La Shawn Barber has more info on the “Support Abdual Rahman” rally that is taking place tomorrow at the Afghan Embassy in DC, in case anyone is interested in attending. I wish I lived closer to DC so I could attend things like this. I don’t, but if you do or can attend – I hope you will.
If any of the regulars here do go, please check in and let us know how everything goes.
You can find more background on the case of Abdul Rahman here. The short version: He’s an Afghani man who may be put to death in Afghanistan over the “crime” of converting from Islam to Christianity.
Sat. AM Update: Cam Edwards has photos and a recap up of the rally (make sure to scroll down for a link to more photos).
Sat. PM Update: Hamid Karzai intervenes on behalf of Rahman. (Hat tip: Age of Hooper, who has some video links from the Rahman rally)

You think they might add the eradication of the opium poppy in their rally? Peace
- If poppy fields and Sharia’ is going to be the basis for the neo-Domocracies in Muslim countries then we need to re-think the whole WOT issue.
- Bang
- I don’t think Condi is going to take no for an answer on this issue overall, let alone in Rahmans case. Theres no way Americans will accept this sort of religious intolorance, and continue to support our presense in Afghanistan, or our financial support, beyond pursueing the remaining al Qeada/Taliban insurgents. The same is true in Iraq. If the answer is going to be the same sort of Theocracy as other Muslim countries when things are finally brought under control there, then again we need to re-think the entire approach to the WOT. Whats the point in setting up Neo-Democracies, the money and suffering, and lost man and women, just to return to the same thing they started with?
- Bang
This was going to be the outcome all along. Why do you think the Left hates bush? Peace
“Whats the point in setting up Neo-Democracies, the money and suffering, and lost man and women, just to return to the same thing they started with?”
Welcome the the club. Now I gotta ask: why do you hate our troops?
- Thats a stupid off the mark question Andrew, and reflects the adulpated thinking of the left in this whole conflict from the very beginning.
Sooner or later if the extremists in Islam insist on intolorance we’ll have to face them one way or the other. Better there than here. That hasn’t changed one iota, period.
- Its not the war effort, or our troops I’m talking about here. Its the idea that we deliver these people from despots, and then they need to stop the religious wars or else. Thats not our choice. Its up too them. If they insist on making it us or them, they’re going to lose. Someone amoung their leaders need to get smart fast.
- Bang
We Christians have been through this before in the Reformation. Islam requires Reformation, not war. The Christian Reformation was based on corruption and violence, a condition that Islam finds itself in today. Muslims require patience and dialogue not death. Peace
- Problem is Steve its more than patience they’re after. I don’t suppose your interested in contributing your head to the cause. I’m guessing your tower of patience stops short of that idea.
- Bang

That’s the price you pay for making sense. Welcome to the club.
“That’s the price you pay for making sense.”
When did that happen??? I read and re-read the entire post and still don’t see where you made any sense.
Of course, that’s nothing new….
Big Bang, the first logical step is to re-establish full diplomatic relations with Iran. The Left will now patiently wait for that thought to get into bush’s “head”. How long do you suspect the Left will have to patiently wait for that to happen? Peace
How long do you suspect the Left will have to patiently wait for that to happen?
- I suspect when “the price you pay” for “diplomatic relations”, “turning the other cheek”, and “appeasement at any cost” ends up in an American city being reduced to nuclear rubble, the left will be lucky to escape without being hung from the nearest lamp post.
- Of course if the Celaphate wins the jihad, then the left will all be the first lined up against the wall and shot. So either way its not a good time to be a Socialist/Marxist/Communist/Anarchist/Atheist/Elitist.
- Bang
Either way, you win and the Left loses, so lie back and enjoy the ride. Peace
Full diplomatic relations would include unfreezing accounts that Jimmy Carter froze in 1979. It would also include trade relations. I don’t think that would do anything but show our enemies how willing we are to back down. Other words we would all have to become spineless to allow this to happen. – Lorica
You should re-think your position, because with it you have no leverage except nuclear weapons and that really isn’t an option. Peace
John Bolton seems to be having trouble getting the 15 people needed for IRan to be brought before hte council.
Russia has decidedly sided with Iran and is actively seeling anti-air missles to Iran as we speak.
China has secured a deal on one of Irans oil fields (big suprise there) and are supporting Iran, they will not do anything to disrupt thier oil flow.
I do not think diplomatic talks will solve anything, but I think we should see how the Iran/US/Iraq talks go first to see how things go with this.
steve, as much as it pains me is some-what right, if we burn all bridges, the only thing left will be a nuclear option. Iran has already stated if sanctions are placed on them that they will retaliate physically. Bolton is having problems trying to even get people to pull a committee in the UN to work on this issue because the UN is too busy running scared or making thier own deals under the table (russia/china) or right under our noses.
So I think it boils down to is that Israel and the US are on thier own in this matter, we can expect no help from an incompetent and impotent UN. The UN is no longer about United Nations, but what each nation can get a deal under the table, or putting pressure or consessions for deals…almost like the Mob eh? Want protection? Pay the UN.
In all seriousness, I do believe Israel will not stand by and let Iran get ahold of WMD while being threatened to wipe Israel off the map. Iran has taken a very threatening stance to Israel, and if this continues, I think it will be Israel who strikes first.
The way to Peace in the Middle East lies through Iran. The United States should immediately re-establish diplomatic relations with Iran. We both have alot to talk about face to face. If Israel drops a bomb on Iran, the Iranians will fire many, many missles at Israel. The time for violence is over. Peace
