How the media manufactures a scandal
You’re watching it and reading it all over the news – the ’scandal’ over the accidental shooting by VP Dick Cheney of fellow hunter Harry Whittington. Newsbusters gives the lowdown on how Charlie Gibson on Good Morning America tried to spin this story this morning.
Unfortunately, Gibson isn’t the only one. Michelle Malkin reports that WH Press Secretary Scott McClellan got hammered on the delay in the reporting of this to the media and includes a link to Expose the Left’s video of the media doing what it does best: hyperventilating over yet another non-issue.

We’ve asked SERIOUS questions about John Kerry that STILL have gone unanswered for YEARS. Get off your hypocritical feigned wound. What really hurts you is that you can’t win by hook, crook (Stealing elections), ginned up scandal.
PCD You gotta admit that VP Cheney is going to look stupid just for shooting the old man. Maybe he should’ve joined the military instead of taking those deferments. Maybe then he would’ve learned to handle a rifle properly. But as we all know he had better stuff to do.Spare me dude.
For one thing it wasn’t several days it was 24 hours before the accident was reported to the media. It is not the accident it is the fact that the media is demanding to know why it wasn’t reported to them right away. This is nothing more that the media reliving the glory days of Watergate and trying to bring down this administration. It is amazing how this is the biggest story out there front page news and yet Iran had once again started the process of refining uranium into weapons grade fuel. Nope Iran ignored it was the hunting accident! Maybe it’s just me, but while Iran is trying to get its hand on a nuke; while armed and uniformed Mexicans are shooting at U.S. law enforcement personnel along our borders; while congress is spending us into oblivion — I somehow find it hard to get worked up over how we learned that Dick Cheney bagged an attorney. So …. How about a big “who cares” here?

In no way was Cheney anywhere near as REPREHENSIBLE AS TED KENNEDY. They are night and day. Kennedy KILLED a young woman through his irresponsibility and criminal actions.
Tommy, this was a hunting accident. The victim was not left to bleed to death. This is night and day, only thing is you are the one too blind to see.
You have NO credibility on Cheney until YOU take CLINTON to task for Dodging the Draft, scamming the ROTC, and leading Anti-American protests in England during war time.

Youse need to start waking up to the reality that most of the country are struggling to make ends meet, This conflict in the Iraq is going to continue for decades and it sure as heck ain’t going as succesfull no matter what lies comes out of 43’s mouth. Our military readiness and ability to respond to national homeland emergencies are diminshed because of Iraq with no end in sight. And judical appointees looking to take society back to the 18th century. Thanks for nothing 43. He should’ve stayed in Texas so he could cry that the border patrol isn’t doig their duty effectivly. Oh wait……… He’s in charge of that branch of government now. Worst president since Carter!!!!!!

tommy, I am sick of your inability to deal with the truth about Democrats. You call it bashing to point out the facts about your clay footed idols. It isn’t it is the truth and you have no counter or credible defense. All you can do is bash Bush with lies, distortions, and wild A** delusions.
All Democrats can propose is Do nothing, but tax more. Waste tax dollars on propping up Democrat voters, but not a real penny towards defense or really improving the country.

There was an 18 hour “delay” in giving information to the media, hardly anything for them to get all hot and bothered by.
Are we in the habit of doing the media’s job for them? Hold on a sec, I guess blogs are in the habit of doing that. My mistake.
I do believe the VP was more interested in getting the proper care and making sure his friend was doing well and really did not care to even issue a “press release” for the salivating media.
I can completely understand this. If I had accidentally shot someone, I would be trying to get medical attention and probably be by there side till I knew they were going to ok. And the first thought would not be to contact the media for a press release.
And that is why the press is bent out of shape, because they weren’t notified sooner. I have two words for the MSM…Boo Hoo. I have a higher respect for someone who takes care of another and stays by thier side, than someone who immediately jumps to the media for a spotlight announcement.
This was an accident, yet conspiracy theories abound. Is there any more tin foil left in the world because the aasertions I have been hearing is so far out there that it is patently rediculous. Well, you have to look at it from their perspective. The MSM are used to getting advanced notice of terrorist attacks and such, so they can have their cameras there ready to snap photos when it happens. The Islamist Terrorists in Iraq show them this courtesy, and it’s a sad day when the US government can’t extend the same courtesy to the members of the press.

There has been some changes that the White House has been able to work with Congress on. But on this issue I give both Congress and the White House an “F” because they do not act with the due diligence they need to act with. Over 80% of the country seems to agree that “illegal” immigration needs to be stopped for a whole host of reasons including national security. It is interesting Tommy when watching C-SPAN you’ll see who is more interested in using the race card when these issues are brought up. Tom Tancredo will get done speaking and he’ll be torn to shreds by Democrats… yes Democrats as being racist etc. Those aren’t the exact words but I as a conservative believe that we’ll get more action on the border with Republicans soon than Democrats. Though the little amount of increases of border patrol are not enough and I give an “F”.

- Actually folks the general situation concerning Mr. Whittingtons condition was just revised in a press conference on the scene by the attending physicians. They are now saying that at least one of the buckshot beebee’s went deeper than they knew and is lodged somewhere in the mans heart. they also concluded he had suffered at least one “silent heart attack” from the irritation of the presense of the foreign object, the buckshot in the heart muscle. They have opted not to remove the particles so far, considering the operation to be more invasive than would be warrented. They did a catheter operation on him this morning to check on the general condition of his heart and try to locate the material. The man is 78 years old so any sort of situation of this nature is not dangerous. They have stated he is in no immediate danger and will be intensely monitored for any signs of infection or worsening of his condition. So far neither the White house nor the VP’s staff have issued any further comments.
- All in all it makes all the latenight joksters like Letterman look pretty petty and cynical. They might have at least waited till the mans condition was known before troting out all the WMD/Cheney jokes. I think of all the things I find the most distasteful of all about the Liberal mindset is this sort of uncaring cynacism. Nothing is due any respect. Nothing is sacred. Everything is fair game….

Where are all the people saying that this was no big deal. I mean he was “PEPPERED” not shot. This happens all of the time. The MSM, the MSM. The fact is that a 78 year old man was shot in the face by accident by the Vice-President of the United States of the America. And that is a serious matter whether you like it or not. I just hope this guy pulls through, for Dick’s sake.
No one is saying this is not a big deal, but the media doesn’t care aboutthe mans condition, they only cared about that they were not TOLD FIRST.
I understand it is something major when the VP injures another, especially in a hunting accident, but the consiracy theories are coming from idiots out there and that includes the MSM, that are not wanting to actually report the news but create something more out of the time it took them to get the news released to them.
What sells more?

Beware of sensationalism with journalist. They are out to sell thier papers and so will make the most inflamatory titles when writing.
Even more so if they feel slighted cause the VP sought medical treatment and stayed by the side of the friend who was shot and not telling them first……

Sorry, but I’m saying this is ABSOLUTELY no big deal. It’s a hunting accident, end of story. In Wisconsin, this does occasionally happen. SO WHAT? It’s not even close to the Chai Vang killing spree in northwest Wisconsin over a year ago. This was simply an accident. Two friends both got careless while hunting, and the result is one got wounded. Stop the presses. There is no story of ANY significance whatsoever.
