Via the AP:
SEATTLE – The man accused in last week’s shooting rampage at the Jewish Federation office that left one woman dead was charged Wednesday with nine felony counts, including violation of the state’s hate-crime law.
Naveed Afzal Haq is charged with aggravated first-degree murder in the death of Pamela Waechter, 58, director of the Jewish charity’s annual fundraising campaign. Five other women were wounded.
Prosecutors have 30 days to decide whether to seek the death penalty.
“Make no mistake, this was a hate crime,” King County Prosecutor Norm Maleng told a news conference. “The attack on these women was an attack on the Jewish community, not only in Seattle but throughout our nation and the world.”
The gunman broke into the charity’s building on Friday. According to court documents, Haq talked to 911 operators from the office, identified himself by name and said: “This is a hostage situation and I want these Jews to get out.”
He later added: “These are Jews and I’m tired of getting pushed around and our people getting pushed around by the situation in the Middle East.”
I hope prosecutors decide to seek the death penalty.
Jihad Watch notes a factoid that AP reporter Gene Johnson (deliberately?) left out of his article:
In this AP story on Naveed Haq, “Man charged in Seattle shooting rampage” (thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist), Gene Johnson of AP leaves out Haq’s declaration, “I’m a Muslim American, I’m angry with Israel.” He does quote, however, Haq’s statement, “These are Jews and I’m tired of getting pushed around and our people getting pushed around by the situation in the Middle East.”
This omission makes his grievance seem purely political — one that any self-respecting Leftist would share. This is compounded by the fact that Johnson also neglects to mention that Haq is Pakistani, thereby leading the reader to the impression that when he says “our people,” he must be Palestinian or Lebanese. After all, he couldn’t possibly mean “Muslim people,” could he? Everyone knows Islam is a religion of peace!
Of course, it’s not ok to stigmatize Islamofascists, but it is apparently ok to stigmatize white people, Christians, men, Republican war supporters, etc …

Another thing the lame stream media ain’t saying is
that HE AND SOME OF HIS FAMILY MEMBERS WORK IN A NUCLEAR WASTER PLANT, not one outlet I know of has mentioned this little tidbit.
As heinous as this cretin’s crimes are, I don’t want to see him charged with a “hate crime” even though hatred was undoubtedly the main reason for the crime. That still reeks of Orwellian “Thought Crime” for me to ever be comfortable with it. Murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, terrorism, all those are definitely illegal regardless of the motivation. And let’s be honest, isn’t murder or attempted murder usually indicative of the fact you hate the person? Don’t know of too many people I’d hunt down and shoot because of my deep love and respect.
Severian couldn’t agree with you more about “Hate Crimes” hate is a thought and you are soooo right about being Orwellian. With that said we are talking about the left coast I was born and raised in the Seattle area lived there until 1980. With the influx of people from California in the late 70′s early 80′s the political attitude started to change leaning to the left and now Seattle is running neck and neck with San Francisco in left wing whacko ideas. I will be surprised if they pursue or charge the perp with the death penalty.
Could we expect anything else from al-AP? Or the rest of the MSM for that matter? They have entered into a kind of Hitler-Stalin pact with Islamofascism. Get rid of Bush and American democracy is their common goal.
Of course, in any showdown between the MSM and Islamofascism my money is on the guys with the beards and bombs shouting “Allah akhbar!” The MSM, for all their inhumanity and brutality, are a remarkably dense lot. They really believe that they are the most intelligent, righteous, compassionate, and just plain perfect individuals that the whole of human history has painfully struggled to produce. What they think is dispassionate sophistication is really a mixture of arrogance, ignorance and laziness. Always a dangerous combination.
And pride always goes before a fall.
What they think is dispassionate sophistication is really a mixture of arrogance, ignorance and laziness. Always a dangerous combination.
Don’t forget nihilism…that makes it even worse than dangerous, it makes it almost apocalyptic.
