Reader picture submissions

Posted by: Sister Toldjah on November 21, 2007 at 10:02 pm

A few weeks ago, shortly after my trip to the mountains, I asked readers to send me pictures of what the scenery looked like where they were. Without further ado, here they are. Please note that the only editing I did with these pictures was to size them down to fit in this post. Thanks to all who contributed :)

From steveegg – photos of the Wisconsin Kettle Moraine northern area:

From Patrick O’Hannigan – photos of Cary, NC:

Bond Lake

Leslie – photos from NYC:

Steve Skubinna – photos of Sasebo, Japan:

Steve Skubbina – photos of Tokyo Bay – Mt. Fuji:

Yours truly – photos of the sky in the morning and at dusk in Charlotte, NC:

Morning

Dusk

This one was of how the sky looked right before a storm a few weeks ago:

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve taken some pictures of the fall foliage here in Charlotte. You can view them here.

Happy viewing! :)

Thur AM Update/Correction: The picture I had of dusk was not the correct one – it was a duplicate of my morning pic. So I’ve changed it to reflect the right picture. I also had a duplicate up of Patrick’s picture of Bond Lake, and changed that to add his other one. And the last two Steve Skubbina pictures are actually of Tokyo Bay – Mt. Fuji, not Sasebo.

This is what happens when you try to do 20 things at once! ;)

Hey, thanks, ST, for making me part of your blog!

Need to point out that the last two pics were taken in Tokyo Bay this week. That’s Fuji, not visible from Sasebo.

The rest of you guys, neat photos. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Leslie says:

    ST,

Thanks for putting all those great photos up–including mine!

    Steve–

I have a question about your Japan pix: are those cherry blossoms I see?

  3. 2Hotel9 says:

Sis, got a couple around 12:30 here at the sister and brotherinlaw’s place in Takoma Park. I’ll try putting them here. OK, tried and can’t. Can I email them to you?

  4. forest hunter says:

Steve! Where are you hiding? Those pics are just north of me!

  5. forest hunter says:

    Skubinna that is…… :d

  6. steveegg says:

Thank you, ST, for putting up some great pics (as well as mine). Thank you, everybody that sent ST pics.

  7. PCD says:

    Steveegg,

Where is that road? It looks so familiar, but not knowing is driving me nuts.

I got to get a few pictures of Door County for ST. I think one of Al Johnson’s Sweedish Restaurant with the grass roof with the goats on top would really set some people off.

  8. Steve Skubinna says:

Leslie, yes those are cherry blossoms, shot in spring. I sent them along because they look so much better than the present foliage here.

Forest, we anchored off Yokosuka last Friday and loaded via lighter. We never get to go pierside – that’s life aboard an ammo ship! We’re back in Sasebo for now – at least we didn’t get kicked in the teeth by our good friends the PRC.

  9. forest hunter says:

By way of one photo you submitted, it seemed pretty obvious that you had some close personal friends aboard ship……thanks for the bay photos.

heh……Steve’s cheating mom (old photos)…..aint Spring grand here!

Speaking of cheating…….., this very close to where I live.

  10. Steve Skubinna says:

Okay, forest, I have some shots of the big bonsai trees here (yes, really!) that I’ll send along to ST tomorrow am when I can get ashore to the WiFi.

Also have some interesting (to me anyway) random shots I took in town the past couple weeks of typical Japanese stuff like weird tee shirt slogans and so on, which I didn’t send. Because if you don’t already know how weird the Japanese can be, the photos are just not gonna make sense. Sasebo had their Yosakoi Festival a few weeks back too, although my dinky little digital camera didn’t deal with the frantic movement of the street dancers.

  11. forest hunter says:

Well, at least you got da skills Steve. I’m still trying to get my cave axe sharpened.

Weird English and I saw a Gaijin (foreigner) walking around a few months back with a t-shirt that translates into stoopud foreigner. #-o

Steve why don’t you email me, tried your email but no go. ST has my edress.

  12. steveegg says:

PCD, it was a couple years ago, but if memory serves, it was the northern part of the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive.

  13. Steve Skubinna says:

Okay, forest, I’ll ask our lovely and talented hostess to forward my address along. I spoof it on web sites because my old hotmail account eventually got buried under spam.

My favorite tee shirt slogan so far: “Glass harps resound joy is put.”

And who can argue with that? The staff at a hobby shop I frequent in Sasebo always give me a big greeting when I come in. I tell my friends that I’m their number one customer – at least that’s what I think “baka gaijin” means. Then I watch the struggle on their faces as they try to decide a) if I am joking, and b) if they should tell me what that really means.

On the other hand, I am now officially a regular at the Starbuck’s in town. Often when I enter the barista will ask me “douber short mo-ka?”

  14. PCD says:

Steve, Baka Gaijin is “Crazy (or Idiot) White man”. They must be wondering if you are if you call yourself that.

  15. Steve Skubinna says:

Oh man, PCD, you blew it! Now everybody know!

  16. forest hunter says:

Heh……that’s the spirit Steve and thanks ST for the extree effort.

Who’s still havin’ a go at the turkey?

  17. PCD says:

16, Forrest, didn’t have one, and won’t have one this year. When the step-daughter comes down from Green Bay, we’re having home made gyros!

    15. “Ohio Gazymus!” I know that’s not how it is spelled, but I can’t read or write in Japanese.

    I “Ichiban” Packer Fan.

  18. Steve Skubinna says:

Hey forest, you can try my official e-mail:

    stephen.a.skubinna.civ@msc.navy.mil

    And domo arigato (Mister Roboto!).

  19. forest hunter says:

PCD: Ohayo Gozaimas and neither can I, for the most part. Ichiban Packa fan desho!

    Gyro’s! Nummers!

  20. Steve, I have emailed you forest’s email as well … sorry I’m so behind on email :">

  21. PCD says:

I retreat into my Packer dojo. Domo arimas.

  22. forest hunter says:

PCD make forest smile…..Domo arimas will become my new san cu (thank you/3 9) but only here, as arimus has a different meaning. :d
