RIP, Patricia Buckley

Posted by: Sister Toldjah on April 16, 2007 at 10:26 am

Patricia Taylor Buckley, wife of conservative icon William F. Buckley, Jr., passed away yesterday after a long illness.

Bob Leibowitz wrote a moving tribute to who he calls the “den mother” of the conservative movement here. Sounds like a remarkable lady.

Women’s Wear Daily has a nice write-up about Mrs. Buckley, too.

Thoughts and prayers are with the Buckley family at this time.

Update: Captain Ed remembers Mrs. Buckley, and also passes along a note about The Anchoress, who is battling a chronic illness right now. My thoughts and prayers are with her as well.

How long do you think it will be before the vile moonbats, er… I mean caring compassionate liberals will be out to say mean things about her?

I’m one of those vile moonbats, and I’ve admired Pat Buckley since the 70’s, when, as a young reporter for Women’s Wear Daily, I covered her at various charitable events. She was always gracious, ever funny and tartly quotable. Humanity trumps ideology every time. This seems to have gotten lost somehow in these times of vitriol and intolerance. Rest in peace, Mrs. Buckley.
