Tonight’s NCAA tourney action (UPDATE: DAVIDSON WINS!!)

Davidson WildcatsThere are four games total this evening, but the one North Carolinians will be most keen on watching is the 7:10 game, which sees the #10 Davidson Wildcats take on #3 Wisconsin. Davidson is a North Carolina town that is about a 20-25 minute drive from Charlotte. Needless to say, the town is going absolutely wild (more here) about the ‘cats’ making it to the Sweet 16. The population in Davidson? Under 10,000. A blip on the map, but filled with people with crazy about their college basketball team.

I didn’t have the Wildcats making it past the first round, but who cares when the team is a hometown fave?

The Wildcat everyone’s talking about these days is Davidson sophomore Stephen Curry, who is listed as 6’2 in his profile, but I think that’s stretching it a couple of inches ;) Stephen is the son of former NBA basketball star Dell Curry, who was the irreplaceable “sixth man” for the then-Charlotte Hornets.

Stephen scored 70 points combined in Davidson’s first two NCAA tourney games. Needless to say, he’ll be the man the Badgers will be gunning for when both teams take to the court tonight. It’s gonna be a tough game, but let’s hope their Cinderella run doesn’t end tonight.

Oh, and don’t worry, steve. I won’t hold the fact that you are rooting for Wisconsin against you :p

Update – 9:24 PM: Solid, solid playing from the ‘cats, who won the game 73-56. Curry finished with 33 points. Davidson will go on to play the winner of tonight’s Kansas/Villanova game.
