Classified info has once again been leaked to the NYT

And the Pentagon wants to know the who, what, when, where and why:

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon is looking into how classified information indicating Iraq is moving closer to chaos wound up on the front page of Wednesday’s New York Times, and is not ruling out an investigation that could lead to criminal charges.

A spokesman for U.S. Central Command, which has responsibility for operations in Iraq, confirmed to FOX News that a chart published in The Times is a real reflection of the thinking of military intelligence on the situation in Iraq as of Oct. 18, adding that an effort is underway to find out who leaked the chart and if the breach of operational security constitutes a crime.

The published report includes a classified one-page slide show from an Oct. 18 military briefing. The slide show is titled: “Iraq: Indications and Warnings of Civil Conflict” and shows spiraling violence in Iraq and a worsening position for American efforts.

Yet another shameless leak by an ‘anonymous source’ in DC in an attempt to influence the election. It happened in 2004 and now it’s happening again. Let’s hope the leakers are caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

      Of course. The problem here is not that Iraq is sliding into chaos, it’s that people are being told the truth about what’s going on. Obviously the right thing to do is investigate the newspaper and ignore the real problem, which is the disaster that is Iraq. Bravo as usual, Bush administration.

    2. - Dave – If you don’t think newspapers constantly leaking secret documents is a problem you must be immature to the extreme. Will there ever come a time when you on the Left decide to fight on the side of your country on the WOT, or is your position so weak and indefensible, you simply cannot allow Bush a single success, even if it means defeat for your own countrymen. You and your party are not serious.

      - Personally I would hate, absolutely hate, being a member of a party our enemies were trying to help get elected. That right there is a damning situation. Must be a bitch for you in having to live with that.

      - Bang **==

    3. Dave says:

      Hey Bang, why should you care about the NYT releasing sensitive stuff when the Bush Admin can do it all by itself — threw a bunch of stuff out on how to make a nuclear weapon for all to see, a nice breach of national security. Yeah, you guys are the tops.

    4. Baklava says:

      Dave, do you know how many people work in the executive branch of the government?

      Do you know that the stuff was taken down?

    5. - Dave, now you’re adding ignorance to immaturity. A typical Lefturd dodge, and a stupidly transparent one at that. In case you were absent for that Government class, among the Presidents CONSTITUTIONAL powers, is the control, and disemination of secrets and classification. but then you SecProggs hate the Constitution anyway, so whats the surprise.

      - I don’t remember the NY Trash being elected to a damn thing, much less given the power to subvert the Operations of the administration and the president.

      - What it comes down to, is you’ll sit and actually praise sidition and treason against your own country, your party is so desperate to get back in office. What a pack of backstabbing losers.

    6. Jim M says:

      Those documents were captured in Iraq could it be that Saddam was trying to build a nuclear weapon? Can you say WMD?
      :d

      If the Bush administrations policies are so wrong why is the unemployment rate at 4.4% lower that the whole Clinton administrations term?
      :-?

      While we are on policies how about the Dimwitocrats telling Bush to have one on one talks with North Korea and the way Bush was handling North Korea was wrong. Once again the peace at any price liberals were wrong.
      =))

    7. Jim Geraghty:
      “I think the Times editors are counting on this being spun as a “Boy, did Bush screw up” meme; the problem is, to do it, they have to knock down the “there was no threat in Iraq” meme, once and for all. Because obviously, Saddam could have sold this information to anybody, any other state, or any well-funded terrorist group that had publicly pledged to kill millions of Americans and had expressed interest in nuclear arms. You know, like, oh… al-Qaeda.”

      - Some more of the Liberal drive-by press stepping on it’s own crank….

      - Read the rest here at Malkins….

      “In case you were absent for that Government class, among the Presidents CONSTITUTIONAL powers, is the control, and disemination of secrets and classification.”

      Yes. Like plans on HOW TO BUILD A BOMB?? Brilliant stuff. Bravo. And yes, Saddam was trying to build a bomb, back in the 1980s and 1990s. We knew that already. Kind of why we sent in inspectors, all that stuff. Find another thin reed to cling to. Heckuva job.

    9. - Heres some more, as we watch the “Bush lied, he wasn’t a threat” meme die once and for all….

      - Bang **==

    10. Dave says:

      You idiots. Not that Saddam wasn’t a threat. He was certainly dangerous. That we shouldn’t have invaded the country.

      But instead of relying on the expertise of people in the intelligence community, they decided to broadcast this stuff to the blogosphere. Greaaat. As if any of you (or me, or any liberal bloggers, or any layman) is qualified on the level to interpret this stuff. But hell, whatever gets the votes. Nice work, dummies.
