Breaking: WH to announce federal aid for auto industry

.!.

GM & Chrysler will get, with stipulations, another opportunity to get it right, while the American taxpayer gets saddled with the bill.

Bush said recently that he had to abandon free-market principles in order to save the free market. It’s an odd quote, but under the circumstances, is it an accurate one? Would the American economy have been able to sustain itself if the “Big 3″ had declared bankruptcy instead? I’d like to read your thoughts.

The President will make a brief statement on the WH’s course of action at 9 AM ET.

  1. It’s not the worst decision Bush has made in his presidency. But it’s among the top five.

I hate to have to ReWrite™ your work, but I must in this case…

GM & Chrysler will get, with unspecified, minimal stipulations, another opportunity to get it right 3 months to get nationalization of their losing business model past a “recalictrant” Senate, while the American taxpayer gets saddled with the bill.

    How about “non-binding” stipulations.

Bush has really turned into a disappointment on everything other than the war on terror, and even that has been weaker than it should have been.

Compassionate Conservatism is no conservatism at all. Meh.

The “enforcable” stipulations are on the white-collar end. The “non-binding” ones are on the UAW end.

This is a government loan. Does anyone know what the interest rate will be? The last time Chrysler took a government loan, they paid millions of dollars in interest.

  7. Trish says:

Carter did this for Chrysler, prompting Tom Paxton to write:

I am changing my name to Chrysler
I am headed down to Washington, D.C.
I will tell some power broker
    “What you did for Iacocca
Would be perfectly acceptable to me”

I am changing my name to Chrysler
I am headed for that vast receiving line
When they hand a million grand out
I’ll be standing with my hand out
    Yessir! I’ll get mine
