20 year anniversary of Space Shuttle Challenger tragedy

Jim at bRight and Early has posted a moving tribute that includes President Reagan’s eulogy to the 7 astronauts who were killed in the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion 20 years ago on January 28th, 1986.

I was in junior high school at the time and remember hearing about it during lunch recess. That day was probably the quietest I could remember for a lunch recess as everyone was in a state of shock.

MSNBC has a great section devoted to remembering the Challenger tragedy.

We’re also just a few days away from the 3 year anniversary of the in-air disintegration of the Space Shuttle Columbia, which killed all 7 astronauts on Feb. 1, 2003.

I was lounging in bed that morning and had turned on Fox News around 9 a.m. to watch the Columbia return from it’s mission. When they reported what had happened, my heart dropped and I thought to myself: “Oh God no, not again.”

More: Dean Esmay has a stirring post up on the Challenger tragedy as well.
