DC grapevine: Snow “likely” to accept WH press sec. job
Via CNN:
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Sources close to the White House said Monday that Fox anchor Tony Snow is likely to accept the job as White House press secretary, succeeding Scott McClellan.
The sources said they expect him to announce his decision within the next few days.
A source familiar with the discussions said Monday that newly appointed Chief of Staff Josh Bolten asked Snow to make a decision by early this week.
Two sources familiar with the discussions said Bolten wanted to fill the post this week, as early as Tuesday.
Sources familiar with Snow’s deliberations said he has been focusing on family, finances and his health.
The sources said Snow, who has been battling colon cancer, got a good prognosis from his doctor last week and that Snow resolved his concerns about taking the job over the weekend.
Neither Snow nor the White House would comment.
If true, I’m really looking fwd to seeing how Tony tackles the WH press corps …

I like Tony Snow, he strikes me as an honest, hard working person, and more than that, a decent, kind person. Unusual in network news, but I’m not sure he is rough and tumble enough to be press secretary. I think he’s more than sharp and competent enough, but I’d like someone a bit more abrasive and tough, like Ann Coulter.
I know that you are supposed to try and smooth things over and be “reasonable” as press secretary, but with the virulent anti-Bush lynch mob that call themselves the White House press corps these days, I’m not so sure that approach is still for the best. The press has firmly staked themselves out as antagonists, not non-partisan news gatherers these days.
I like Tony. I’d hate to see him give up his radio show.
Bang, I am experiencing most of Tony’s health issues. I just didn’t need Chemo or radiation. Ir has been 17 years since I’ve been treated. God willing, Tony will be around as long if not longer.
I love Tony Snow. While he is a slight moderate it is because he is reasonable. He is like me I think. A centrist/conservative. One who realizes that if you cut the budget dramatically you will see a recession. My idea calls for a 10 year freeze in the amount of spending while the priorities are reprioritized (I know that doesn’t make sense). I don’t think Tony is for anything drastic. He dialogs, he reasons, he applies common sense, and he doesn’t spew vitriol. Neither did Scott McClellan but Tony I believe will be better and even more professional. Tony has a reputation to up hold and I think he’s up for the task.
I personally think that if liberals attack him they are only showing their character. Tony has been a commentator. He hasn’t been a reporter. He is open and honest about giving “his” opinion. That honesty is refreshing. I wish more so-called news people would admit thier biases. It’d be refreshing.
OFF TOPIC ANSER CONCERNING DEFENSE: Steve, Your question was after my statement that that was what the federal government was tasked with doing was providing the defense. I didn’t say the federal government was tasked with creating the exact department name called “Department of Defense”.
The federal government no questions asked is tasked by the constitution with providing for the defense. Of course there are other things it could do like Infrastructure and disease control to promote the general welfare but the constitution doesn’t talk about redistribution of wealth because life isn’t fair. It is fine to have minimum wages and labor and employment laws (is that one of your 11 laws) and environmental protection but liberals have taken it overboard and nobody can dispute that but liberals. Government has grown BIGGER every year for 6 decades. Of which the defense portion has gone from 49% of the budget 40 years ago to 20% of the budget. That means that defense has shrunk as a percentage of the budget and you are asking for it to be cut in half as if it hasn’t ever happened. Defense is NOT the budget problem. The budget problem IS everything else. The BIG 3 entitlements are over 50% of the budget and growing (Social Security, Medicare and the other one). It is fine to have these programs but liberals attack us conservatives for trying to give people more control and a nest egg tha tthey can passs down to their children.
I for one am tired of the attacks by people like you. Instead of having an intelligent debate we are stuck on fundamentals and responding to name calling. There are plenty of liberals and conservatives who want solutions for this country and are “well-intentioned”. It doesn’t have to be attack this person or that person every day. Unless that is what you want…
Tony Snow is one of the truly likeable people in the media. I just can’t see him up at that podium taking that nastiness from the WHPC.
Health and family aside, it would only be a two year job and the chance of a lifetime for a newsman. Would not surprise me if he took it.
It would be an interesting thing to watch. Maybe his soothing easy demeanor would bring some civility to those confrontational press conferences.

Tony will be an excellent Press Secretary. I’m sure if he needs an assistant Secretary he could get dozens of people to help him out. I’d be there if he knew about me.

I have not listened to Tony Snow on the radio but I like him on Foxnews and will miss him on said channel. When he becomes the White House Press Secretary when he has press conferences would that be considered a “Snow Job”?

He also was the only person that confirmed what I had thought when Bush 41 was running for a second term, whom Snow was a speech writer for. That Bush 41 didn’t really want a second term. I have one thing to ask on the different media outlets (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CNN, BBC), which news medias are biased in thier reporting?
Which NEWS REPORTING, has biased REPORTERS adn NEWS ANCHORS that show their bias while they report?
I hear alot about FOX news being biased, but I do not see that in their NEWS reporting. FOX is demonized mainly because of their commentators and opinion people like O’Rielly (who is not a newcaster, who is not a reporter, who is not a news anchor).
With that in mind, tell me how Fox NEWS reporting, is biased?
There are other agencies that show their bias straight out, in their REPORTING, from both their REPORTERS and NEWS ANCHORS.
I do not judge them by their commentators and opinion shows like Olberman, so same should go for judging Fox based on their commentators and Opinion shows. In Fox News, the REPORTING OF THE NEWS, what bias marks them as bad?
This is a serious question that I really want to know about. I hear so much about FOX News Bias, tell me where it is in their NEWS REPORTING.
