes his time talking about Social security reform and for the amazement that McCain had to fight tooth and nail to make sure that our troops aren’t running around doing stupid stuff like what happened in Abu Grahib.
tommy, Clinton did not balance a budget, not even with his massive tax increases. It was in 1995 with SPENDING REDUCTIONS by the GOP House that balanced the budget. Clinton fought against people keeping more of their money.

And you want more government? Seems to me you should be clamoring on the right for less government. Trust me. I work in it here in CA. It is twice as bloated as it should be. Too many incompetent people doing nothing and yet clamoring about their importance come time for justifying their existence during budget problem years. Arnold has cut NOTHING. Budgets in his governorship have INCREASED. Yet the unions lie and propogandize and get the sheople to vote with them and against Arnold and they actually believe Arnold’s cutting their budgets, pay, retirement as if he’s a dictator who doesn’t sign what comes out of the Democrat Legislature here in CA.
Corrupt. Yes. Your solutions. I haven’t heard any except complaints about the Bush admin. Do you actually want to debate on the playing field of ideas or not?

Presidents do not control the purse strings. The House of Representatives do and since 1994 they were Republicans. Remember in the year 1993 Tommy when Clinton was showing the graphs and what not. His Graphs had deficits as far as the eye could see. He was only saying that he could cut the deficit in half. Then in 1994 things changed. Republicans came into power and then he started hollering for 5 MONTHS STRAIGHT in 1995 that the Republicans were cutting Medicare by 270 Billion dollars when that was FAR from the truth. Republicans were increasing Medicare 7% per year for 7 years (more than 49% compounded). The liberal press repeated the Democrat lie/assertion. It was continued to be called a cut. Do you see a pattern with national and state politics here in CA? Inaccurate assertions of cuts and saying the Republicans have no heart. What do the American people get? The government they deserve. They want more government .. they’ve been getting more government for the last 6 decades.
It was only due to the LARGE increase in spending in the public and private sectors to fix the Y2K issues on every computer system that caused the booming economy from 1997-2000. That LARGE increase in the economy brought in LOTS of government revenues and temporarily caused a surplus that CA spent, the federal government spent and we have nothing to show for it. No debt was paid off. Big government’s the problem. And Bill Clinton solved nothing and didn’t portray that he would in 1993 with his graphs. BTW, THe president doesn’t control the economy either. To the extent he can is by talking it up or down and making people (that’s who controls the economy – people) feel good about the future or not. By people’s spending or lack of spending is how the economy goes.

Please read before you assert! The economy booming was the reason for the large government revenues. And no president is responsible for an economy any more or less. If so then Clinton is to blame for the recession that Bush inherited. The recession started in April-October 2000 (after the public and private sectors slashed their expenses after the large amount of spending to fix Y2K issues).
Well as far as your last staement goes those knucleheads got what they deserved but the chain of command should never had let it get as bad as it did. Somewhere along the line they knew what was going on and they should have put a stop to it the second they found out. Look what you saying about the size of government is a very valid concern baklava. The most obvious thing that can done immediately is to offer all illegal immigrants amnesty,militarize the border and shrink the size and scope of the INS. But that won’t happen politicans in this country generally don’t want to make the painful desicions that need to be made they just put it off. on both sides of the aisle.

They did. The court martials were going on before the press got a hold of it. Then the NY Times ran more than 40 front pagers as if no disciplinary action was going on. Probably why you had the impression that none was being taken until the press got a hold of it. Really Tommy you must start reading more.

1) People disagree with those statements as the solution
2) Some people would be calling for impeachment over the abuse of power for militarizing the border.
3) If people disagree with you Tommy, why do you insist that they are either a) incompetent or b) not caring. It’s not a good tactic. It doesn’t add to the debate.
I don’t believe amnesty should be granted. It happened before and exacerbated the problem because more people thought they just needed to get here and then they could be citizens whether through future amnesty’s or the past one or what. Those who are here illegally should not be here. Once you start deportations the rest of the illegal immigrants would get the hint that they can’t stay. We just need to start. 1 or 2 or 3 or 100. Just start. That’s my feeling. It doesn’t cost much to start. It’s the job of existing INS as far as I’m concerned. INS is not the reason for the budget problem either.
And yes. Border Patrol should be beefed up and and a fence should erected. The environment is being hurt in that area of the country and home owners are losing their homes property value and are moving out. Farmers have had to abandon their land.
I’m sorry you are so unhappy that you make this thread intersting. And I’m sorry to go off topic ST. The point here is that there are real problems and solutions that could be debated. Democrats just seem to be over-crisis oriented and seem to be quick to call Republicans NOT caring and INCOMPETENT and want to focus on impeaching someone for doing something that every president has done since FISA.
It’d be good if Democrats changed. I don’t have the magic words to do such. And you’d think I would since I was a liberal pre-1991.
Tommy, Amnesty, Shrink the INS? Why not just open the border and yell, “Y’all Come! Take my job, please!”
Another amnesty just tells foreigners that go ahead, break our immigration laws, they mean nothing.
If our immigration laws mean nothing, why militarize the border? You’ll just give tne next group of illegals amnesty in a few years just like you are trying to do now, and what was done before.
In this scenario, shrinking if not eliminating the INS would make sense since you don’t care about immigration laws.
PCD the point I am making is first off a lot of ilegials have kids that were born here so that makes the kids citizens. Secondly an amnesty is just pragmatic. The can’t and won’t round up all the illegals in the country. the heck with it IMHO. Cut em slack and get serious about shutting down the border. It been 4years since 9/11 and we have had an increase of illegal immigration not a decrease. Department of Homeland Security my ass.

I’d say the press were highly incompetent during Katrina (during a disaster it’s serious - they are incompetent on a regular basis). They didn’t help the evacuation before the storm. They didn’t tell people then need to leave after the levee broke. They kept repeating to the American people their belief that FEMA was responsible for things they weren’t responsible for like Law Enforcement and not getting supplies to people when it was Lousiana government responsible for denying the American Red Cross (managed by FEMA) from getting supplies to people.
The press showed their lack of knowledge and laziness and the sheople of America like Tommy believe them.

tommy, your looking was the width of a paper deep. The Corps of Engineers only consult, THEY DON’T RUN, HONCHO, OR BOSS these operations. The levees were all contracted out to companies making heavy contributions to the LA Democrat party. When deficiencies were brought to the attention of the authorities, the Democrats flunkies dismissed them.
tommy, you really have to do your homework. You are flunking. FYI, I live on the Misssissippi. The government has funded rebuilding of the locks and dams up here. The Corps of Engineers sign off on the reports and plans, but DO NOT DO THE WORK. That is being done by UNION CONTRACTORS.
Tommy, laugh all you want. There is much reading to do by you. FEMA states and has stated FOR YEARS that the FEMA response is not to be expected for 72 hours after a disaster. What you “feel” is irrelevant. What the “facts” are are important. FEMA does not do law enforecement or search and rescue.
Nobody here said that Michael Brown should not have been in charge. But what is imperative for you to understand is that FEMA is not what the press seemed to ALL OF A SUDDENT think FEMA was supposed to be. There are a NUMBER of organizations (over 100) that worked together AFTER the Katrina DISASTER.
There were government organizations and private organizations and all I hope you can LEARN is that individuals everywhere failed in their responsibility to:
1) Report accurately (the press)
2) Evacuate (the citizens)
3) Work cooperatively with allowing American Red Cross to bring supplies to those who need it (Louisiana Department of Health Services)
4) Make decisions (Governor Blanco as reported by Mayor Nagin wouldn’t decide for over a day)
The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers only were funded by all previous Congresses and Louisiana to protect New Orleans up to a category 3 hurricane. I will NOT sit here and fault the Army Corp of Engineers nor the people who funded their work (though I will fault people in Louisisana who diverted funds to other projects). Katrina was Category 5 and it was the fault of the politicians at the state and federal level for CARING more about entitlement programs rather than INFRASTRUCTURE.
Infrastructure is more important yet liberals want to grow government and impoverish our ability to take care of infrastructure. CA used to spend up to 20% of it’s funds on infrastructure decades ago. Now it spends less than 1%. Aint that great. Maybe you can look up some time the levee problems surrounding Sacramento where I live and then when the disaster hits you can CALLOUSLY call into question FEMA’s response (many great caring individuals work there) or Army Corp of Engineer’s lack of whatever.

tommy, Louisana is far away from you. Let me bring the focus to your backyard, CT. Remember the Mianus River bridge collapse on I-95? That happened because local CT Democrats starting with Gov. Grasso and Gov. O’Neill decided to rape the tolls, highway maintenance funds for money to prop up the Democrat regimes in Hartford, Bridgeport, and New Haven. Complaints made about the bridge making strange sounds were ignored because the CT highway dept. had no funds. 6 people died because of Liberal Democrat funding games. FEMA wasn’t involved, nor the Army Corps of Engineers. Much the same scenario with the levees in NO.

When dealing with a natural disaster there is that nasty little problem of States rights. You see FEMA in their charter can only opporate in an emergency. If the disaster hasn’t happened it is abit hard to have an emergency. I applaud Brown for having everything there ready and waiting. I think that General Honore hit the nail on the head when he was talking to the reports about Hurricane Rita. These pinheaded reporters wanted to know why this wasn’t done for Katrina what was being done for Rita. Honore stepped forward and called them on it. Told them that they had a choice to be part of the solution not part of the problem You see in Katrina the News reports were absolutely part of the problem. They did confuse folk. Including those in charge. Then there are other oddities like the whole waiting 24 hours to decide if this was an emergency situation. GOOD GOD WOMAN THERE IS A CAT 5 HURRICANE HEADING FOR YOUR CITY. It’s a damn emergency. Hell I have no doubt in my mind that Gov. Blanco had to get on the phone and do a conference call with Hill and Bill and Kerry and…… whoever, that is why she needed the 24 hours on Saturday to decide to declare a state of emergency on Sunday. This whole thing with how Katrina was handled was just another attempt to make Bush look bad. Redirect their anger and negativity onto others.
It’s not healthy to be unable to IDentify problems for what they really are in order to find solutions for them.
