In light of reports of Tom Daschle’s numerous tax issues (the failure to pay them, to be exact, not to mention the lobbyist angle), the heat is intensifying on President Obama to withdraw the former Senate leader’s nomination for HHS. Leading Republican Senator Jim DeMint called for it today, and even the NYT – known propaganda rag for the Obama administration – is calling for a withdraw as well, citing Daschle’s tax issues.
Will the President continue to stand by his man and the Senate roll over and confirm Daschle with little to no questions as they did Eric Holder and Tim Geithner? Or will sanity prevail?
Stay tuned …

PM Update – 1:35 PM: CNN is reporting that Daschle has withdrawn his nomination.

Demint continues to be a quite impressive conservative. He was also impressively vocal (I heard him only on radio) and articulate in defending his vote against TARP. Would that we had many more men of stature and conviction like him!
And He’s outta there!!! Buh Bye Tommy Boy. I couldn’t be happier that you and your elitist attitude are gone. – Lorica
The president will simply appoint another elitist to the post, Lorica. Before he names anyone, you can bet the tax returns will go under a microscope first.
But you can bet that whoever he appoints will hide plenty of income in completely legal tax shelters. According to Joe Biden, that means whoever is nominated will be “unpatriotic”.
I completely dislike Tom Daschle. I am also tired of this new adminstration becoming a Senatetorial Old Boys Club. It scares me just how many Senators are in this administration. I couldn’t be happier that at least one of them has been shot down. – Lorica
You got to love all the excuses he’s making. even the media is using the same excuses for him. the main excuse is he didn’t know he had to pay a gift tax. oh my god, even the contestants on the Price is Right know you have to pay a gift tax. If he doesn’t know about something as simple as a gift tax, how in the world could he be trusted to reform health care. Also, no one seems to be pressing him on how he could “forget” to report 83k he was paid for 1 month that he claims he just “simply forgot” to report, he’s a good guy. he just suffers from amnesia from time to time when it comes to reporting large sums of income or gifts that most of us could never afford. I shutter to think what would happen to me or many of you if we made a mistake on our taxes of that magnitude, I have no doubts that we would not get the same support that Daschle has gotten.
President/Administration of change? Obama’s campaign promises are falling fast, get rid of corruption and make it harder for special interest groups and lobbyist to operate in Washington. I love how Obama sent out his spin doctor Robert Gibbs today to try and repair his image on these promises by saying “you can’t expect Obama to change how Washington works in a week and a half” This is so very true. My reply to that would be “true, but you can and have taken great steps to continue and strengthen the same ole way of doing business in Washington in a week and a half”.
Three nominees with tax problems and a stimulus package that reeks to high heaven.
Democratic dead fish are piling up on the shore so fast it’s must be an epidemic.
If this is the best that the current house, senate, administration and president can do we are all doomed
What happened to the high standards Obama promised? His selectiions have been something a lot less! I cant understand why people cannot see his direct opposite approach to his campaign of promising to change Washington. It is the good ole boys coming back from the cracks for mo’money, mo’power. Obama confessed today that he made a mistake in choosing people who had these problems and that he was personally responsible. Only two weeks in –. Lets hope he doesnt make the same misjudgments on the War on Terror — oops! I’m sorry, I think its called “The continued struggle against extremism” now
