LATimes channels Jimmy Carter on Hamas

A few days ago I blogged about an interview former President Jimmy Carter did with CNN in which he questioned the validity of tagging the terrorist group Hamas with the label of “terrorist” in spite of the fact that Hamas actively promotes the wholesale destruction of Israel.

Apparently, the editorial staff of the LA Times has taken issue with classifying them as a terrorist group as well. Check out Patterico’s dissection of the LAT piece – once you read what the editorial writers at the LAT think, you’ll think that editorial very well could have been written by the former Prez himself.

Unreal.

Any group that uses violence as a tool or method of change is a terrorist organization. If a country uses violence in the same way it is also terrorist. Ask yourself, does the foreign policy of the United States project or use force of violence to accomplish it’s goals? If the answer is yes, then the citizens of this country have the right to try to impact that foreign policy if they disagree with it. Peace

Steve – It might be helpful to the voracity of your postings if, as a minimum, you’d at least take the time to understand the Authors meaning when they have quoted things. As much as you’d love to try to paint the US as a rabid, war mongering nation of superhawks, its simply not true, as our 200 year history attests. We do not live by the sword. In fact if other nations would stop jerking the tail of the dragon, we’d probably never go to war, with the exception of protecting nations that are our allies , which lunitic demogogs that arise from time to time, would destroy.

– I defy you to give me a single instance in our entire history when we arbirarily, out of the blue, with simple aggression, and no provication, attacked another country. You cannot, because as hard as you try to apply “equivalancy” and revise history, it just hasn’t happened.

– We do not “live by the sword”. In our case it would be accurate to say instead we have “survived by reticent use” of the sword. The difference is something akin to the difference between night and day.

– In that passage it would be much more applicable, albeit deny the left the opportunity for “gaming” if it said “Aggressors who live by the sword…..ect”

Steve your quotations of Jesus are abit out of context. After all Peter was out numbered like 30 to 1, and was acting stupidly when he cut the ear off of the high priest’s servant. But what really facinates me about the scripture you are quoting is the fact that the next thing Jesus did was reattach the ear of the servant. Now when you can start doing miracles like that perhaps we will start listening abit more to you. But until then to us you are an empty drum beating us over the head with quotes out of scripture that mean little, as you lack a personal testimony to empower them. It was not us, but Iraq who broke the truce that had ceased aggressions between the US and Iraq. Due to their aggressions, this war was continued. They lost, and 1 by 1 this dictatorship is being brought to justice. So go ahead and continue to parrot the senseless diatribe of illegal war. The only Iraqi’s that feel that way, were the facists that were there before we kicked them out. Calling something illegal doesn’t make it illegal. If I say someone’s word on this blog due to lack of personal responsibility is illegal it doesn’t make it so. Repeating an accusation over and over doesn’t make it true. If the left’s plan to “make the right’s life very difficult” is spouting lies and accusations daily that we have to defend and set the record straight on it is only a) not helpful to this country during a time of war b) a surefire way to keep the left out of power.

Jimmy Carter is a monumental moron! Every time he opens his mouth,a person with even a modest amount of intelligence can fully understand why he only received one term. He is a terrorist’s dream. I am a Southerner, and I want Yankees to know, we all do not think like this unmitigated failure of an ex American President. Jimmah, it is better to remain quiet and to be thought an idiot, than to open your big ‘cake hole’, and remove all doubt.

Steve, pull your head out. You are entirely ignorant. Sticking our heads in the sand does NOT make our problems go away. And, unfortunately, it is part of human nature (at least for some) to be capable of possessing great EVIL; and as such, when these peopple rear their ugly heads in their ugliest forms, there is no way to deal with them, except to eradicate them. The alternative is to BE ERADICATED, in time, ourselves. For God’s sake, if only the world had listened to Winston Churchill – 50 million lives would likely have been saved by extinguishing the Nazis BEFORE they became a threat. Of course, hindsight is always 20/20. This is exactly why we need leaders that can see more than ONE chess move ahead – which, incidentally, is one reason you will NEVER be a leader.
