Via the AP:

LAS VEGAS - A backpack exploded in a parking garage attached to a Las Vegas hotel early Monday, killing a man who had picked it up and injuring another person, authorities said.

The man had removed the backpack from atop his car when it exploded shortly after 4 a.m. on the second floor of a parking behind the Luxor hotel-casino, said Officer Bill Cassell, a police spokesman.

The second person was taken to an area hospital.

Aerial video showed no apparent damage to the parking structure, where entrances were blocked while police, firefighters and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents investigated. No further information was immediately available.

After 9-11, I began to wonder if we’d see the sort of suicide attacks we routinely hear about in Israel, where Palestinian terrorists put explosives in their backpacks and kill people in crowded restaurants, buses, etc. - the kind of backpack attacks that happened in London on 7/7/05, which killed over 50 people. I used to actually get nervous if I saw a Muslim walk into a restaurant I was eating in with a backpack.

I hope that the incident in Vegas is isolated and not part of a coordinated plan for future attacks of this nature.

Michelle Malkin is following this developing story.

Update: Allah’s been following this story and has more info - looks like the victim was the only target. This is being viewed by authorities there as a homicide, not a terror attack.

  2. Explosion at Las Vegas Casino

Details are few at this point, but it appears a Las Vegas casino employee was killed in an explosion this morning.

  1. You know that unless “it’s a coordinated Islamokazi attack” can’t be covered up, both DHS and the presstitutes will say that the Vegas backpack explosion is an “isolated mob hit” whether or not it was either isolated or a mob hit.

  2. Sister, thanks for avoiding any Schlussel-like immediate conclusionary jumps (Shooting at VT? Gotta be an Arab Muslim! He’s Korean, not Arab? Gotta be a Korean Muslim! Not a Muslim? Then he’s gotta be a liberal!). Bringing _any_ kind of preconceived notion (it has to be this group, it couldn’t have been this other group) can only harm an investigation. Kudos for a neutral post.

Well, an almost neutral post…and steveegg doesn’t seem to believe it isn’t a terrorist attack anyway.

  4. jeff, my post WAS neutral. I didn’t make any accusations - just gave some general thoughts on what hearing about a backpack explosion made me think of. And what it made a lot of other people think of, especially in a post 9-11 world. That is not a crime nor is there anything wrong with it. It’s kind of like the left hearing about a black church being burned, and wondering if it was racially motivated.

I don’t write my posts here to please the left. And if there’s anyone reading this blog from the left who doesn’t appreciate my honesty in writing what I think, there are plenty of other blogs you can visit and ‘monitor’ for little slip ups you can use against them.

  5. ….when I first heard about this explosion, my immediate thought was, “bush league” (no pun intended). Those of us who know Vega$ know that casino parking lots *all* have extensive surveillance cameras 24/7. I’ll be surprised if the LVPD doesn’t solve this one! :>

  6. Sounds like a CSI episode, doesn’t it?

But seriously, “if you see something, say something.”

Report unattended packages to the authorities, and do NOT attempt to investigate them yourself.

Funny thing. When I was flying to FLA a couple of weeks ago, I was sitting in the airport and noticed a small, plain, cardboard box sitting on top of the garbage can unattended. I told the lady behind the counter that I didn’t want to be “one of those people”, but I thought that looked very suspicious. She just smiled walked over the box, picked it up, LOOKED IN IT, and then threw it out.

That’s high tech security at work!

  8. It also sounds like the bomber blew himself up by accident. It seems weird that this guy grabbed a backpack off the top of his vehicle and it went off. He was probably the one that put it there, and then BOOM!!

  9. Interesting that this took place in Sin City, outside a casino. It suggests that the bombing was motivated by some sort of anti-vice agenda. I wonder if this is affiliated with the “Army of God” (that Christian extremist group that sponsored the Birmingham terrorist attack).

  10. My first thoughts were (one) as Tango stated, Vegas security cams are E.V.E.R.Y. W.H.E.R.E.! and (two) reminded me of the moron at the football stadium who blew his own dumb ass up. At least he got the order right, unlike the VT nimrod!

For the Booger-Eating Liberals who can’t make the connection of what to look for in the majority of likely terrorist suspects and their soft targets, maybe a job at checkpoint where these jerks operate daily could shed some kind of light into your dark corner.

  11. Sister, your post was neutral, don’t worry about leftoids, they are our little site pests who just won’t go away, kinda like fleas, not even a flea bomb gets rid of em.
I tend to worry about cells already here doing something in a mall or school. But, I don’t worry about as much as I used to.
But, if a dem gets in I will be sweating bullets. Most of our surviellance will be gone, can’t violate ANYONE’S rights, don’t ya know. That’s when we should be VERY AFRAID.[-x

Goodness, there are checkpoints in this country at which terrorists try to infiltrate on a daily basis? Who knew? The arrest figures certainly don’t suggest that.

Most terrorist acts in this country are committed by Christian rightists, not Islamics. See McVeigh, Rudolph, Krar, etc.

rea, does this brand of blindness also mean you are unclear about the entire border thingy between our neighboring countries, the jobs of the US Coast Guard, The Port Security functions, et al? But you are right about the lag in arrest figures …………or were you referring to the border guards who shot the drug runner during one of his walkabouts. Perhaps not enough guards were arrested, eh.

As apologists *standards* for the Islamic cult go, this naturally must be a *Christian rightist* (whatever that’s supposed to be) issue here at home, that should be the focus. First thing a magician learns is how to create deception. Islamopithence from the 7th century operate largely undetected on that premise alone…………still do.

In keeping with your apparent equality standard, it seems clear you’d pay no attention to them either.
