Friday open thread

If you’re in the Houston area, you are in my thoughts and prayers right now as Hurricane Ike prepares to make landfall. Please be safe (hopefully, you’re already in a safe area).

I see gas prices have gone way up today in light of the news about Ike. A gas station close by where I live went up about 25 cents in one day. I got it this morning on the way in at a gas station that had it for $3.68. I’m sure it’s way up at that station by now.

I’ll be back later to catch up on blogging. TGIF.

Update – 4:33 PM: Houston blogger Jason Smith is staying put and is liveblogging the hurricane. Stay safe, Jason.

  1. Mwalimu Daudi says:

Democrats’ lead in generic Congressional ballot drops to 3 points.

There are two things to remember here. The first is that “generic Republican” versus “generic Democrat” is a race between two candidates that do not exist in real life. IMO “generic” candidates are largely MSM creations. Since the MSM views Republicans as the spawn of Satan and Democrats as angels from Heaven, the fact that the Republican Party usually trails Democrats in these polls should not surprise us.

The second is that as these numbers tighten to something far less favorable to Democrats, the panic will set in. And with panic will come unhinged rage and hate.

For that reason I predict that Democrats will seek an indictment of Sarah Palin to be timed the weekend before the election. There is a precedent for this. In the final days of the 1992 Presidential campaign President Bush had caught up with Clinton in the polls. The special prosecutor who was investigating Iran-Contra and who was angling for a post as a Federal judge in a potential Clinton administration suddenly issued a last-second indictment of former Defense Secretary Cap Weinberger. The indictment gave Clinton a much-needed last second bump in the polls. About a month after the election, the indictment was dropped due to lack of evidence, but we were still stuck with Hillary’s husband.

I know this is off topic by why isn’t the US News Media reporting about the Muslim Terrorist attack in India’s capital yesterday?

Could it be that they are afraid that reporting on this would hurt Obama and help McCain?
