Slobodan Milosevic found dead in his cell

The AP is reporting:

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands – Former Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milosevic, the so-called “butcher of the Balkans” being tried for war crimes after orchestrating a decade of bloodshed during his country’s breakup, was found dead Saturday in his prison cell. He was 64.

Milosevic, who suffered chronic heart ailments and high blood pressure, apparently died of natural causes and was found in his bed, the U.N. tribunal said, without giving an exact time of death.

He had been examined by doctors following frequent complaints of fatigue or ill health that delayed his trial, but the tribunal could not immediately say when he last had a medical checkup. All detainees at the center in Scheveningen are checked by a guard every half hour.

The tribunal said Milosevic’s family had been informed of his death, which came nearly five years after he was arrested, then extradited to The Hague.

Captain Ed pretty much sums up my feelings on Milosovic’s death.

It sure would have been nice to see his trial completed with a verdict (or verdicts as the case was) and the sentencing that would follow. But what’s happened has happened and the world definitely will not miss him.

    I never wish anyone to die (well, almost) but we all have to go sometime. It seems fitting that Milosovic dies by himself in a jail cell. Seems like a “Karma” moment.

    I hope Saddam doesn’t die in a jail cell. I hope they hurry up his trial and execute him. That’ll be 2 less dictator/terrorists in the world.

    Any bets on how long it takes for the Democrats and the MSM to start a whisper campaign claiming that Bush (or Cheney or the Jews/neocons) had Milosovic murdered?

    What was that cracking sound? Was it Hell freezing over? Must be… I agree with steve. Died all alone in a jail cell, huh? Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving scumbag. Except, perhaps, Saddam.

    THE HAGUE (Reuters) – Chief U.N. war crimes prosecutor Carla del Ponte said on Sunday she could not rule out that Slobodan Milosevic might have committed suicide but said she wanted to wait for the results of an autopsy.
