Operation Swarmer: taking care of business

Posted by: Sister Toldjah on March 16, 2006 at 2:34 pm

Our fine men in uniform, along with hundreds of Iraqi soldiers, have gone on the offensive against the insurgency in what is being called the largest air assault since the 2003 invasion:

BAGHDAD, Iraq – U.S. forces and Iraqi troops launched what the military described as the largest air assault since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion Thursday, targeting insurgent strongholds north of the capital.

The U.S. military said the raid, dubbed Operation Swarmer, was aimed at clearing “a suspected insurgent operating area” northeast of Samarra and was expected to last several days. The Pentagon said 41 people were arrested but it was not clear if suspected insurgents put up any resistance.

Residents in the targeted area said there was a heavy U.S. and Iraqi troop presence and large explosions could be heard in the distance. The U.S. military said there was no firing or bombing from the air and the source of the blasts was not known.

“More than 1,500 Iraqi and coalition troops, over 200 tactical vehicles, and more than 50 aircraft participated in the operation,” the military statement said.

The U.S. command in Baghdad said it was the largest number of aircraft used to insert troops and the largest number of troops inserted by air, although larger numbers of troops overall have been involved in previous operations.

Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Barry Venable said no bombs, missiles or other ordnance were fired from the helicopters. He said more than 650 U.S. troops and more than 800 Iraqi soldiers took part in the operation.

That’s called a spring round up. Lets hope they collected all the strays. **==

  2. andrew says:

    mission accomplished!

  3. Baklava says:

Yes. That aircraft carrier’s mission was accomplished!! **==

Did you just recognize that fact?

    GO USA!

  4. libertarianobserver says:

Where’s Steve to tell us that we’d get better results if we just sat around and sang a couple choruses of “kumbaya?”

    just asking..

  5. Baklava says:

Or to tell us that Bush is “interested” in warmongering and not interested in bringing about peace through defeat of those not interested in peace.

  6. benning says:

Don’t worry, you know he’ll be by!

  7. - Whats really encouraging is that details of the planning were handled by the Iragi forces, a fully coordinated air support plan at that, which is impressive. Additionally the Iraqui forces outnumbered the Americans in this operation. If true, both of these situations are a big gold star toward finally getting the Iraqui’s on their feet, defending their own country and interests, and beginning a slow steady draw down of our troops. Its probably true we’ll always maintain a few bases there, but hopefully they will be mainly for moral support, advisory, and to help in a pinch is extreme circumstances. Orobably the best immediate outcome we can hope for is another S. Korea type stallmate for now. But that would be a huge difference in dealing with Iran. Bases of Ops if needed ect.

    - A good sign for a change whatever the outcome….

    - Bang **==

  8. steve says:

This should have been possible two years ago, so, yet again, our fearless leader is a day late and a dollar short. bush’s plan has been even more of a joke then his non-plan has been. The only good news today is that bush is finally willing to talk to Iran. If this leads to the re-establishment of full diplomatic relations with Iran, maybe, just maybe, we will see the light at the end of the tunnel. Support the troops and bring them home today. Peace

  9. andrew says:

“Yes. That aircraft carrier’s mission was accomplished!! ”

Carrier? this operation doesn’t involve any carriers. But you can be sure it will be accomplished, banners and all!

  10. Baklava says:

My apologies Andrew… I thought you were referring to the “Mission Accomplished” banner on the aircraft carrier after the invasion of Iraq because you lefties have been SNIDE about that banner ever since (as if you have any points) :)

  11. andrew says:

“My apologies Andrew… I thought you were referring to the “Mission Accomplished” banner on the aircraft carrier after the invasion of Iraq because you lefties have been SNIDE about that banner ever since (as if you have any points)”

Hasn’t bush stood in front of lots of those, or just that one?

  12. Baklava says:

Let’s have you do the due diligence for a change instead of acting with snideness and irresponsibly bantering with false allegations….

It’s not hard. Maybe you’ll like it.

  13. - Backwards as usual Steve, and missing each and every point. Iran is suddenly interested in talking to us, not the other way around. But its just stalling. Every one of the axis of evil countries, every one, has done this phoney two step too many times too count. They’ll lie through their teeth at best, or just use the talks to drag their feet.

    - Remember the 6 day war Steve. Arafat agreed and shook hands on the deal, a deal that would have gotten them everything they demanded except the destruction of Isreal. Three days later, in cahoots with their orther murdering scumbag friends, Syria, Egypt, and Russia, they attacked. They’re scum, liars, and murderers, and you Sparky, are as bad as they are, if you want to side with them.

    - Bang’s fangs >:)

  14. steve says:

Big Bang Hunter, you are clearly a Zionist. Whether you are Jewish or not, is for you to admit. The problem with Zionists is that they believe in retribution. That is a foolish and immoral philosophy. When God said to “Turn the other cheek”, the Zionist decided that God was not speaking to them. That was an error of monumental proportions. Peace

  15. Lorica says:

=)) Steve too funny for words. – Lorica

  16. andrew says:

“Let’s have you do the due diligence for a change instead of acting with snideness and irresponsibly bantering with false allegations….”

I’ve only heard of one mission accomplished banner. If they did refer to individual ships, you’d expect to see lots of them.

  17. saus says:

Ha! Steve, I am a Zionist.

    “Zi·on·ism (P)Pronunciation Key (z-nzm)
    n.

A Jewish movement that arose in the late 19th century in response to growing anti-Semitism and sought to reestablish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Modern Zionism is concerned with the support and development of the state of Israel.”

    Retribution? That’s rich..
    Genesis, 17: 1-9.
1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

9 And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.

We’re just following instructions Steve. Cut us Jews / Zionists some slack, you know who’s watching..

  18. steve says:

The “who” I most care about is Christ. You remember him, he was the Christian who put the Old Testament to bed. All of your thinking and your references seus, are the old way. The Good News was that the old way was dead. Leave it to the Zionists to resurrect the old way(armageddonists) for their own political purposes. Abraham had two sons: Isaac the Jew and Ishmael the Father of the Arab Nation. The time has come for reconciliation. Peace

  19. benning says:

steve, steve, steve Isaac was not a Jew. He was probably a Hebrew, but the Jews didn’t exist at the time of Isaac.

Do your research, steve. That will keep you out of trouble. Peace! LOL

    :d

  20. forest hunter says:

Since when did you take on Christ’s name as your own steve? The only one you show the slightest bit of concern for is you, devoid of the slightest bit of respect for a single damn thing, you lying hypocrite. :-w

Your constant cycle of Babble copy, that you’ve subscribed to has eliminated the ability, for you and your ilk, to even begin any serious dialogue. You’re lost before you even sit down at the keyboard.

Until you can carry on some kind of adult debate and answer a single question, you’ll be stuck in your self made Hell. Good luck with that. :o)

  21. sanity says:

Yes steve just forget aboutthe old testament…..

While if you care to think about it any, this is what it holds:

    Old Testament

Legal (Genesis through Deuteronomy): These first five books describe the creation and fall of humanity, God’s plan to redeem the world through Abraham’s descendants, and the expression of His holy character, which is most clearly seen in the Mosaic Law.

Historical (Joshua through Esther): The next twelve books trace the development, disobedience, downfall, and deliverance of God’s people, the nation of Israel.

Poetical (Job through Song of Solomon): Beginning with the laments of Job, we move to the psalmists’ praise to the Solomon’s words of wisdom.

Prophetical (Isaiah through Malachi): The prophets called God’s people to righteous living and foretold His judgment on those who turned their backs on Him.

Don’t forget the Old Testament! Here are the roots of the New Testament and the thematic foundations to the life of Christ.

So you are all about the love of Christ hmm steve. I would take you at your word, but it hasn’t been too good around here. Besides, if you trully were, you would not forget and disregard te foundations of the life of Christ.

  22. Jack Deth says:

    Steve:

Don’t you know that every time a Liberal whines, an Angel laughs its ass off?

I’ll wager that the Iraqi soldiers involved in “Swarmer” will do exceptionally well!

    Jack.

  23. CavalierX says:

Steve thinks Christ was a Christian? It’s hilarious when Liberals pretend to know something about religion, isn’t it? Some do, to be sure, but those with the biggest mouths show the greatest ignorance when they open them.

  24. PCD says:

Again, steve shows his ignorance. Christ did not come to Earth to supercede the Old Testament, but to fulfill it.

If people do 180 degrees opposite of steve, we will have peace and prosperity.

  25. Lorica says:

Amen to that Guys!!! Like usual Steve is wrong, but I still hold onto hope that one day he will be right, in more ways than one. – Lorica

  26. steve says:

You all believe that Christ was not the first Christian and I’m wrong? That must be some kind of joke, Right? Peace

  27. PCD says:

steve, Christ is Christ, not a Christian. A Christian is a follower or disciple of Christ’s teachings and philosophy.

  28. CavalierX says:

    >You all believe that Christ was not the
    >first Christian and I’m wrong?

Umm, steve.. he was a Jew. As for you being wrong, it shouldn’t be a novel experience for you.

  29. sanity says:

A similar situation exists regarding the word “Christian” Very early followers of Jesus did not actually have any “name” for themselves and an opponent was apparently the first person to use the word “Christian” to refer to them. The name stuck, and around the Fourth Century, a strict definition was given to the word. The definition was needed then because many groups with very different beliefs were all referring to themselves as Christians. The definition settled on was basically the contents of the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed. Neither of these two Creeds is actually from the Bible’s text, but they are each considered to be closely based on it, which is the basis for their credibility.

    Dictionary
    Chris·tian (krÄs’chen)
    adj.

    1. Professing belief in Jesus as Christ or following the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus.

    2. Relating to or derived from Jesus or Jesus’s teachings.

    3. Manifesting the qualities or spirit of Jesus; Christlike.

    4. Relating to or characteristic of Christianity or its adherents.

    5. Showing a loving concern for others; humane.

    n.

    1. One who professes belief in Jesus as Christ or follows the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus.

    2. One who lives according to the teachings of Jesus.

As a noun, Christian is an appellation and moniker deriving from the appellation “Christ”, which many people associate exclusively with Jesus of Nazareth. The first known usage of this term can be found in the New Testament of the Bible, in Acts 11:26. The term was first used to denote those known or perceived to be disciples of Christ.

    still more…

As an adjective, the term may describe an object associated with Christianity. For many this also means to be a member or adherent of one of the organized religious denominations of Christianity. The term Christian means “belonging to Christ” and is derived from the Greek noun Χριστός Khristós which means “anointed one,” which is itself a translation of the Hebrew word Moshiach (Hebrew: משיח, also written “Messiah”), (and in Arabic it is pronounced Maseeh مسيح). According to the New Testament, those who followed Jesus as his disciples were first called Christians by those who did not share their faith, in the city of Antioch. Xian or Xtian is another word used to describe Christians and is similar to using Xmas in place of Christmas; the X or Xt used as a contraction for “Christ” (”X” resembles the Greek letter Χ (Chi), the first letter of “Christ” in Greek (Χριστός [Christos]).

As Cav said, being wrong shouldn’t be a novel experience for you steve.

  30. forest hunter says:

steve if you had one, or the twins typically associated with standard male equipment, you’ve surely stomped a mud hole in it this time. Thanks for the humor, now if you hurry can get in line before they run out of soup! =))

  31. steve says:

Jesus the Christ in the Greek. The first Demigod, you know where a women is impregnated by an otherworldly being like and angel, was Imhotep. His father was a God and his mother was a mortal. That was in 2630 BC, a few thousand years before Christ(0) or Abraham(1600 BC) or Moses(1300 BC). As a matter of fact Joseph, of the technicolor coat, was Queene Tye’s father who was Amenhotep IV’s(1375 BC) mother. So the evidence suggests that the Jews(Hebrews) are well conected to the Eqyptians, and the Arabs. Peace

  32. forest hunter says:

    Amen and then some!
