Monday Night Videos: Cheesy 80s Edition

Ok, so I’m not feeling 100% tonight, have taken the non-drowsy version of Sudafed 3 times today, and was loopy enough to surf YouTube this evening for some funny 80s videos (yes, I know – there are many), because I’m not up to discussing politics. I came across this one, a song done by Bonnie Tyler which was on the soundtrack to the 80s classic movie Footloose. It’s called “Holding Out for a Hero.”

I’ve seen the movie a million times, but I swear I’m trying to remember where this song was played in the movie. I’m thinking it was the tractor racing scene, but I’m not 100% sure. Anyone wanna help out?

A few things about this vid:

1) The “hero” in the video is wearing white, and riding a white stallion. I’m sure this is because the lyrics to the song mention a “white knight upon a fiery steed” (cheeeesy goodness!), but personally, had I written this song – and directed the vid, I would have somehow incorporated into both that the dude was wearing black and racing to the rescue on a beautiful black stallion. Why? Because muscular guys dressed in all black are all that. Dressed in all white? Not so much. Exception, of course, for cute sailors.

2) Ms. Tyler is obviously surrounded by bad guys (dressed in black!), and she’s on her knees in front of a burning house. But when the ‘hero’ arrives, she’s still on her knees and through the end of the vid, she’s just looking up at him in the same position. What the hell? Get up, woman!

3) Have you ever seen glow-in-the-dark lassoes? You will, if you watch the vid …
