Ambassador Bolton has once again displayed the strength not often seen in the halls of the UN:
Bolton was furious over the adoption by the General Assembly of a resolution which said the assembly regretted the deaths of 19 civilians in an attack by the Israeli military in the town of Beit Hanoun last week.
Despite the resolution being significantly watered down at the behest of the United States, and being passing by 156 votes to seven, Bolton launched a blistering attack on the UN, and many of its members.
“Many of the sponsors of that resolution are notorious abusers of human rights themselves, and were seeking to deflect criticism of their own policies,” he said.
“This type of resolution serves only to exacerbate tensions by serving the interests of elements hostile to Israel’s inalienable and recognized right to exist.”
“This deepens suspicions about the United Nations that will lead many to conclude that the organization is incapable of playing a helpful role in the region,” Bolton continued.
“In a larger sense, the United Nations must confront a more significant question, that of its relevance and utility in confronting the challenges of the 21st century. We believe that the United Nations is ill served when its members seek to transform the organization into a forum that is a little more than a self-serving and a polemical attack against Israel or the United States,” he said.
“The Human Rights Council has quickly fallen into the same trap and de-legitimized itself by focusing attention exclusively on Israel. Meanwhile, it has failed to address real human rights abuses in Burma, Darfur, the DPRK, and other countries,” Bolton charged.
“The problem of anti-Israel bias is not unique to the Human Rights Council. It is endemic to the culture of the United Nations. It is a decades-old, systematic problem that transcends the whole panoply of the UN organizations and agencies,” he continued.
Modern day liberals here at home and abroad are not only embarassed by our staunch suport of Israel, but also by US projections of strength because they’d rather wallow in the morass that is moral relativism than believe that there is a difference between right and wrong and that there are, unfortunately, all too few countries who are willing to take a stand against the wrong. This is precisely the reason we need Bolton at the UN – because he’s willing to take that stand – and precisely the reason liberals reject him.

Sounded pretty darn right and rational to me, but then, I think the UN’s plant in NYC could be put to much better use. Say, for example, the future site of the Giuliani Presidential Library.
I love this guy. He’s straightforward and unafraid of the pouting and foot stomping by the children known as the world’s liberal representatives. We need more like him.
I agree with Marshall.
Has anyone heard from the dems why they don’t want Bolton at the un and who they would like to see.
I’m sure it would be some little panty waist.
As yall can see I’m not in a good mood today, sorry.
Get that crumbling-won’t pass the fire-code, hotel full of anti-Americans out of the Great City and Country of my birth! (My humble opinion, of course).
Two questions I ask myself time and again are the following:
Why do they always criticize Israel for defending itself from terrorists but they never condemn the terrorists for attacking Israel?
Why isn’t the UN condemning the way in which most of these terrorist organizations (including Iran, the Palestinian Authority, and groups like Hezbollah and Hamas) are violating the rights of children by teaching them to become suicide bombers and martyrs?
Interesteing video on this can be found at Joe Gehr’s Terrorist’s Nightmare blog.
Samantha asked, “Why do they always criticize Israel for defending itself from terrorists but they never condemn the terrorists for attacking Israel?”
Because they don’t recognize Israel’s right to exist.
Q2: “Why isn’t the UN condemning the way in which most of these terrorist organizations (including Iran, the Palestinian Authority, and groups like Hezbollah and Hamas) are violating the rights of children by teaching them to become suicide bombers and martyrs?”
Because the ends justify the means towards wiping Israel off the face of the map…
Unfortunately, many Americans/Democrats/liberals believe the anti-Israel rhetoric because of the drive-by legacy press and it is in Israel and Jewish people’s interests to start a facts and ideas war against the drive-by legacy press and inform voters of the factual errors and bias in reporting.
Everyday that the drive-by legacy press is countered with vivid examples is a good day for America. They are lazy, negligent, and fail to due any more due diligence than simply repeating Democrat talking points. They don’t learn economics, science, history, and fail to do simple reading comprehension with respect to legislation.
Sure we can find some examples where stories are correct. But the majority are actually laced with false premises, misinformation and bias. And they continue on and get worse…
No wonder the Dems are so dead-set against confirming Bolton. He is (1) unashamedly pro-American (2) not afraid to point out hypocrisy at the UN, and (3) pushing the UN to stop the rampant corruption.
Three very very bad values….just ask Harry Reid or John Kerry.
Thank you Baklava. I think you are absolutely right.
But if we let this continue…shame on us!
