Two different Presidents, two different reactions

Take a look at this video, which contrasts how the Marines reacted to President Bush on a visit a couple of years ago to Anbar versus how they did with Obama recently when he visited Camp Lejune to announce withdrawal plans:

Help me out with this, please. During the Obama visit, were the Marines in attendance standing at attention as a matter of military protocol or was it fairly typical for the Marines (and I suspect the rest of the armed forces) to be more relaxed and at ease under President Bush? Maybe it’s the types of events that determines the reactions? I find the contrasts in the reactions to the arrivals of both respective Presidents stunning, but maybe I’m missing something in terms of how military protocol works.
