‘PROGRESSIVE’ MEDIA STALLS: ‘AIR AMERICA’ IN AUDIENCE PLUNGE NYC, ‘DAILY KOS’ BOOK SELLS ONLY 3,600 COPIES
Wed Apr 26 2006 11:39:51 ET

Left-leaning new media has hit turbulence at the marketplace, newly released stats show.

A book hyped by major media as documenting a progressive revolution of “blogs” and political power, DAILY KOS ‘CRASHING THE GATE,’ has sold only 3,630 copies since its release last month, according to NIELSEN’s BOOKSCAN.

[NIELSEN claims only 2,062 copies of DAILY KOS have been purchased at the retail level; the rest coming through 'discount' outlets.]

Meanwhile, the just released radio Winter Book [Jan-Mar 2006] from ARBITRON shows AIR AMERICA in New York City losing more than a third of its audience — in the past year!

Among all listeners 12+, it was a race to the bottom for AIR AMERICA and WLIB as mid-days went from a 1.6 share during winter 2005 to a 1.0 share winter 2006.

During PM drive, host Randi Rhodes plunged to 27,900 listeners every quarter hour, finishing 25th place in her time slot, down from 60,900 listeners every quarter hour in the fall.

A network source says the radio ratings released today do not reflect the overall growth of the broadcast.

“The demos are better, and listeners trust AIR AMERICA to give them the real truth on issues and the Bush presidency,” says the insider.

Uh huh.

As I’ve said before in conversations with people about the ‘progressive’ media, liberals don’t tune in to the ‘progressive’ media nearly as much as conservatives tune in to conservative talk radio and other opinion outlets because because liberals already had plenty of media ‘progressive’ media outlets to turn to prior to Air America: ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, PBS, the NYT, WaPo, etc … :-"

Thur. AM Update: Brian Maloney at The Radio Equalizer has more on the low ratings the ‘progressive’ media are bringing in. (Hat tip: Michelle Malkin blogging at HotAir)

  3. THat’s what I’ve been saying. You’ll hear the same message on the economy, Richard Clarke, global warming, Bush, etc on all those channels.

    1) No contradictory messages from Clarke.
    2) No alternative facts about the economy and/or what effects tax rate reductions have on the economy.
    3) No alternative view point about the past 8 years having ZERO (in fact a negligible cooling but very miniscule amount) warming when CO2 emissions have continued to rise in the last 8 years (China dramatically) versus the previous 27 years having risen 1 degree and then the previous 50 years (during the start and middle of the industrial age the earth having cooled.
    4) No alternative view point on Bush actually being allowed (make that tasked) by the constitution to surveille the enemy during a war.

After my conversion from liberalism (yes I was diseased) in 1991 I remember VIVIDLY how ALL the channels were propogating the LIE from Clinton that the Republicans were cutting Medicare 270 Billion dollars. That LIE was propogated for nearly 5 months with no alternative view.

The only place you could see or hear a different view was AM radio and the Internet (though that didn’t have a large presence as today). 7% increases for 7 years (more than 49% compounded) cannot be described as a cut because it was a higher rate increase than inflation in the medical sector and the number of new participants. Additionally, If someone were to look at the numbers today they will see increases happened every year.

The drive by legacy media has no excuse. Yet they should apologize for what partisanship is going on today in politics. That’ll never happen with the likes of Mary Mapes’ running around.

  4. SCAM-America is just getting its just deserts after causing the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club to close by not paying back the money SCAM-America scammed from it. Yet, SCAM-America can pay Al Franken millions per year.

  5. Evidently even some liberals are getting tired of the constant spewing of hatred of Bush and conservatives the liberals have no message or ideas just hatred that would get old listening to that all the time. The MSM refuses to see that the public isn’t interested in there spin on things we want just the facts so we can form our own opinions. There elitist idealism they feel over the great unwashed is showing more and more and in response people are turning to other sources for their information. Neal Boortz asked Al Frankin to host his radio show in boortz’s absents Frankin would only do the show if Frankin’s call screeners worked the show. It seams that Al just didn’t want to take calls from conservative callers only liberal callers that agree with him, Wow that’s balanced isn’t it Al?

  8. This is really simple to understand, All of the right wing talkers who have done well use humor, and are up beat and optimistic.
Liberalspeak, by its very nature is all too pessimistic, and too serious, even when they go for humor, its mostly just very angry ad hominiem attacks.
So even fellow lefties cant stand to listen to them.

Ever wonder how NPR can take the most important and exciting current events and present them in a way that puts you to sleep?

  9. Good point Kyle8. Remember it was Reagan who said that Democrats act like every day is April 15th, while Republicans act like every day is July 4th.

  10. Sev - That was then this is now….

    - Democrats act like everyday is 9/10…Republicans know every day could be another 9/11

  11. And Republicans never want to see that day ever happen again. I think some of people would of cheered if, and secretly wish that, flight 93 would of crashed into the White House. That is just their mind set. As I said earlier, I think the American people are just growing tired of the BS, and no agenda to “Make things Better”, so to speak. - Lorica

  12. - As Dolly Pardon once said…”It costs a hell of a lot to look this slutty”….

    - For six long years the driveby legacy press has been wagging a war on the Bush administration, and its been a very costly proposition, attested to by the lower and lower circulations of most of the polito-rags involved in the partisan campaign.

    - At some point the marketplace and stock holders are going to pull the plug and say enough is enough. In the case of “Scare America”, they’ll simply run out of childrens camps to financially raid, and Soros can only write just so many checks.

    - All one has to do is look at the respective war chests of the DNC versus the RNC to get a feel for where things stand. Its so bad that insiders say that Hellery has decided to go off on her own fund raising path, partly because of a lack of Democratic money, and partly because shes not sure the left really will support her run. Recent loud speeches on Iraq suggests shes trying to move away from her previous “hawkishness” to underline her liberal bonifides.

    - Dean continues to hang on by his fingernails, hoping the DNC board doesn’t come to see the truth. Its one thing to arose a temporary flash of partisan zeal, and play sea of green, but youthful enthusiam has a tendency to peter out when up against older persistant and determined minds.

Comment by Big Bang Hunter @ 4/26/2006 - 10:22 pm

  13. Howard Dean is a joke.

    RRRRRRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRR

    Comment by G-Monster @ 4/28/2006 - 12:26 pm

  14. Dean was put in power to find new sources to raise money. Talk about “complete and utter failure”. He won’t see another term as the head of the DNC. Once he gets fired, I have to wonder if he won’t go completely psychotic, he is already so close. =)) - Lorica
