WOW talk about total mis-information. Why is it Dems always have only negative to talk about. Who are they to decide to take life so that they might live. Like I said before, Embryonic Stem Cell Research is just abit to close to necromancy for my tastes. Also these people always want to confuse the issue by calling Stem Cell Research. There is a difference. Why is it that Libs have to hid who they are on ever subject?? This ad is a load of garbage, the Libs are pulling the wool over the eyes of the people of Missouri, but I don’t think that the people of Missouri are all that dumb and I am hoping this stirs the people of Missouri to vote for Jim Talent. – Lorica
Shameless…
I’m assuming we’ll soon by hearing calls for bans on IVF from you? That kills more “lives” than Embryonic Stem Cell Resarch has.
And Lorica, why are you supporting someone who on the Senate floor last Friday chose to withdraw his name as cosponsor of an anticloning bill that would outlaw a promising form of embryonic stem-cell research?
Precisely for that reason tom. Because we are heartless and your source of info is flawless…
Do you know why he withdrew his name Tom?? Perhaps there was too much pork barrel spending attached to that bill. Perhaps he just doesn’t want to be apart of this discussion anymore. Perhaps you should stop using stuff in an accusatorial manner until you actually know why someone did what they did. Perhaps he decided that this is a states rights issue?? Perhaps he is suddenly for cloning and Embryonic Stem Cell Research?? But that still doesn’t make this commercial right. And it doesn’t change my opinion that ESC research is just a little to close to necromancy than it is science. – Lorica
Personally, I’ve been against in vitro since it’s inception. The idea of producing multiple embryos and choosing which get to live has always stuck in my craw. So yes, I’d be in support of banning that as well. What of those who can’t conceive? Gosh, life can just suck sometimes, can’t it? Your “right” to get pregnant doesn’t trump another’s right to live. The same goes for you “right” to live disease free. Also, if you’re referring to the Missouri amendment 2, it has been discussed quite a bit here as being a horrible move.
It may not be important to anyone on the Left; but the only stem-cell research currently demonstrating any hope whatsoever for cures involves adult stem cells. There are virtually no research programs using embryonic stem cells going on, precisely because the scientific evidence is against it ever producing any positive results!
Why do scientists want do conduct embryonic stem cell reasearch at all? MONEY MONEY MONEY
Why do Democrats promote embryonic stem cell research? It is an highly emotional issue and they are using it to gain votes and regain their lost power in Washington!
While I have no respect for anyone at Hot Air except Ian, I am grateful for their video of this disgusting Democrat Party commercial!
This political ad is distorted and NOBODY has proved embryonic stem cells has helped cure anything and NOBODY will talk about the tumors found in its use.
This is unbelievable, but the dems will stoop at NOTHNG TO GET BACK IN….. even lie to ill people.
Ok, what I do not get in this whole argument for Embryonic Stem Cell research, is that it has shown absolutely NOTHING in usefulness / results (other than growing tumors) while Adult Stem Cell research has shown tremendous progress and results….
And yet it is not about pushing for continued funding, increase in funding or exapanding on Adult Stem Cells, it is all about the “THORY” that Embryonic Stemm Cells will work.
So instead of pushing as hard as you can for Adult Stem Cell, and doing everything you possibly can to advance this, to let it become a word on every tongue and everyone to know about it, so that it can be funded and researched like never before…..it is as if Embryonic is more important in other peoples eyes because of the THEORY of what it can do, while ignoring the other side of the coin, Adult Stemm Cells, and what it is actually doing.
In all this debate, it should come down to what is working and what isn’t first of all.
Second, Ebryonic has not been outlawed as so many seem to hyper-ventilate about. The Federal Governemnt has just staed it doesn’t believe it should be funding it. There is a big difference, and I don’t think they are wrong.
Take it from a betting point, would you keep putting your money on a horse that continues to lose, that hasn’t show any progress in winning, but the trainer keeps telling you of what may come to be?
How about taking it from a stock market point of view, would you keep sinking money, or even start to sink money into something that has not shown improvement, keeps having set backs and failures, but the company keeps saying that it will improve, and it will pay big dividends? Would you want proof first?
I sure the hell would, and what people want ‘invested’ in Embryonic Stemm Cell research, I don’t think is a good investment for MY tax dollars.
So, if you as a private citizen would not invest in something like this, and other private sector do not find it a good idea to invest in it, why do you think the Federal Government should?
Sanity: I am sorry to disagree, because you make many fine points; but it is all about the money as far as the scientists are concerned, about power as far as the Democrats are concerned and for those looking for a cure they are asking us to fund every far out, looney tunes thing imaginable, which I can understand, while finding it incredibly selfish at the same time!
Exactly, it is about the money.
For the Scientists, I am sure they want more for Embryonic research, but then you have to ask, if the private sector is not willing to invest, why should the Federdal Government?
As for the Democrats, perhaps you could expand on your point a bit more. I am not quite sure what you mean that Embryonic is about Power for them…..
And those looking for a cure, I can fully understand that they will reach for anything and everything for hope. I do not fault them for that….BUT, when it is Adult Stem Cell research that is providing that hope and not Embryonic, why would they throw their hope to something that as of yet, is hopeless?
I had not seen this or heard about this but it is completely despicable!!!!!!!!! I feel sick! This is almost too much so you’ve got to wonder if it’ll backfire. Missourians have to be smart enough to know when they are being manipulated. I just read that a new poll has the numbers 49% for the amendment and 43% against. Those are huge shifts in the numbers.
Sanity: Yes, my comments about the Democrats, Embryonic Stem-Cell Research and Power for the Dem’s lacked any details.
What I meant was that they are pushing the false hopes of stem cell research/cures and they promote the idea that anyone opposing them (Republicans) do not care about sick people; and they do it all to get the votes of those buying their lies and those votes translate into political power. In other words, most Democrats know Embryonic Stem-Cell Research is probably fruitless, but they will say it promises cures if enough people vote for them on that issue and it helps them get back their power.
In California the Democrats, via our tax dollars are funding Embryonic Stem-Cell research within the state, knowing it is probably wasted money. All for political purposes, not because they care about the people wanting a cure for their own diseases.
If there was any promise for a single cure, then there would be private funding of this research. There ain’t a single pharma company willing to put a single penny of their own money into ESC research, so why should we the taxpayer. – Lorica
