Gonzales and the fired attorneys “scandal”

I’m having a hard time keeping up with the developing news about how Attorney General Alberto Gonzales supposedly ‘lied’ to Congress, but Captain Ed and John Hinderaker try to sort through it all. Make sure you read what they have to say before falling in line with any of the media’s conclusions.

  1. Senate Democrats are going after a possible lie over something pretty obscure: whether White House lawyers disagreed with Justice Department lawyers over a terrorist surveillance program. They’re not accusing Gonzales of lying to cover up a crime but over a legal disagreement. All they have to do is go after him for being a bumbling idiot. Instead the Democrats waste their (and our) time over something so inside baseball.

  2. Karl says:

any accusations about Gonzalez committing perjury are based on the FBI director’s testimony.

Since he did not witness the supposed conversation that Gonzalez denies, it makes his entire testminoy hearsay, and inadmissable.

It’s funny that the Congress loves to act like a court, accusing people of perjury, citing them for contempt and compelling testimony, but they wont even follow the most base rules of evidence.
