Looks like it netted some pretty big fish:
Jan. 18, 2006 — – ABC News has learned that Pakistani officials now believe that al Qaeda’s master bomb maker and chemical weapons expert was one of the men killed in last week’s U.S. missile attack in eastern Pakistan.
Midhat Mursi, 52, also known as Abu Khabab al-Masri, was identified by Pakistani authorities as one of four known major al Qaeda leaders present at an apparent terror summit in the village of Damadola early last Friday morning.
The United States had posted a $5 million reward for Mursi’s capture. He is described by authorities as the man who ran al Qaeda’s infamous Derunta training camp in Afghanistan, where he used dogs and other animals as subjects for experiments with poison and chemicals. His explosives training manual is still regarded as the bible for al Qaeda terrorists around the world.
“He wants to cause mayhem, major death, and he puts his expertise on the line. So the fact that we took him out is significant,” said former FBI agent Jack Cloonan, an ABC News consultant, who was the senior agent on the FBI’s al Qaeda squad. “He’s the man who trained the shoe bomber Richard Reid and Zacarias Moussaoui, as well as hundreds of others.”
Pakistani officials also said that Khalid Habib, the al Qaeda operations chief for Pakistan and Afghanistan, and Abdul Rehman al Magrabi, a senior operations commander for al Qaeda, were killed in the Damadola attack. Authorities tell ABC News that the terror summit was called to funnel new money into attacks against U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
“Pakistani intelligence says this was a very important planning session involving the very top levels of al Qaeda as they get ready for a new spring offensive,” explained Alexis Debat, a former official in the French Defense Ministry and now an ABC News consultant
Now lemme see … will those who screamed it was “Bush’s fault” when the news outlets were reporting that the missile strike killed a bunch of innocents based on ‘wrong information’ now give him credit for what appears to be several good catches? Nah ….

I say great hunting and great shooting!
Kill ‘em all; let Allah sort ‘em out.
Just kidding…but nailing the key people is always good news.
Too bad there wern’t some anti-americans like Ramsey Clark there.
Well if the military thought Zawahiri was in that location it is understandable why that strike took place. That being said killing 4 or 5 terrorists risks alienting 4 or 5 million Pakisitakis ain’t worth it. We need co-operation from them. It can get confusing. This is a global guerrilla war. I suppoprted Sinn Fein when they tried to rid by grandparents country from the British. I helped raise finanical support to end the illegal occupation. I think there is a lack of understanding from most Americans what it is like to live under tyranny. This action against these terrorists may possibly counter-productive in the long run. We need as a nation to start winning the hearts and minds of the Islamic world. If not this GWOT will never end. The reason why N Ireland is quiet these days is because of the simple fact that there is more to be gained during peace than war. The only other solution is total destruction of the Islamic world. Does anybody here truly want that? I’m not being a wise-ass here I’m serious.
Tommy, I didn’t know you supported terrorism.
Kill the terrorists, not surrender to them.
The IRA are officially TERRORISTS.
Maybe 4 or 5 million Pakistanis will learn a simple lesson: if you invite terrorists to dinner you can expected an univited guest at the dinner table, a missle. As to those who can’t learn that simple lesson, they can just “say hello to Charles Darwin.”
Kevin, you may have to explain the Darwin awards to some people. My favorite was for the thief in Australia who tried to steal an engine from a dump truck. The award winner was under the engine when he removed the bolts holding the engine up in the truck. The thing was that this truck was to be scrapped and the owner would have just given the thief the truck had he just asked for it.
As of this moment the only people they Know that are dead are 7 women and 6 children. Hardly big fish. Peace
steve, read the report again. Now if you have a different source, publish it. Otherwise, you are insulting us with a lie.
Oh boy, Tommy is another one of those clueless moral relativists who are convinced that one man’s terrorist is another’s freedom fighter. Hint Tommy, Freedom Fighters don’t blow up innocent civilians as primary targets. The IRA is a terrorist organization, and always has been, and your support of them says volumes about your personal ethics and morality. I don’t care if you “served” this country in the military or not, that isn’t a life long innoculation against being called out for your terrorist sympathies.
Terrorists will use women and children to hide behind and when our military takes out a building and innocents are killed along with the terrorists they will use the death of the innocents as propaganda against the U.S. in the media. This is nothing new in the Middle East; terrorists will kill innocents and twist the facts to show that the U.S. was to blame for the deaths (Can you say Joseph Goebbels). After reading some of Tommy’s comments I can see why he supported Sinn Fein as they have Socialist values with a Nationalist Slant. Sinn Fein also recently displaced The Social Democratic and Labor Party in Northern Ireland. Tommy why don’t you start winning the hearts and minds of the “Peace Loving Muslims” I am sure a collection could be taken up to send you to Pakistan or Iraq or maybe even Iran. Maybe we could have stopped WW2 if we just got to understand what the Nazi’s were upset about and after Pearl Harbor all we needed to do was to just understand the Japanese. That’s it we should have won the hearts and minds of the Japanese people after all they were upset because we cut off their oil supply damn with Tommy’s reasoning WW2 was all for nothing. And Tommy I also served!
- Hey Severian – You know the old Marxist party line. They borrowed it from Einstein. Its all relative. N. Ireland is at peace now because Sinn Fein stopped killing innocent people in order to get at their political enemies.
- But hey. You know. “The end justifies….” ect ect
- Of course our America loving left-wing press, led by the “grand old lady”, the NYT, when they’re not busy doctoring photographs or publishing Bush hating politically biased hatchet pieces in the guise of “news”, tried to spin this once again as “Attacks on innocent Pakistani’s by the ChimpyMcHalliburtonHitlerBushies”. The picture they ran of an old man standing next to a WWII un-exploded artillery shell in a location that some believe is in Syria, was a real beaut of left wing propaganda gone amok.
- The good news is that it looks like we’re beginning to get some assistance on the ground from the locals, and tracking these slugs more consistanly when they’re not in their spidey holes.
Maybe we’re seeing more of:
“Dinner Mohab. Sure sure….I’d love to…..but I’ll have to take a rain check ’cause right now the kids have got the flu and I really have to wash the camel….”
- Bang
Cheney visits Egypt and Saudi Arabia and the next day Osama offers a truce? It was suppose to be a Christmas message but, for some reason we the people were cut out of the loop. Peace
I have friends that would like to deliver a Christmas present to Osama. It is a Hellfire, and it doesn’t look like that picture in the NYTimes, especially after it explodes.
Tommy in NYC:
“The IRA were freedom fighters not terrorists BTW.”
Here’s a quote fromm the McCartney sisters and a link covering their visit to President Bush.
“The struggle in terms of what it was 10 years ago is now over, and we are now dealing with criminal gangs who are still using the cloak of romanticism around the IRA to murder people on the streets and walk away from it,” she said.

Tommy- I really would not have a problem wiping out much of the Middle East.
